Chapter 23 of Part II

  Chapter 23

Back at her residence, Mousey meowed and circled around Zheng Wei's feet, as if hinting that she should rub its belly like usual. Zheng Wei ignored it, thinking she might have caught a cold - her head was dizzy, her throat slightly sore, and she felt inexplicably tired.

She rummaged through the bedside table, looking for Vitamin C tablets, which were particularly effective every time she suspected a cold. However, after turning the entire table upside down, she couldn't find any. She had clearly asked Lin Jing to buy some last week and had personally put them in the table.

Helpless, Zheng Wei dialed Lin Jing's phone number and after a while, he finally picked up. "Weiwei, is there something going on?"

She didn't bother with small talk and directly asked, "Have you seen my Vitamin C tablets? Where did I put them?"

"What's the point of taking medicine properly?" His voice was very low, Zheng Wei seemed to still hear a voice coming through the receiver, it looked like she had called at an inopportune time, he was in a meeting. So she hastily said: "Just tell me where you put it."

Lin Jing said: "The Vitamin C tablets should be in that medicine box beside the wardrobe, right?"

Zheng Wei walked to the medicine box with the phone, and indeed saw what she was looking for on top. Lin Jing continued to ask, "Have you eaten? If you're not feeling well, it's best to go see a doctor..."

She inexplicably interrupted him, "Don't bother me, don't touch my things next time. You go to your meeting, I'm hanging up."

She swallowed four vitamin C tablets, Zheng Wei pulled up the curtains, didn't even change her clothes, and fell asleep on the bed. After a while, she opened the desk lamp that Lin Jing had brought over again, and in the familiar light, she drifted off to sleep.

She didn't know how long she had slept, nor did she have any dreams. She felt a pair of hands touching her forehead and woke up, slowly opening her eyes. As expected, she saw Lin Jing sitting on the edge of the bed, using his hand to check her body temperature.

"It's good that you don't have a fever. What's wrong, where does it hurt, have you eaten?"

Zheng Wei didn't say a word, just lay on the bed, staring at him with wide eyes.

Her gaze made Lin Jing feel a bit strange, "Is there something?"

Zheng Wei sat up with her head in her arms, "It's nothing. Maybe I caught a chill last night and my head hurts a bit."

"No wonder you sounded so down and had a bad temper over the phone. Did you find the medicine? I told you last time that they were all in the medicine box, didn't I?"

"Really? I don't remember... Are you done with the meeting?"

Lin Jing said, "The whole day was a sea of words and mountains. After work, I opened it non-stop, but there's nothing important to do, so I came back. On the way, I bought some potstickers, which I remember you like to eat when you're sick."

He brought over the steaming hot dumplings, saw her bowing her head with red eyes. He stretched out his hand to rub her hair, "Don't want to eat?"

  "I'm not hungry... Lin Jing..."

"Hmm." He responded with a murmur, but she didn't continue speaking, and instead burst out laughing. "You look like this and it's making me feel a bit uneasy."

Zheng Wei smoothed her hair with her hand and suddenly became spirited. "I'm no longer dizzy now. Lin Jing, can you help me do something?"

Lin Jing rubbed her chin, "Can I know what it's about first?"

"Don't worry, I won't make you go through thick and thin. Just try on that uniform for me to see how it looks." She pointed to the wardrobe across from her.

Lin Jing said, "How did you know I was afraid of going up the knife mountain and down the fire sea? Which uniform is it? The one I took back from the dry cleaner's last time and left here?"

Zheng Wei nodded and smiled as she pushed him. "Hurry up, put it on for me to see, don't talk so much nonsense."

"What's so good about it?" Lin Jing shook her head, but still took out the uniform from the closet, "Wear it now? What are you thinking again?"

Zheng Wei hugged a pillow and sat cross-legged on the bed, tilting her head and smiling, "Haven't you heard of 'the temptation of uniforms'?"

Lin Jing almost couldn't keep up with her jumping thoughts, stunned for a moment, then started smiling. "What's so difficult about this?"

Zheng Wei watched as he unbuttoned his shirt, took it off and put on a blue uniform, not forgetting to gesture with his hands and feet, saying "Pants! Pants! Change into those too."

Lin Jing followed his words and looked at Zheng Wei. Their eyes met, and the air was filled with a hint of ambiguity.

He tidied up his clothes and walked in front of her, "Are you satisfied?"

Zheng Wei looked him up and down, "I wanted to see what your other side looks like."

The uniform fit him perfectly, and on Lin Jing's body, it added a few points of sharpness and elegance to his originally warm and gentle temperament. It was unclear whether it was due to the badge on his chest, but even his eyes seemed to have a hint of sharpness. Zheng Wei imagined that when he sat in the judge's seat, he would also be cold and hard.

However, when he smiled, his previous coldness disappeared completely. "Does it look good?" Having seen Lin Jing's usual calm and collected demeanor, Zheng Wei rarely saw him like this, with some uncertainty, just like a child waiting for an adult's confirmation.

"You should believe that Deputy Prosecutor Lin looks good even with a leaf on his body." Zheng's subtle praise made the dimples on Lin Jing's face more pronounced, and he swung the tie in his hand, "Do I still need to put this on?"

Zheng Wei leaned forward, took the tie, loosened it from his neck, and then smiled up at him. Her hands inadvertently pulled slightly on the end of the tie, pulling him closer to her. Before Lin Jing could react, Zheng Wei took advantage of the momentum and kissed his lips.

Lin Jing's heart may have been prepared for this passionate scene, but when he hugged her back, he was still excited to the point of losing control.

She quickly messed up his neat uniform, and he sat her down on his lap, face to face, enjoying her hands roaming all over him while satisfyingly sighing, "Is this your way of praising me through action?"

Zheng Wei increased her strength a bit and pinched his skin, smiling as she said, "No, this is my verdict on you."

Lin Jing murmured in a low voice, "Then I am willing to accept punishment."

Zheng Wei had never pleased him so much, he was brought to the pinnacle of happiness by her, closed his eyes, and the sunset burst forth, until the two washed away the sweat on their bodies, naked and embracing each other on the narrow single bed, that light turned into a lingering flame. Zheng Wei leaned against Lin Jing, feeling his hand gently stroking her body aimlessly, as gentle as feathers.

She leaned her body closer to his, using her palm to gently rub against the slightly prickly stubble on his chin, and suddenly asked in a low voice, "Lin Jing, have you ever held anyone else like this?"

Lin Jing's hand slowly stopped, and after a while, she smiled and said, "I can understand that Little Fei Long is also jealous for me?"

Zheng Wei raised his head from his bosom, "I want to know."

He thought for a moment, "Of course I have female friends, but those are all things of the past."

"A female friend?" Zheng smiled, "A female friend like me?"

Lin Jing finally began to seriously prop up her body, looking at her and saying, "Don't use things that happened before we were together to torment me, okay? It's not fair, even the law doesn't have retroactivity."

Zheng Wei said, "Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bring up your past. I don't have the right to do that either. It's just that suddenly I'm curious - do you remember her or their taste? Did you love them?"

He looked at her thoughtfully and said, "In our lifetime, we may meet many people. Sometimes we happen to be on the same path and walk together for a while until we meet the person we really want to spend the rest of our life with, then we'll entrust the rest of our journey to that person and travel to the end together."
