Chapter 19: The Knowing Flower
Charlotte walked alone on the quiet street, rarely had such a peaceful atmosphere, she walked and fell into deep thought, recalling the half year of no progress, and that disappeared Duke of Windsor. Charlotte let out a heavy sigh, suddenly the sky floated with small rain, millet-sized raindrops falling on her face and arms cool and refreshing, opening her arms and tilting her head towards the sky to disperse the stagnant air in her heart, come down! The bigger the better! She began to look forward to a big storm, washing away the dull air clean!
The heavy rain did not disappoint, and soon came with strong winds. Charlotte took big strides running towards home, the rain getting heavier and heavier. Before long, the cobblestone road was flooded with water that reached her ankles. A horse carriage came speeding from behind Charlotte, and without thinking, she jumped into a garden at the entrance of a house. The family who lived there had not put up a fence around their garden, so it was easy for Charlotte to jump in. The carriage passed by, but Charlotte did not want to leave, because this garden happened to have a big tree. With the rain coming down so heavily, why not take shelter here?
The large tree formed a small protective circle, bringing Charlotte a brief sense of security in this stormy weather. This scene made Charlotte think of her father and mother again. Although she had only been in this world for two years, the love of her parents had truly integrated her into this family. She usually seemed indifferent, as if nothing mattered to her, but in fact, she had long acknowledged them as her own family. Now that her parents and sister were in such a difficult situation, thinking carefully about it also made her feel responsible. When she was kidnapped by Windsor, she learned of the hatred between Duke Windsor and the king, and the Lucas family was a powerful pawn in their competition. It was her hesitation and selfishness that allowed the king to take advantage of the Lucas family. If time could be turned back, she would have agreed to Windsor's proposal and handed over the Lucas family's treasure early on. Now thinking about all this was useless, Charlotte sighed again.
"Hey! Hey!"
"What's that noise? Is this the master of the house?" Charlotte looked around.
"Sorry, I'm just passing by and taking shelter from the rain, I'll leave soon."
"Hey! You stepped on me!"
"What?!"
Charlotte looked down in surprise at a small blue flower under her feet, its long leaves spread out on the ground, and she happened to step on one of them.
"Yes, I am the little blue flower in your eyes."
Charlotte was even more surprised, this weirdo can not only speak human language but also read minds!
"I'm not a freak, I'm Bluebird, stupid humans!"
"Bluebird? Do all the flowers here talk? How magical!"
The azalea didn't have a face, otherwise Charlotte would have seen her disdainful expression. She seemed too lazy to speak and after finishing the previous sentence, no matter how Charlotte called her, she wouldn't respond to Charlotte again. Charlotte didn't want to be hot-faced and cold-buttocked, so she curiously sized up the azalea for a while. The rain subsided a bit, and Charlotte bid farewell to her and left the garden of this house.
Because she was delayed by the rain, Charlotte hurried back home and didn't look back. Otherwise, she would have been surprised again. The chrysanthemum moved slowly after Charlotte left, and the grass swayed with its movement. In the depths of the garden, a carriage was parked. If Charlotte had seen it, she would have recognized that this was the same carriage that had squeezed her into the garden just now. The chrysanthemum stopped under the window of the carriage, and a clear, cold male voice came from inside.
"What did you see?"
The jasmine flower was very obedient in front of her master, and she immediately told him everything she had seen.
"Master, this girl is just an ordinary human being, there's nothing special about her, yet she bears a curse. How could someone put a curse on such a harmless girl?"
The owner of the peony seems very surprised
"Curse?"
"Yes, master, and it's not just an ordinary curse. This kind of curse can only be broken by killing the person who cast it. I smell the aura of the cursed spirit slowly approaching..."
"Alright, no need to say anything more."
The owner of the peony patiently blew a whistle, and a falcon emerged from the forest, opening its hard beak to pull out the peony from the ground. The peony cried out in pain as the owner took out an ordinary iron box and locked it inside, soothingly saying...
"Come home with me, beautiful Oriole, where there is fertile soil and delicious dew."
As they turned the corner to Mary's house, Charlotte saw Uncle Hans waiting at the door. She felt a warmth in her heart as she knew that Uncle Hans really liked her. Charlotte waved at him and called out.
"Uncle Hans!"
Hans saw her as soon as he turned the corner in Charlotte, and saw that her skirt was wet. Hans frowned and quickly ran over to hand Charlotte an umbrella. He didn't dare scold Charlotte loudly, but couldn't help saying something to her.
"I don't know how to get out, I didn't bring an umbrella, it's raining and you can't rush back, find a place to hide, oh no, I'm getting soaked, what if I catch a cold, hurry up, run faster and go home."
Charlotte listened to Hans' nagging and thought of her mother, who was also so particular about herself.
As they entered the yard, Mary and Aunt Becci were pacing back and forth under the eaves of the house. As soon as Uncle Hans entered the yard, he shouted at Aunt Becci.
"Becky, get Charlotte into some dry clothes, quick!"
Aunt Becky hurried into the house to get Charlotte's clothes, Mary smiled and went into the house to set the table and wait for Charlotte to finish cleaning up before they ate together.
Ever since Charlotte came to Mary's house, their situation has improved a lot. The increasing smile on Mary's face shows her satisfaction. Seeing Mary getting plumper day by day makes Charlotte happier than anyone else, making her feel that living with Mary is also helpful. Everyone sits at the dinner table, chatting about what they saw today and savoring simple yet thoughtful food. If it weren't for Charlotte's constant worry about Lydia and the others, their current life would be almost perfect.
"Charlotte, don't go work at Edward's house again."
Charlotte followed Hans' line of sight to her own hands, and she unnaturally retracted them. Charlotte still hadn't gotten used to having such ugly hands.
"Uncle Hans, my hand will be fine with a bandage, besides, the pay Edward's family gave me is really generous."
Hans gazed at Charlotte with a pained expression, cradling her hand in his large one, and exhorted.
"I know why you're humiliating yourself by working at Edward's house, it's for the mother and daughter in the palace, but you also need to take care of your own body, listen to your uncle, don't go anymore, your uncle has a good friend in the royal palace, I'll ask him to arrange a meeting for you, how about that?"
After listening to Hans' words, Charlotte pulled out her hand and said seriously,
"Uncle Hans, if you do this, then I must leave here."
Charlotte was particularly stubborn about some things, she thought that the Mary family had already been kind enough to take her in despite the danger, and if she were to put the Mary family in danger again because of her own family affairs, she would never do it, so every time Hans said so, Charlotte refused decisively.
Hans was helpless, he wanted to say that helping the mother and daughter was what he should do, but he didn't dare to say it. Even though Lucas had fallen to the ends of the earth, he still didn't dare to reveal his own secret.
Hans sighed and took Charlotte's hand again, saying,
"You can do whatever you want, I really don't know what to do with you."
