United States Military Academy at West Point
Kaepernick's home is a three-story villa in the suburbs dozens of kilometers away from New York City, where he lives with his wife Barbara, their three sons and two fluffy big dogs, Caylo and Zeus!
"Do you like it?" As soon as she got up in the morning, Lata saw that lively Chinese girl and her own dog Kyros playing together happily.
The girl crouched beside Kaylo and Zeus, stroking their fur, seemingly unaware of what she was doing, laughing with unusual joy.
"Ah, so cute!" Kafi hugged Kaylo's head and smiled happily. After resting for a night, he finally felt better today. This was the suburbs, with very good air quality. Americans were very environmentally conscious, and unlike Chengdu, the weather here was not gloomy at all. The sky was extremely clean, making people feel especially good.
Seeing two big dogs at Uncle Kep's house, Ka Fei was naturally very excited to rush up and tease these little dogs. Since the elderly people at home have a relatively fragile respiratory system, they dare not raise small animals at home. Looking at these little animals makes me feel especially happy.
"What are you saying to them?" Lata curiously squatted beside the girl, who had just been scratching Kylo's fur and speaking softly there.
"I'm preparing to kidnap your dog." Kafi laughed without any guilt.
"Abduction?"
"Well, I told Kylo and Zeus that I'd hug them every day, play with them, take them for walks..."
"Hehe, what's the outcome?" Lata suppressed a smile.
"Well, it turns out your dog is very loyal, just enjoying my service, and doesn't owe me anything!"
"Haha......" Lata couldn't help but burst out laughing. It seemed that this girl was really interesting and kind-hearted people were worth befriending.
"Are you studying at Harvard University?"
"Alright."
"There are still very few Chinese people studying at Harvard University now!"
"Yes, but it will be fine in a few years. China has developed now and people in the future will have more international vision. More and more people will come to foreign countries."
"Really? I'm not too familiar with China, can you tell me more about it?"
"Alright..."
Lata was a talkative boy and soon became friends with Lanchi, Kaifeng and others.
Ferrari returned at night, Ferrari was much more steady, usually didn't speak much during meals, occasionally exchanged with a few people, his every move was full of military style. Unlike his brother Roen's smile hiding a knife, and unlike his younger brother's simplicity, he had his own characteristics.
"Are you this strict with yourself at home too?" Kaiyun looked at Ferrari in surprise as he got up on time every day, had meals on schedule, drove a spotlessly clean car, and wore clothes that were quite different from those of ordinary American boys. It could be said that Ferrari's every move was full of unique charm.
"For a soldier, there is no distinction between on and off the battlefield!" Ferrari said with a smile.
I don't quite understand!
Kaiyun and Lanchi exchanged a glance, this seems quite different from their usual attitude towards life!
I heard that West Point Military Academy has very strict and abnormal school rules, fortunately I didn't attend there!
Kaiyun and Lanchi secretly congratulated each other.
But Caffrey was very interested in Ferrari. "I heard that West Point requires students to have only four responses, is that right?"
"That's right, I've also heard that at West Point, no matter when you're asked a question by an upperclassman or officer, there are only four possible responses: 'Sir, yes sir'; 'Sir, no sir'; 'Sir, no excuse sir'; 'Sir, I don't know sir.' You can't say another word beyond these, reading is not allowed"
"Is that so?" Kaiyun was also a bit curious, everyone's impression of the US came from domestic media and various magazines, but never heard an American say it in detail, really don't understand, West Point's rules are really that abnormal.
Several Chinese people did not expect that Ferrari would be even more surprised, "Who said so? If it's only like that, then there is no way to communicate at all!"
"Huh?" Lance and a few others exchanged glances, wondering why what they heard was different from what they thought.
"What you said is also true, that's when giving orders and reporting, daily communication with other schools has no difference."
"Even with orders and reports, such language can't be fed back well!" Kaiyun still didn't understand.
"In the army, obedience is a heavenly duty, and it doesn't need too much verbal explanation and communication."
"Isn't there any explanation at all? Can many things be done without an explanation?"
"In the army, there is no explanation, no excuse, West Point just wants to make cadets understand: no matter what kind of environment they encounter, they must learn to take responsibility for all their actions!"
"It's... cruel. Cafi doesn't know how to describe it. He had read some reports about West Point before, but only when he actually faced a West Pointer did he realize that the cruelty of West Point had penetrated deep into the heart of every cadet."
If it were you, could you bear such cruelty?
"No excuse", no matter how reasonable the excuse may seem. It emphasizes that everyone must do their best to complete any task, rather than finding excuses for not completing tasks.
Kaifu knew that their purpose was to teach students to adapt to pressure and cultivate their perseverance. It made every student understand: there is no excuse for work, failure has no excuse, and life has no excuse.
Caffe clearly, these "no excuse" training, let the West Point cadets developed a fearless determination, strong willpower, perfect execution and confidence to complete any task within a limited time.
But can these outsiders understand it for themselves?
At least you don't understand it yourself!
Knowing is one thing, but actually experiencing that kind of life is another matter altogether!
Ferrari took a look at the three Chinese kids' rather peculiar expressions and estimated that they had misunderstood West Point again, it seemed that in foreigners' eyes, West Point was an extremely serious, cruel and unfree school, even demonized itself, without thinking that even people from as far away as China would think this way!
