Volume 1 Chapter 27 Entering the Tiger's Den
"I guarantee it, let's pull together!"
"Hanged for a hundred years, who becomes the little dog!" The two porcelain-like people said in unison, their soft and mellow voices making one feel as if they were melting into life like a popsicle, numb all over, refreshing and delightful.
Southeast corner of the park.
Deep in the woods, there is an abandoned high tower that pierces the clouds. It should be a water tower originally built, but after years of neglect, it has become a desolate scene with broken branches and leaves. Behind the water tower, there are still dense woods, and further away is the AMD factory that once flourished but closed down decades ago, scattered into ruins, and now no one asks about it.
Xīn yuè de xīn er pū pū zhí tiào, tā yǒu diǎn hài pà le, kě xīn li què zǒng yǒu zhǒng zhí jué, dì dì jiù zài fù jìn!
Translation:
Xin Yue's heart was racing fast, she felt a little scared, but her heart always had a kind of intuition that her brother was nearby!
Could it be a kidnapping? Impossible, the Xia family is not some renowned or aristocratic family, and Xiao Hua's appearance clearly doesn't resemble that of an official's son. If it were really a kidnapping, then capturing Shuang Er would make more sense!
At this thought, Xiang Yue suddenly felt an infinite sense of pride for her brother. Girls are meant to be pampered! That's right, Xia Yan knew how to protect girls from a young age, and in the future... Xiang Yue couldn't help but cover her mouth and giggle.
Getting closer and closer to the high tower, I saw that the room at the bottom of the tower was bright and shiny, obviously there were people inside!
Serene wasteland, abandoned water tower, bright lamp light...
What a perfect hideout for a villain from TV! Could it be... a real kidnapping?!
Xīn Yuè quickly made a decision, to escape first and go back to get reinforcements! Charging forward bravely is just the bravery of an ordinary man! (What a magnificent and dignified thing to say, but in reality, she was scared to death) Xīn Yuè clenched her small fist, proud of her wise choice, but her two legs were already trembling with fear.
It's originally like this! With your current appearance going to rescue people, it's just a meat bun hitting a dog, gone and never coming back! (Still making excuses)
It doesn't matter if you have no firewood as long as you have a lush mountain left!
"Bang!" Poor Xinyue had just taken the first step of her triumphant escape, when she was struck by a heavy object on the back of her head and fell into a deep sleep.
"Sister, sister, waaah~"
Listening to Xia Yan's cries, Xiang Yue slowly woke up with a dull pain in the back of her head. She really couldn't understand who was so cruel, even such a beautiful and lovely... Cough, cough, Xiang Yue felt that she had a tendency towards self-love, and quickly stopped herself.
"Sister, how did you end up here too?!" Xia Yan asked with a tone of sadness and resentment.
Blinking her eyes, she quickly adapted to the dim and bright light. Xiang Yue discovered that her beloved little brother was actually tied to a pillar, looking at her with pitiful eyes. Suddenly, anger burned within her, just as she wanted to go untie her brother, she found... herself lying on the ground, hands and feet tightly bound.
All she could hear was the sound of sharp objects scraping against each other, and when Xiang Yue turned her head to look, the first thing that caught her eye was... a knife! A gleaming samurai sword! The flickering candlelight made it seem even more chillingly radiant, its presence intimidating.
Just now, she had made up her mind to shout for help at the top of her lungs to save herself and her brother. But as soon as she saw this knife... Xiang Yue suddenly felt a surge of cowardice, not daring to make a sound or breathe, and could only lie there obediently.
The room was very small, with a faintly yellow candle burning continuously, the floor covered with slightly damp straw, and in the corner sat a sturdy middle-aged uncle, playing with a long knife in his hand, his face shining brightly, like a child carefully studying a beloved toy.
Silence...
A mouse scurried out...
What a waste of money!
Thinking of getting into someone's skirt.
"Ah!" Xīnyuè exclaimed, not knowing that this was not okay. With one cry, she had enraged the big uncle. He rushed over and grabbed a handful of Xīnyuè's hair, his long knife pressed against her jade neck.
For the first time in 17 years, I felt death was so close to me. The feeling of a knife blade touching my neck was like a piece of paper placed on a flame, which could be burned out at any moment.
"You dare to shout again, I'll let your head move house!" The uncle said viciously, his hand grasping the knife handle with bulging veins, his bright red eyes full of murderous intent, as if he were a devil from hell.
At the same time, a loud coughing sound came, and Uncle let go of Xinyue, turned around and ran to the corner of the wall. It turned out that there was a small bed in the dark place, and a young man was lying on it.
"Oh, it's so hot! Cough, cough!" The young man said vaguely, turning his head to spit on the ground, and Xiangyue found that the phlegm was rust-colored.
The uncle gently covered the young man with a quilt, and used another blanket to cover his exposed arm. The upper half of that arm was wrapped in bandages, with bloodstains seeping through here and there, obviously seriously injured.
Xin Yue was still in a state of shock, panting heavily, her chest heaving violently, and the long hair beside her face had been stuck together by cold sweat. Xia Yan, who was standing next to the pillar, had already turned pale with fear, his mouth agape as he stared blankly at the corner of the wall.
The small bed was surprisingly made of bricks, with a hollow space underneath where many coal blocks that still retained warmth after being burned out were placed, making the bed warm as spring even on this bitterly cold and windy night.
The young man lying there couldn't be seen clearly, but from his heavy breathing, it could be determined that he was a male, probably around 20 years old.
Only then did the uncle squat down, using a knife to poke at the coal under the bed, taking out the ones that were about to go out and replacing them with some burning coals from the small stove beside it. The uncle patted his pants, stood up, took the towel off the young man's forehead, washed it in the water basin, wrung it dry and put it back on again.
After doing all this, the old man let out a long sigh and sat back against the wall, fiddling with the long knife in his hand.
The uncle's meticulous care brought a pleasant curiosity, and he began to carefully examine the young man. He saw that he had a clear and elegant appearance, typical of a handsome young man, but his originally handsome face was now pale and twisted in pain, like white paper.
The young man had just shouted that he was hot, but now he was shivering and pulling the quilt. This detail made Xiangyue fall into deep thought, she had long forgotten what kind of situation she was in.
One moment hot, one moment cold, coughing, fever, and blood in the sputum... Based on years of extensive reading of medical books, Xiangyue was certain that the young man had pneumonia! Recalling the young man's arm that wouldn't stop bleeding and his pale face, Xiangyue inferred that he might also have hemorrhagic anemia, which was likely the direct cause of the pneumonia.
Contracting such a serious illness, not going to the hospital, and shrinking in such a dilapidated place, what if it gets worse?! Looking at the patient's intense gasping for breath, Xiang Yue felt a pang of heart-wrenching pain, he must be gritting his teeth and enduring the suffering, how pitiful!
The uncle put down the long knife, pulled out a cigarette, and in the blink of an eye, accompanied by a "click" sound, a faint blue flame rose up. The uncle was about to light the cigarette when he heard an angry cry:
"No smoking! Go outside if you want to smoke!"
