Chapter 37: Encountering a Mysterious Fortune Teller on the Road

Chapter Thirty-Seven: Encountering a Mysterious Fortune Teller on the Road

Su Yixin, on the other hand, seemed to have no sense of urgency at all, and instead became more relaxed as the college entrance exam approached. In fact, during the May 1st holiday, he took Su Yisu back home early.

Su Yi couldn't help but feel a bit depressed, while others were still going out to have fun!

Su Yi Xin seemed to see through her mind, staring at her and saying: "You don't want your brother to know you're in love, huh? Be careful or I'll tell Mom and Dad, let's see how they deal with you."

Su Yi didn't believe he would betray her and glanced at him disdainfully, muttering, "Originally, I didn't want you anyway..."

Fortunately, Su Yixin didn't hear what he said either. Seeing his own courtyard appear before his eyes, he immediately ran happily with a big smile on his face, "Home! Long time no see!"

Su Yisuo slowly followed behind, disdainfully saying a sentence, "Affected!"

Shen Xiulan emerged upon hearing the sound, just in time to see Su Yixin rushing over, as well as Su Yiru slowly trailing behind. A gentle smile spread across her face as she asked, "Why have you both returned together?"

Su Yi Xin said discontentedly: "Mom, are you not welcoming me back?"

"Yes, especially unwelcome." Su Yisuo, who had just rushed over, took over the conversation.

Shen Xiulan couldn't help but smile and said, "You guys are still the same."

Su Yisou strolled leisurely into the small courtyard, ran to see her beloved flower, and turned back to say to Shen Xiulan: "If I suddenly changed my appearance, Mother, would you still dare to recognize me?"

Shen Xiulan smiled and shook her head, neither saying she dared nor saying she didn't dare.

Su Yixin had already slipped into the living room, dropped her bag and collapsed onto the sofa, letting out a comfortable sigh, "It's still more comfortable at home."

Shen Xiulan and Su Yisou also walked into the living room. Shen Xiulan took a glance at Su Yixin and asked, "Why did you guys come back so early this time? It's only a little after four o'clock, isn't school letting out early?"

Upon hearing this, Su Yixin and Su Yisu exchanged a glance and replied in perfect sync: "The teacher was worried that we wouldn't have any cars to sit in, so she let us out of school early!"

"Really?" Shen Xiulan looked at them suspiciously.

"Okay!" Su Yisu went forward, held Shen Xiulan's hand and coquettishly said, "Mom! I'm a bit tired, I'll go up to sleep for a while, anyway it's not dinner time yet."

As expected, Shen Xiulan forgot everything when Su Yisou said that and said: "Go quickly. It's rare for you to come back, I'll go buy some vegetables and make a good meal for you. Look, Ahxin, you've become so thin.

Su Yixin pinched her own face and cried out in dissatisfaction: "Mom, I'm not thin at all! Look, look, it's all flesh!"

Su Yisu yawned and chimed in, "Mom said you're thin, so you're thin! What's your opinion?"

Shen Xiulan smiled silently and shook her head, explained a few words, then took the vegetable basket and went out the door.

Their home is quite close to the vegetable market, and it takes about ten minutes to walk there.

The market was bustling with activity, many housewives took advantage of this time to buy vegetables. Shen Xiulan carefully selected a few, until the basket was full, before stopping contentedly. After checking the time and finding it still early, she wandered around some more to see if there was anything else she needed to buy.

As she turned a corner, Shen Xiulan was about to continue walking forward when suddenly a voice from the side of the road called out to her, "Excuse me, miss, please stop."

Shen Xiulan heard the voice and subconsciously looked around, finding that she was the only one passing by, so she secretly guessed that the person calling out was referring to her, and then went to look at the person speaking on the side of the road.

That was a fortune teller, with an unfamiliar face, and his accent didn't sound like he was from around here. His short hairline had white temples, and he had a nearly one-foot-long beard, wearing a pair of large glasses, dressed in an outdated dark gray long gown, looking very strange. However, his complexion was calm, and because of those big glasses covering half of his face, it was impossible to tell whether he was happy or sad. He sat on a low stool, with his head held high and facing forward, seemingly not looking at anyone, yet giving people the feeling that all these mortals were in his eyes.

In front of him was also a low stool, probably for the convenience of customers. Next to it were his fortune-telling diagrams and various mysterious tools and books that Shen Xiulan couldn't name.

Shen Xiulan smiled casually and shook her head, about to leave when the fortune teller called out to her again, "This donor, is it that your family's business has just started and you're planning to move?"

When she heard this, Shen Xiulan's foot, which had just been lifted, was withdrawn again. She looked at the fortune teller with suspicion and thought to herself: How did he know? But after thinking about it for a moment, she felt relieved. Those in this line of work wouldn't dare to make random guesses without investigating first.

Thinking of this, Shen Xiulan wanted to walk further ahead, but the fortune teller didn't plan on giving up just yet and said: "However, your husband has just returned home, so why come out specifically to buy vegetables? This lady, we can be considered to have a predestined relationship, stay and listen to my advice."

Shen Xiulan stopped in her tracks again, and thought to herself: Ah Xian and Su Su just got back, how did he know? If it's a wild guess, it's too accurate! Thinking of this, she couldn't help but examine him up and down again. However, the fortune teller remained calm as water, sitting there motionless, not showing any signs of anxiety, as if he was certain Shen Xiulan would stop. If she hadn't heard him speak, Shen Xiulan would have suspected that he had fallen asleep.

