Chapter 33: Confession

  Volume 1 Chapter 33 Confession

No expected fall, just as my body tilted for a moment, a figure rushed over to catch me, and I happened to lean on his body. "Really not careful!" Lu Qi's voice came from the top of my head. I was somewhat annoyed, why did I always make a scene in front of him?

"What's wrong? Can't bear to come down?" The teasing voice rang out again, and I came back to my senses, my face involuntarily flushing red. His hand was still wrapped around my waist, this posture was too...I quickly jumped down, "Ah!" A sharp pain shot up from my foot, I frowned tightly, gritting my teeth. "What's wrong? Where are you hurt?" He anxiously asked. "Yun'er, what's wrong?" Cui Hui also rushed over.

"It's nothing, I probably just twisted my foot." I sat down and swung my right foot back and forth a few times. "It should be fine, it'll be okay after some exercise." Seeing how tense they looked made me feel a bit embarrassed - after all, I'm almost an adult myself, yet they're so worried about me. I forced a smile: "Really, it's nothing, just help me with painting the signboard and I'll take a break before finishing this wall mural."

"No, we're not painting today." Lu Qi's face was serious, with a hint of heartache in his peach blossom eyes. "We are responsible for finishing the signboard, but this wall painting can't be done today, let's do it next week." As he spoke, he squatted down and stretched out his hand to gently lift my foot. I shrank back slightly, wanting to withdraw my foot, but he glared at me: "Still not behaving? Let me take a look." I stuck out my tongue and obediently extended my foot for him to examine.

"It's a bit swollen." He gently stroked his hand over my ankle, and a warm, tingling sensation spread throughout my body. I shivered involuntarily, and my face flushed with embarrassment. Looking at him, it seemed like his hands trembled slightly. "It's okay, thank you, I feel much better," I said softly. He silently released his hand and turned to wipe the sign.

I sat quietly, watching them turn the words and pictures I wrote into colorful ones, with many touching feelings in my heart. I sincerely exclaimed: "Lu Qi, thank you so much! With a good friend like you, I'm really lucky!" He looked up and smiled: "Okay, let me be your guardian, protecting you for life!"

"Huh?" I was stunned, is this a confession? But it's also too sudden, right? No way, he must have just said it casually, yeah, with his playful personality, it must be unintentional. "What? You're not willing?" He seemed annoyed, staring at me intensely with his peach blossom eyes. "No, I was just thinking about something and didn't hear clearly, can you say it again?" I took an evasive approach, playing dumb, "We're very good friends, you won't be mad at me, right?" My flattering tone left him speechless, lowering his head to furiously brush his face.

Before long, the color of the sign was brushed up, and the golden words "Morning Dew Clothing Store" matched with the background of the rising sun in Shanghai. It's just perfect! And what's even more wonderful is that a mermaid painted on the beach wore modern clothes I designed, which made the theme very prominent. I applauded excitedly: "Great job, two masters!" Xue Hui was also thrilled: "Really beautiful! Luckily you wrote down the color to brush in each place, otherwise, how would I know? So this master should be referring to yourself?"

Lu Qi leaned against the side, narrowing his good-looking peach blossom eyes, and that lazy expression was so charming. "Xiao Ruoruo, have you seen enough?" He looked at me with a smile that wasn't quite a smile, "I also think this master should be you. I didn't expect you to be so talented." "No way, it's just that your colors are brushed well," I said humbly. He snorted: "You're being too humble, it's fake."

"Alright, I won't tease you anymore. To be honest, I've been wanting to ask you, how did a little girl like you think of opening a clothing store?" he asked seriously. "Oh, it's not me who opened it, I just wanted to help out at home and give my mom some suggestions," I rubbed my nose. "You're really a good kid! So sensible too." He chuckled lightly. "Aren't you a good kid?" I retorted.

His face darkened: "I'm not a good kid." Looking at his expression, there must be something. I asked him again: "You didn't do anything bad, why aren't you? Besides, it's normal for boys to be playful, my brother is very playful too." "Nothing," he forced a smile, "let's not talk about it, hurry up and pack your things and go home." After that, he started cleaning up.

Qiao Mei had already packed up the paint box and was arranging the brushes on the table. Lu Qi put away the signboard, looked at the bag on the table and asked: "What's this? Are you taking it back?" "It's fabric, to be taken back to make sample clothes." "Sample clothes? Is it made in your image?" he asked. "Uh-huh, just make a few sets for now, I'll paint others later." "Haha, finally telling the truth, and yet you said it wasn't yours, this clothing is obviously designed by you." He looked smug.

"I didn't say it wasn't my design," I said with a smile, and indeed it wasn't my design at all. I just drew what people in the future would wear, copying from pictures. I thought to myself, but I couldn't tell them that, or they'd think I'm a monster! And besides, even if I wanted to make it myself, I don't have the time!" I continued, "But I'll come by every week to check on things."

He ran his hand through his hair, then lightly shook his head, that action was as charming as it could be. Alas, he's a super charmer! Why is every small movement of his so captivating? I'm infatuated again.

"So, the super beautiful clothes that Bao'er mentioned are the ones you're wearing, which is also your upcoming clothing line? Brother, your fashion sense is really something. I'm so envious! The design, the style, everything is just perfect! You're going to be a big hit in the fashion world! Congratulations!"

He helplessly said, "I was going to say, how did you think of such clothes? The kind that can catch Bao'er's eye is not common." I was a bit curious: "Is Bao'er very picky? She doesn't seem like it. Her family must be quite wealthy, right?" He was surprised: "Why do you talk about Bao'er like that?" "Not that, it's just when we first met, Bao'er asked us to tell her where this dress was bought from and she would buy us a hair clip. I thought to myself, girls from rich families must be very wealthy. Am I right?" There was a bit of speculation in my heart, but I didn't say it out loud. He nodded and then shook his head, leaving me confused - did they have money or not? "She's the daughter of the town mayor," he finally said slowly, "Her mother is my aunt."

"Oh, so you're childhood friends?? What's with the awkwardness?? It seems like there's something unspoken between you two. Are you guys hiding something from each other? You're not even making an effort to talk to each other! What's going on?!"
