Chapter 47: Doubts
"Ouyang, Ouyang!" Hearing his mother call out his name again and again, Ouyang rubbed his eyes and headed to the living room. He was still thinking about today's move and the different expressions on everyone's faces at the Mais' house, which gave him a headache.
"What's wrong, so happy, won't be the phone telling you that you've won a prize?" Ouyang came to the living room, and it was clear that the light in the living room had dazzled him.
"Guess who just called?" Mother asked with a sly smile. Ouyang shook his head and said, "I won't tell you, I'm going back!"
"Wait a minute, it's the new head teacher calling, he said he would call all students in Class D to ask about their situation." Feng Hongyan called out to Ouyang and continued.
"It seems like that's more suitable for me to say, but it sounds like it should be more reliable than what Teacher Yuan said." Ouyang said as he walked towards his own room.
"He asked about family situation, not asking you to evaluate the teacher." Feng Hongyan muttered to herself, and when she looked at Ouyang, Ouyang had already gone back to his room and fallen asleep.
I don't know when it started, but Ou Yang felt that District D was becoming more and more unfamiliar to him. Although high-rise buildings were being constructed and a leisure plaza had been built, everything around him, including the environment and the people, was changing. Was it the environment that was changing, or was he himself changing because he was studying in the city? Maybe if he went to live in the city for a while, things would get better? Perhaps he would even miss his days in District D. Thinking this way, Ou Yang fell into a deep sleep.
In the latter half of July, Ou Yang and his mother would occasionally sort out some things in District D. The large items had already been moved to their new house in District C. What was left were just some clothes and miscellaneous items. Ou Yang would sometimes dig up some photos from elementary school. Every time his mother saw these photos, she would first look at the photo, then look at Ou Yang, and say that Ou Yang had gotten fatter again. But Ou Yang would always say that he hadn't gotten fatter, but rather taller. Sometimes they would also find some toys that Ou Yang used to play with when he was little. If you were to ask about Ou Yang's collections from when he was young, the most numerous would have to be car models. Because his father Ou Bo did car sales, Ou Yang could be said to have been influenced by him since childhood. Every time his mother saw a model, she would pick it up and ask Ou Yang questions. But Ou Yang, who used to be able to rattle off the make of cars when he was little, now found himself at a loss for words when faced with his mother's questioning. Apart from packing up these essentials for moving, Ou Yang also went back and forth between extracurricular classes. There was a math class that he attended together with Xu Xue Mei, which was located in the city center, so occasionally they would go play around the city center too. What surprised Ou Yang was that his deskmate, Mu Rong Xiao Zhu, was also in that same class. It wasn't until later that he found out that Xu Xue Mei had been introduced to him by Mu Rong Xiao Zhu. Ou Yang got angry and asked Xiao Zhu why she hadn't introduced him instead, but Xiao Zhu explained that it was because she thought Ou Yang didn't like math, so she hadn't asked him. As for English class, since Ou Yang's grades were already perfect, he no longer needed to attend supplementary classes.
In the remaining free time, Ouyang naturally wanted to spend it with Xu Yu Jie. When talking about going shopping and playing with Xu Yu Jie, Ouyang felt strange. Every time when Xu Yu Jie held his hand, Ouyang wouldn't feel his heart beating faster, nervous, or have that so-called loving feeling. Moreover, Ouyang always felt a sense of disharmony when he was with Xu Yu Jie. In Zhou Feng's words, this was due to regional differences. Perhaps Ouyang had never accepted Xu Yu Jie from the bottom of his heart. Ouyang attributed these feelings to himself not being a city person, so he repeatedly urged his mother to move house.
Feng Hong Yan thought that if they took a taxi to District C and added the cost of moving things, it would be a huge expense. So she simply asked Mai Si's father, who was also Ouyang's uncle, Feng Man Yan, to drive them to their new home.
As the days entered August, the weather got hotter and hotter, with an average temperature of around 30 degrees every day. That afternoon, after lunch, Maisi drove his father's car to the Ou Yang family building downstairs. He had already made arrangements with Feng Qinglian that he would be staying at the Ou Yang's place tonight. The unit door opened, and Ou Yang appeared in Maisi's line of sight, carrying big bags and small bags. As soon as Maisi saw Ou Yang, he laughed and said: "Do you have to bring so many things when moving house?"
Ouyang glanced at Mais, carried the things to the car, and said: "You think I can take a little bit like you every time? This road is far, of course, I have to take it all at once. Come on and help."
After putting things on the car, a family of three came to the community where Ouyang's house is located in District C. There are many cars inside the community, some belong to the owners inside the community, and some are shopping cars parked inside the community, which makes it difficult for some vehicles in the Happy Community to enter due to lack of space.
"It's really like this, the property management doesn't manage anything, all kinds of cars are allowed to park inside the neighborhood, it's bound to cause trouble." Feng Manyan said to herself while honking the horn.
Feng Hongyan glanced at him and said, "By the way, about our family buying a new house and moving, you haven't told your brothers, have you?"
