Four Homely Virtues

  Chapter 12: Gu Jia Si

I typed out a line of numbers and then deleted them, only to type them out again and delete them once more. I stared at the glowing screen of my phone, irritably scratching my hair.

Should I tell Su Yan about Gu Liuyi and Qiao Yunge's affair? But then again, this marriage was only mentioned by Shen Bieru in passing and hasn't been finalized yet. If it doesn't end up happening, I'll just be making something out of nothing.

As I was listlessly fiddling with my phone, there came a knock at the door. I listened intently and opened it with some surprise.

Gu Shen, who was standing outside the door, was smiling at me with a hint of mischief in his eyes. I was wondering why he had come when he spoke up: "Sister, won't you invite me in to sit for a bit?"

His sister's scream made me get goosebumps all over my body, it was really uncomfortable.

I sidled inside the door and watched as Guo sauntered in with a swagger, plopping himself down on the sofa with an air of utter relaxation.

"Do you have something on your mind?" I looked out at the dark sky and really couldn't think of what Gu Chen would be coming to find me so late for.

"What's wrong, can't I come?" Gu Chen looked at me with dissatisfaction, with a young master's demeanor.

The impression I have of Gu Chen shouldn't be like this, at least the old him rarely smiled, just like Gu Liu Yi, I seldom saw such a brilliant smile on his face, although it didn't reach his eyes.

"Do you know Yunhao?" I suddenly remembered this and asked casually.

Gu's eyebrows rose as he looked at me, "Yun Hao? Yun family? Acquainted with each other, what's going on?"

"It's nothing, just from the same school." I didn't want to mention Yunhao's matter to Gu Chen, and replied absent-mindedly.

It seemed like he saw through my intentional avoidance, and with a slight curl of his lips, he suddenly pulled me into his arms, catching me off guard. Before I could even react, his face was already pressed against mine.

In the darkness, I only saw Gu's scorching hot eyes, the surging emotions at the bottom of his eyes overwhelming me like a tsunami, leaving me breathless.

"Sister, you're not focused, who are you thinking of?" Gu Chen's voice seemed to carry a certain enticement and temptation, those deep, pool-like eyes seeming to draw me in.

"No." I lowered my eyebrows, pressed both hands against his chest, wanting to pull away from the distance between us before, but unfortunately Gu Chen's strength was unusually great, and I only said: "Let me go first and then talk."

"Sister, what are you being cautious about?" Gu Chen didn't hear my words, took a deep sniff, and said with a intoxicated expression: "I used to hold you like this before, but back then you didn't care about these things. Now how is it? Have you grown up and become shy?"

"Gu Chen!" I scolded, my voice having cooled down, "In the past when we were young, I always treated you like a younger brother, don't spout nonsense!"

"What nonsense?" Gu Chen smiled coldly, "Sister, what are you guilty of?"

"You!" I was furious, and punched Gu Chen's body with a fist, as if venting something.

I'm really not close with Gu Chen, and it's true that we rarely see each other in a year. But there's always this inexplicable atmosphere between us.

I tried my best to avoid this atmosphere, so I rarely stayed alone with Gu Chen. I was trying to avoid it and carefully maintaining the difficult-to-explain sister-brother relationship between us, but Gu Chen always broke it.

To be honest, I'm afraid of Gu Chen. This fear that emanates from my bones is something I cannot deny. Although Gu Chen has never done anything to wrong me and has even secretly helped me avoid many dangers, I still fear him and reject him.

I'm sure my face was pale at that moment, Gu Chen was very dissatisfied with my distraction, and he heavily pulled my hair, I felt a chill and sucked in a breath of cold air, but Gu Chen burst out laughing.

"Sister, I don't like it when you're with me but still thinking about other things." Gu Chen's tone was very serious, even carrying a sense of sternness.