After some thought, Shen Xiulan walked up to him, pulled over a stool and sat down, put the vegetable basket aside, and said: "Alright, I'll listen to you talk nonsense about my family."

The fortune teller shook his head slightly, a hint of regret on his face, and said: "Why be so stubborn? The affairs of the world are originally an illusion, if you're too attached, you'll lose your true nature, and in the end, it's all just empty, isn't that sad?"

Shen Xiulan furrowed her brow, looking at the fortune teller who was speaking in a mysterious and ambiguous tone, spouting nonsense. She regretted stopping to listen to his gibberish and picked up her basket, ready to leave. The fortune teller, not knowing whether he was truly blind or just wearing sunglasses to appear more profound, opened his mouth again just as Shen Xiulan was about to stand up, saying: "Sir, do not be impatient, let me slowly explain."

It's still early anyway, listening to some absurd talk and going back to chat with them might not be a bad thing either. With this in mind, Shen Xiulan sat down again.

"Sir, you have recently gained a great reputation due to an unexpected opportunity, and you also have a strong ambition to achieve great things. Am I right?"

Shen Xiulan nodded silently, thinking he might not see her, and then spoke again: "Yes."

"Our son is going to take the college entrance exam this year. At home, we are considering expanding our business and moving the factory to a bigger city. Is what I said correct?"

"Right." Shen Xiulan nodded again, secretly marveling at the kind of extraordinary person this was, who actually understood her family's affairs so well.

"The problem lies here. If you, sir, do not go out, then it's fine, and you will surely live a peaceful life with your wife, respecting each other like guests, loving each other for a lifetime. But if you go out and about, you will inevitably encounter all sorts of temptations, and can't help but look down on your wife who is no longer young and beautiful, and be infatuated with younger beauties. Please think thrice, sir."

After listening to the fortune teller's "sincere and heartfelt" speech, Shen Xiulan sneered and asked: "Is that all? If you have leisure time, why not travel around and broaden your horizons? Why must you stay here and gossip about others' family affairs?"

The fortune teller's expression changed, and he said: "It was originally because I had a predestined relationship with the donor that I gave more advice. If the donor doesn't believe it, then so be it. Why must you speak hurtful words?"

Shen Xiulan repressed the anger on her face and replied calmly, "In that case, I was too abrupt." She then picked up the vegetable basket and left.

Listening to Shen Xiulan's increasingly distant footsteps, the fortune teller finally sighed silently, "Since ancient times, many living beings have lost their way."

Shen Xiulan returned home and found Su Yixin watching TV in the living room, while Su Yisu was not around. She asked aloud, "Has Sisu not woken up yet?"

Su Yixin slightly pursed her lips and replied: "She won't get up that quickly, don't you know her yet?"

Shen Xiulan sighed and nodded: "Right, look at me, I've been confused by that fortune teller."

Su Yixin's eyes flickered with a hint of confusion as he turned his head to look at Shen Xiulan, "Fortune teller?"

"Nothing, he caught up with me on the way back and talked a lot of nonsense. I'm going to cook, remember to wake up Su later." Shen Xiulan obviously didn't want to say more, took the vegetable basket and entered the kitchen.

Su Yixin stared at her back in confusion, her eyebrows almost twisted together. Fortune teller? Where did the fortune teller come from?

Shen Xiulan was almost done with dinner when Su Yisou finally woke up slowly, stretched her waist, and walked downstairs with a lazy gait. Seeing that Su Yixin was still watching TV, she greeted him: "Su Yixin, good evening."

Su Yixin turned back to look at her helplessly and said, "Su Yisuo, are you sleep-talking or sleepwalking? It's already evening!"

Su Yi shrugged indifferently, "It's all the same." She said no more to Su Yixin and turned around to enter the kitchen.

"Mom, wow, so much delicious food!"

Shen Xiulan poked her forehead with a resigned expression, "I knew you were hungry."

Su Yisu giggled and said, "Mom's cooking is the most delicious in the world!"

"What did you say?" Just then, Su Yu's bright voice came from outside the door. Su Yi Su turned her head and saw her father's figure appearing in front of her eyes. She ran over happily, "Dad!"

"Haha......" Su Yu burst out laughing and scolded her with a glance, saying: "A girl like you, don't be so reckless in the future."

Su Yixin also came out and said with a smile: "Dad, let her calm down a bit. Unless you don't care about her at all and let her fend for herself, after a few bumps and bruises, she'll learn to be sensible."

"How can you be like this!"

Shen Xiulan brought out a dish of vegetables and placed it in Su Yisou's hands, saying: "You all just rest for a while, I'll take the dishes out!"

"Yes! Mother!" Su Yisuo responded loudly and got a white eye from Su Yixin in return.

During lunch, Shen Xiulan asked Su Yu, "How's the preparation for the move going?"

Su Yu sighed and put down his rice bowl, saying: "I didn't realize it was so difficult to get started. It's like pulling a single hair and moving the whole body. This matter still needs careful consideration."

Shen Xiulan nodded slightly and continued eating with her head down.

Su Yixin looked at Shen Xiulan with a puzzled expression, but ultimately didn't say anything.