A faint smile, "Actually, West Point is relatively free, it's just that this freedom is relative..."
Ferrari was a bit surprised, and his family told him everything, after hearing about the three Chinese students' stories, he was slightly curious, how could they get into Harvard and Yale? That means they must have their own unique place! Under the influence of this subconsciousness, Ferrari also rarely talked to strangers about his school.
"Laura, where would you like to go after dinner?" Barbara looked at the well-behaved Chinese girl with great affection, having always wanted a daughter but unfortunately giving birth to only sons.
"I'll take them on a tour of the city, to see the Broadway theater, and it just so happens that Les Misérables is being performed these few days..."
"Let's go with Lata's arrangement!" Ka Yun and Kai Fei both had no objections to Lata's arrangement.
Ferrari returned and stayed for a few days before leaving with his friends. However, he also kindly left his contact information behind.
Three people led by Lata started strolling around New York City, a city that was specially recommended by National Geographic Magazine!
As soon as you enter New York City, you can't help but want money.
Looking at the bustling Fifth Avenue, the world's top brands are all crowded here. I thought of a report I once read that during the big sale, even the British Queen would take a plane to come and shop.
A few people with a head full of black lines, this is indeed a Golden Cave!
As I walked up to the mansion, there was a luxurious villa that exceeded my imagination. The lights inside were dazzling like gold, and the black doorman wore a neat uniform, with elegant manners. Without seeing the people living inside, one could firmly imagine that the master's wealth was astronomical.
"If only I could have a set of residence here, it's a symbol of status!" Kaiyun sighed, not knowing how little money he had until he came to the United States.
Further up, I arrived at the black neighborhood. The houses I saw had no windows, the people I saw had no jobs, and the stories I heard were about murder, robbery, single mothers, drug addiction, and arson. All the stories shared a common theme: "It's all because of poverty!"
"New York is really straightforward, it's telling us with its actions that having money is great and not having money is miserable." Lanchi concluded with a smile.
"It's not necessarily so!" Lata smiled and led several people into Greenwich Village.
The old house here has a history of over 100 years, with green ivy crawling all over the red brick walls, and the air is filled with the scent of leaves and sunlight intertwined with evaporation.
"There was once a group of poor artists who made money carelessly, wandering around the old streets here every day, writing in front of open wooden windows, and exhibiting paintings that were not for sale in dimly lit cafes on narrow street corners. Gradually, this place became famous, gradually, it became a tourist area, surrounded by silly tourists from all over the world. So, the artists moved to the poorer SoHo district to open up their new world, until the housing prices in SoHo rose and the coffee became expensive, they retreated to the East Village, a place without a rich atmosphere."
Lata introduced them briefly, it was evident that he had immense respect for these artists.
Then, Kaiyun and the three others saw how money and art went to war - Money wanted to buy, Art wouldn't sell, Money had to buy, Art turned around and left.
This intense contrast shocked the three of them, and for a moment they couldn't adapt.
In New York where material desires are rampant, it turns out that dollars aren't omnipotent either.
At this point, several people were really somewhat puzzled!
Under Lata's lead, slowly gazing at New York, the more I look, the more confused I become.
In the midst of Manhattan's gleaming glass and steel skyscrapers, a green oasis like a billiard cloth - Central Park; behind the elegant prosperity of Wall Street and Broadway lies the seedy chaos of 42nd Street; in the bustling streets, cars speed by frighteningly, pedestrians ignore red lights, and deliverymen on rickety bicycles weave recklessly through traffic... Take another look at the New York subway: walls covered in graffiti, a strong smell of urine, rusty water dripping from steel beams, dead mice rotting between tracks - an ideal setting for murder and robbery. Yet this grimy, chaotic metal monster is one of the world's most efficient public transportation systems: 25 lines, 468 stations, covering almost every corner of the city, with cheap fares and punctual service.
In New York City for five days, under Lata's leadership, the three of them saw many things that only native Americans would pay attention to. Having seen so much, they gradually understood why New York is called heaven and hell, because it really deserves it!
No wonder there was once a saying like this, "Nothing surprises you here because it's New York."
New York, like a bizarre museum, exhibits the most modern and ancient, civilized and ignorant, noble and ugly, prosperous and desolate, rich and impoverished, fashionable and conservative... all products of modern material and spiritual extremes.
After five days, the three of them were slowly drawn in by New York and understood why people all over the world admired it so much. The feeling towards New York couldn't be described simply as like or dislike.
It's hard to put into words the feelings it evokes, yet one can't help but be drawn to it. Its beauty and ugliness, its richness and monotony, its excessively flamboyant freedom and its overly cautious prudence. Sometimes it withers like an old man who can no longer walk, sometimes it bursts forth with the vitality of a young lad; sometimes it's as cruel as a meat grinder, sometimes it's as warm as a grandmother's smile; sometimes it's as vibrant as spring flowers, sometimes it exudes the melancholy of autumn leaves... It's like everything, yet like nothing at all; it's all things, yet none. All joys and sorrows, all flavors of sweetness and bitterness, all glories and declines, are simultaneously displayed in a single time and space, with a hundred different expressions and a hundred different tastes.
"Perhaps this is the charm of New York." Lancy said with emotion after looking at Rata for five days.
