Chapter 6: Idiot, how could I possibly cry?
That day was probably the first time, alone, seriously and leisurely strolling with Wei Chi, to put it nicely, it could be considered a date.
That day, Wei Chi's smile seemed different from any other time, not warm, nor enchanting, but simple and happy like a child, with a hint of freedom.
They came out of the playground, it was almost afternoon, the sun gradually became gentle, and a orange glow spread across the horizon, as if heaven had lost its fire.
On the main street of Ming Ze City, people surged forward in a tide, and Miao Miao deliberately walked a little behind, as if she wanted to be submerged by the crowd.
He turned around and found her gone, so he reached out and pulled her over: "Be careful, don't get lost later."
"Mm." The cat-like girl lowered her head and smiled, feeling a warmth in her heart. She thought she would definitely remember this as the first time Ou Qi held her hand, on this bustling street filled with the scent of cherry blossoms in the wind.
It wasn't even night yet, but the shops on both sides of the street had already lit up with warm lights. The thin light shone through the display windows and fell on the goods, giving off a dreamy beauty. The cat-like eyes were quickly attracted to a silver chain.
That was a cat's silhouette, next to it was half a moon, the workmanship was very exquisite, and the cat couldn't help but take a few more glances.
Cars are flowing on the road. A No. 4 bus is approaching from afar, and a cat is holding onto a child who is walking slowly towards the bus station, waving its paws to signal the bus to stop.
"Going back so soon?" Yu Wei Chai finished his last sip of Coke, looking reluctant.
"Yes, there's a surprise when you get back."
"You've already given me a big surprise." On the bus, Wei Chi gazed out at the scenery outside the window and spoke in a low voice.
The cat couldn't help but look at him and found that he was always smiling with the corners of his mouth, while his expression was quieter than ever.
"Kitty, did you know? Even though I've been wandering for so long, I've never experienced true freedom... Because when you're alone, loneliness is always much deeper than freedom."
He spoke with his head down, his voice desolate, like a lonely child.
"But today, being with you, I feel the truly free me." Wei Chi suddenly lifted her head, smiling at Miao Miao, her eyes clear and without a hint of impurity. "So even if we can't be together in the future, there won't be any regrets."
The cat looked at him dazedly, and suddenly had a melancholic illusion that Yu Wei was bidding farewell to her.
The scenery outside the car window retreated rapidly at an irretrievable speed.
Getting off the bus and almost home, Miao Ni kept asking him to close his eyes. Wei Chi cooperated and stood in the middle of the living room, hearing Miao Ni rummaging around everywhere. Then she ran over, covered his eyes, and counted down: 3...2...1...
When he opened his eyes, what he saw was a simple birthday cake, the soft candlelight gently jumping, casting their shadows on the wall.
Miao Ni tiptoed and leaned in close to his ear: "Wei Chi, happy 19th birthday."
It's actually a fantasy that has been going on for a long time, having a simple little house, a complete family, and on one's own birthday, there will be someone who remembers, prepares a cake early, and says happy birthday to oneself.
He stood still, feeling tears welling up in his eyes. He suddenly pulled the cat into his arms and held it tightly.
A burning candle, a drop of wax tears fell on the cake, making a "sizzling" sound. It must have melted somewhere.
"Are you crying?" The cat felt a warm and wet sensation on its shoulder. It awkwardly tried to push away the hand of Yu Chi.
"Don't move." His voice was low and husky, and the cat-like creature stopped in its tracks. After a long while, he loosened his grip and revealed a bright smile. "Idiot, how could I possibly cry?"
"But you obviously..." The cat's words were cut off as Yu Chi lightly pinched his nose.
"Alright silly, go eat cake!"
As soon as it was edible, the cat didn't care about anything else and turned around to rush towards the cake. While eating, she wiped a handful of cream on Wei Chi's face, calling out "You're always smearing colors on my face, now you know what's wrong!"
To avoid the revenge of the furious, the cat quickly hid in the kitchen. As a result, the two people chased each other around the house, not knowing how many circles they turned, their laughter floating in the air, drifting out of the window and spreading far, far away.
