Chapter Thirty-Four May Day
Although I don't want to admit it, but last night, just last night, you appeared in my dream again, Mu Rong Xiao Zhu.
"You're not here either, Chen Xiu. You must have been fooled by your teacher." In the afternoon, Feng Hongyan called Ouyang, who was just about to take a nap at home.
"No, my classmates just called each other and said they saw it on TV, maybe you missed it. I'm going to take a nap, I'm exhausted from this morning." Ouyang said, then hung up the phone. Just as Ouyang was taking the bus back home, he received another call from his classmate saying that he had seen Ouyang on TV. Maybe his mother hadn't seen it. There's only Grandma Feng Qinglian at home, and Ma Si should be having a normal school day today, there shouldn't be any activities."
Lao Lao Feng Qinglian basically sleeps after lunch, usually before 1 pm, or else she'll get a headache. Ouyang calculated that Grandma's daily sleep time is almost over 10 hours.
Waking up from a nap, it was already 4:30 in the afternoon. Ouyang got out of bed, rubbed his eyes, and went to the bathroom. Feng Qinglian was preparing dinner in the kitchen and saw that Ouyang had woken up. She said to him, "Your phone has been vibrating nonstop this afternoon. I saw you were sleeping soundly, so I didn't call you. Go see who's looking for you."
"Oh." Ou Yang was still half asleep, he went back to his room and picked up the phone, there were three missed calls from Xu Yu Jie and one from his father. Ou Yang had a habit, whether at home or in school, or outside, no matter if anyone was watching, perhaps because of habit, Ou Yang's phone was rarely on ring mode, so much so that every time his mother would scold him for not putting it on ring mode even when he was outside and couldn't borrow a phone.
Ouyang Xian first dialed his father's phone number.
"Morning dawn, I'll be back home in May, are you happy or not?" The voice on the other end of the phone was that of my father, Ouyang Mubo.
Then we have a sports meeting. After May 1st, my mother said that it seems that we can move into the new house soon. Ouyang was also very happy when he heard his father say so.
"Alright, I heard her say that once I've finished what I need to do here, I can head back."
"En." After some small talk, Father asked about Ouyang's recent situation, and Ouyang hastily ended the call, saying that the phone bill was expensive.
Ouyang lay on the bed and dialed Xu Yu Jie's cell phone.
"Hey, didn't you say you were going back to sleep? Why are you calling me so many times in the afternoon?" Ouyang asked before Yuemei could speak.
"I'm worried about you, I've called so many times and you didn't answer. I think there are only two possibilities." On the other end of the phone, Xu Yu Jie's voice was also tired, probably just waking up.
"What two possibilities?" Ouyang asked.
"One possibility is that you didn't hear it because your phone was on vibrate, and the other possibility is that you were asleep." The calm analysis came from Xue Yuejie on the other end.
"Then you never thought that I was intentionally not answering your calls?" Ouyang teased and asked.
Xu Yu Jie immediately became unhappy, Ouyang actually always thought that Xu Yu Jie was someone like himself, whose emotions were written all over her face. It wasn't until much later that he realized he had been too naive.
"Then you don't want to talk to me, fine, hang up then." As soon as Xu Yu Jie said that, Ouyang immediately panicked and hurriedly said: "Don't be angry, I promise you, from now on, if you call me, I'll answer right away."
"Hmm, this is about right. By the way, come over to C district on May 1st and let's go out and have some fun," said Xǔ Yuèjié.
"I'm not sure when I'll be back, I'll try my best, who's going anyway." Ouyang thought for a moment about the May Day arrangements and then said.
"It's still just us, this time you can come alone, no need to bring Wang Lin and the others." Xu Yu Jie said it very seriously, making Ouyang also embarrassed to bring Wang Lin and the others, so he just grunted in agreement. Then Ouyang heard a knock on the door, and then said: "My mom is back, I'll talk to you later." After that, he hung up the phone.
"Chén xī, help me open the door, I can't do it with my hands." Grandma's voice came from the kitchen, and Ouyang went to open the door. Standing outside was Mais.
"I'm really sleepy, Mom usually gets off work at five. Besides, she always uses her key." Ouyang rubbed his head and then turned around to walk into the house.
"How come you're back so early today?" Mais asked as he walked into the house and put down his backpack.
Ouyang gave a wicked smile, then said: "I'm going to plant trees now, and I'll even be on TV. You guys should just go back to your normal classes, sigh." Mais was so angry that his face turned bright red, but he didn't know what to say.
That night, the two children finished their homework and lay in bed chatting.
"Hey, our school is organizing a group of students to hold placards for the district sports meet." Ouyang said, nudging Mais.