Feng Manyan turned her head and glanced at Feng Hongyan, then said: "Of course not, don't you trust your brother?"
Feng Hongyan smiled and said: "I don't believe you can drink."
As soon as this was said, Ouyang and Mais in the back seat both laughed.
After about an hour of moving and tidying, they finally put everything in its place in the room. Ouyang, Maisi, and Feng Hongyan were all exhausted and sat on the sofa, not wanting to get up, while Feng Manyan had already driven back home.
"Old aunt, you said your house is bought, why not spend money to buy a high-rise one with an elevator? If it were my home, would I need to climb so much? On the other side, I have to climb six floors, and on this side, I still have to climb." Macy was clearly exhausted, complaining.
Feng Hongyan didn't think much of it and turned her head to ask Ouyang: "Are you tired?"
Ouyang shrugged and said: "It's okay, I climb six floors every day, and my backpack isn't light either."
"Look at Chen Xi, how many more pounds of flesh do you have than him? And yet you say you're tired. Come on, I'll take you to eat, what do you want to eat?" Feng Hongyan turned around and patted Ma Si's belly, then said.
"Pot roast!" Maes replied without hesitation.
"You said you'd come to the city, but all you can talk about is something else. You can eat pot roast meat in District D, let's go." Feng Hongyan said, taking the two children and heading out the door.
That night, the three of them had dinner at a restaurant near Ouyang's house and went home to take a bath before going to bed. Mais was obviously interested in the large transparent glass embedded in the central position of the wall facing the living room in Ouyang's room, so he asked Ouyang: "What is this glass for? It's so big."
Ouyang, lying beside Mais, said: "My mom installed this glass under the pretext that the living room can be directly exposed to sunlight for monitoring my studies. Actually, she can see what I'm doing in the house from the sofa in the living room."
"That's not very good, you can't play computer or sleep on the desk anymore." Mais said while carefully observing the new room of Ouyang Xinjia. Against the headboard was a large bookcase, which was much taller than Ouyang's bookcase in District D. Facing the bookcase were the computer desk and study desk, the study desk being slightly shorter, but as long as you sat on the sofa in the living room, you could see everything inside through that piece of glass.
"What can be done about it? It seems I have no choice but to improve my hearing. Close the door, and if you hear the sound of the opposite house opening the door, immediately withdraw." Ouyang said.
"Can't this one be pulled down?" Mais pointed to the glass above, where a hanging rolled-up mural was suspended, with a zipper on the side that could be pulled down.
"Do you think my mom would let me slack off during study time? I think she designed this mural just so that the sunlight wouldn't be too harsh on our eyes in the afternoons." Ouyang sighed beside him, and Mais nodded in agreement. "You'd better be careful, I remember how when we were back home, you got so absorbed in playing games that even when your aunt came up behind you, you didn't notice. This time she doesn't need to come up behind you, she can see everything clearly through the glass."
"Anyway, it seems that the layout of this house is not bad. If you have time to come to the city in the future, just come to my place." Ouyang patted Mais and said.
"Alright, it's late, go to sleep." Mais said, turning around to prepare for bed. However, after closing his eyes, he couldn't fall asleep no matter what. Suddenly, he remembered something and said to Ouyang: "I'll tell you something, I now know everything about the class flower in my class, including her personality and hobbies."
Ouyang thought for a long time before remembering what Mais had said to him before he moved, about how he wanted to pursue the class beauty. Ouyang didn't open his eyes and said: "You must have spent a lot of money taking her friends out to eat, I just don't get it. My mom says that every day there are girls waiting by the window for you, why do you want to pursue that class beauty who already has a boyfriend?"
Mais laughed and said, "You don't understand this, those who are leaning against the window, I don't even look up to them. And most importantly, since I've already spent money on it, I must get it back."
Ouyang sighed and said, "Alas, you." Ouyang knew that Mais had been spoiled since he was a child and there was nothing he couldn't get, so this time he wanted to try his best to get something through his own efforts, no matter what it was, and he should support his brother.
"By the way, what's going on with you and Xu Yu Jie? Every time I try to find you to hang out, you're either at your cram school or not home. Tell me, where have you two been?" Ma Si suddenly became interested in Ou Yang and Xu Yu Jie's situation as well.
"I was just about to ask you, what does it feel like when two people are together and holding hands?" Ouyang asked, opening his eyes to look at Mais.
"Of course I'm nervous." Mais replied succinctly.
"But why do I feel so awkward when I'm with her, every time we hold hands I want to pull away, and then there won't be those romantic feelings you mentioned before." Ouyang expressed his concerns.
"Needless to say, you don't like her being." Mais's reply was still brief and to the point.
"How is that considered liking someone?" Ouyang continued to ask.
"This, I feel like I don't understand what's going on either, but since you put it that way, you and Xu Yu Jie are done for, so just scram, I'm not talking to you anymore, I'm going to sleep. Tomorrow we still have to play well in C district." Ma Si left these words behind, turned his head and went to sleep.
"What is it like, after all?" Ouyang thought, slowly closing his eyes.