"What is it? Is it just one person per block and then they form a square like a combination to make a painting?" Mais said without opening his eyes.
Ouyang was somewhat surprised and then said: "How did you know this? You didn't have an activity like this at your school, did you?"
Mais looked disdainful, turned his head and turned his back on Ouyang, then said: "Don't think that only city schools have good things, our school sports meeting last year was like that too."
Ouyang asked curiously: "Is it fun? Is it particularly spectacular from above?"
Mais didn't answer directly, but said: "From the top it looks magnificent, but the people holding the signboards are very tired during training. I estimate that your school's training time should be longer than ours. And you'd better not slack off, because if one person holds a wrong signboard, others can see it at once from the top."
After hearing what Mais said, Ouyang immediately lost interest in holding up the sign.
The next afternoon.
All the students were assigned a placard, and Ou Yang looked at the oil painting behind his own placard, but really couldn't make out what it was, even when combined with the student next to him.
Just as Mais said, it was indeed a whole afternoon. Ouyang's arm was a bit sore from time to time, and some classmates would hold up the wrong signboard. The broadcast would shout out which row and which person, and that classmate would be criticized. Wang Lin held up the wrong one for a while, so he was scolded by Teacher Luan.
When the activity ended, every student was rubbing their shoulders, indicating they were very tired. However, Ou Yang thought it was okay because he would rather hold up a sign here for an afternoon than go back to class and attend that damn math lesson.
According to the school leaders, this district sports meeting is not only for Fongmao Middle School, but also includes many key junior high schools in the district, including 67 Middle School. Therefore, the school naturally wants to save face and does not want any problems with the event, so it's better to cancel afternoon classes every day to train, which is still not enough.
So for the next few days, Ou Yang and his fellow first-year junior high school students continued to engage in this dull activity. From time to time, Ou Yang would look up at the upper floors and find that the senior students would sometimes glance over in their direction. Perhaps they too had gone through this before? The smiles on their faces, were they sympathetic or gloating? Ou Yang didn't want to think about it.
The days are passing quickly, and as the weather gets warmer day by day, the May Day holiday is also approaching. These days have seen several spring rains, making the air on campus exceptionally fresh.
"What? This year's Labor Day holiday is only five days off? And we have to be back at school on the 6th at 6:00 am?" Ouyang Ting couldn't believe that the Labor Day holiday was only five days long.
"Counting the two days of sports meeting, it's also a seven-day holiday, this approach is like Feng Mao's style." Zhou Feng smiled and comforted Ouyang. Ouyang sighed and could only accept this reality.
On the last day of April, Ou Yang lost again today. It seems that since Xiao Zhu invited him out, Ou Yang has been late every day, sometimes later than Xiao Zhu. Ou Yang wondered if Xiao Zhu had told the bus driver to leave early on purpose, but when he asked Xiao Zhu, she just smiled.
"Morning, when are we going out? I know you might be busy, so you decide." After school, Xu Yuejie walked to Ouyang's seat and asked, while Wang Lin and Xu Xuemei consciously walked out of the classroom.
"Alright, then it's the 3rd. I'll give you a call when I come over."
Xu Yu Jie happily nodded and then called out to the two people beside her to walk out of the classroom.
"You two go first, I haven't finished packing up my schoolbag yet." Mu Yuhan said to Xu Yuejie and Xiao Yangchen.
After the two people walked out of the classroom, Mu Yuhan turned around and said to Ouyang: "On Sports Day, it's better to arrive at school in the morning when it's cold. Wear more clothes. On the 3rd, you don't have to come too early, Xu Yuejie can't get up."
Ouyang smiled and said: "Hehe, I know, girls always get up later."
Mantou also smiled and said: "It seems like boys get up later."
Two people chatted for a while and walked out of school together.
"Your dad is coming back on the 4th, what's wrong?" At the dinner table at home, mother made stir-fried beans and was very pleased with herself, then kept serving Ou Yang dishes while talking.
Ouyang thought for a moment, as long as he didn't miss the gathering at No. 3, then said: "Mom, this is delicious."
Feng Hongyan laughed when she heard this and said: "As long as you like eating it's fine."
"So just stop giving me trouble, okay?"
The person opposite Ma Si almost laughed and sprayed rice onto the table, Feng Qinglian gave Ma Si a white eye, Ma Si lowered his head, holding back laughter.
A few days before May 1st, Ouyang was doing his holiday homework normally, but because he had been in contact with the placard holder all along, the course hadn't progressed much. More energy was to be put into the mid-term exam after the sports meeting. On the first and second of May, Ouyang spent his time reviewing. Seeing how hardworking Ouyang was, his mother Feng Hongyan allowed him to go out and play on the third.
On the third day, Ouyang got up early and walked towards the train station...
