Chapter 15 The Road Not Taken (Part 2)

Chapter 15: The Difficulty of Traveling (Part 2)

For opponents who have not met, Tengfei and Huoyun consider different angles. Tengfei measures the strength of his opponent from a modern warfare perspective. On the battlefield, weather conditions can indeed affect the course of the battle, but for small-scale urban warfare like this, especially for Tengfei and other top-level special forces who are capable of all-weather combat at any time, changes in weather will not pose a threat to them, and may even provide more opportunities to utilize timing and terrain.

The wind slowly picked up, clouds slowly gathered in the sky, and Nanquan City was shrouded under a low-hanging dark cloud.

"Attention, all team members, Espers are altering the weather, equipping laser sights and switching to snow terrain combat uniforms." Teng Fei gave the order.

Cao Sen gazed enviously at Teng Fei, who was commanding the battle with ease. Sighing, he thought to himself that this role should have been his, but now he could only watch as Teng Fei showed off his prowess. He felt extremely frustrated! Suddenly, everything went black in front of him, and something heavy pressed against his face. Damn it, a bulletproof vest.

Mei Fang doesn't know how to use it, Cao Sen knows how to use it but can't use it.

"Ma'am, use this vest to wrap up your son, and this is yours, please put it on." A team member said with ulterior motives, his eyes occasionally glancing at Little Cao Sen.

Cao Sen rolled his eyes at him, "You little brat, dare to tease me? You just wait!"

"It seems that if we don't kill a few of the bold ones, they won't know what modern warfare is." Teng Fei muttered as he changed into his combat uniform. "Huo Ge, no need to be tense, these days are not like before, relying on a flying sword can't kill all sides, bullets may have more killing power."

  Huo Yun nodded ambiguously.

"Attention, all units, fully armed!" With Teng Fei's command, a team member in the Beike car magically pulled out a pile of things from under the seat, Cao Sen strained his little head to look over, what the hell did these guys come up with?

MP5, M4A1, grenade launcher, and even an M240B machine gun.

"Little Wooden," Teng Fei said in a tone that made Cao Sen's teeth itch, "while you were sleeping in your mother's womb, these brothers didn't idle around, take a good look!"

He pressed a button, and the sunroof of the Beike opened. The team member smoothly placed the M240B on the roof of the car. Cao Sen vaguely saw that there was a machine gun mount installed on the top of the car, which was a quick-mount type, similar to the base of a microphone stand used on stage. Tengfei handed over the box-shaped ammunition to the machine gunner, and with two light clunks, the cartridge belt was in place, and the bullets were loaded.

"One gun per vehicle, with 2,000 rounds of ammunition."

Cao Sen's eyes turned red, like a little white rabbit with red eyes, he struggled and twisted his body in Mei Fang's arms, humming "yi ya yi ya".

"Hehe, baby, fighting is for the uncles, even mom can't help, be good baby, hide in mom's arms and watch the uncles beat the bad guys." Mei Fang got into character again.

Cao Sen was almost knocked out by Mei Fang. What fight? This is special forces! What uncle? They are my brothers!

Haha! The driver couldn't help but burst out laughing, and Teng Fei also gave Cao Sen a sly glance with a smile, "Hey, isn't it you who used to look down on women? Now you're stuck in a woman's arms, let us enjoy the show."

Woooo! A strange and mournful howl, like the wailing of ghosts and wolves, swept over the top of the car. In the dense clouds, it seemed as if a gigantic cotton ball had been torn apart, and large snowflakes fell densely from the sky, almost unable to be blown by the strong wind, falling straight to the ground. As soon as they landed, they bloomed into huge white flowers, only to be quickly covered by other snowdrifts. In an instant, the entire world turned a uniform white, with visibility limited to within three meters. The human field of vision almost lost all reference points for distinguishing direction.

Snowflakes blew into the car with the wind, Mei Fang opened her coat and wrapped Cao Sen tightly in it, holding him close. Cao Sen tried to struggle out of it to watch the battle, but Mei Fang ruthlessly pressed him back down again.

The machine gunner unfolded a piece of bulletproof cloth with a unique style and holes in the middle, put it on his shoulder and pulled it down. The bulletproof cloth covered the skylight, and the snowflakes dancing inside the Buick suddenly disappeared.

Cao Sen finally took advantage of Mei Fang's inattention and poked his head out, mumbling: "Chicken fart, chicken skin thread!"

Teng Fei suddenly came to his senses, "Quickly, use GPS to locate our route. Madam, I need Mù Mù's help to get him to reveal his head!"

Mei Fang felt very proud, her baby was so young and could already help adults with things, it's really impressive!

Cao Sen got excited, finally having another chance to participate in battle, even if he couldn't personally take the field, just listening was good enough!

  "Group A reports, nothing abnormal!"

  "Group C report, no abnormalities!"

This indicates that the convoy's route of advance and withdrawal is correct.

Teng Fei knew he didn't have as much experience as Cao Sen in commanding, so he told Cao Sen everything he heard through the headphones.

Cao Sen was extremely disappointed. After stirring up trouble for half a day, it was just wind and snow? The iron blood flowing through his body yearned for a battle.

"Four then, look at four uncle!" Cao Sen said vaguely again.

Luckily, thanks to years of cooperation with Cao Sen, Teng Fei quickly understood his meaning. "Attention, all vehicles observe surroundings, turret machine gunner use binoculars to scout!"

"I can't see anything, the snow is too heavy!"

"Be careful, there's a car coming from the opposite direction!"

...the earpiece crackled with team members' warnings, curses, and the sudden snowstorm turned the road into a mess, with all sorts of vehicles careening wildly like headless flies. The convoy was almost at a standstill.

"The lead car is clearing the way!" Teng Fei gritted his teeth and said, not having time to worry about what would happen later. If they were really trapped here, once the heavy snow blocked the road, it would be impossible to move forward after getting off the car, and that would truly put them in their opponents' hands.

Rat-a-tat! The lead car of the motorcade fired a burst from its machine gun, and over the loudspeaker, Guo Jing shouted orders to clear the way. Finally, the motorcade began to move forward slowly, gradually picking up speed. After more than two hours of arduous driving, the wind and snow subsided, and the motorcade turned onto the highway connecting to the Dongjiao Hotel in the suburbs. There were noticeably fewer vehicles here, and the view opened up, with the cars suddenly speeding up.

Cao Sen waved his small hand, "Quickly, no, car... distance... distance... control!" He kept using both hands to make a gesture of shortening the distance.

"Attention, all cars attention, slow down speed, close up distance, maintain fleet integrity!"

  The convoy slowed down.

"A report from Group A," Guo Jing said, "There is an unidentified object approaching ahead, I want to try a warning shot!"

  "Approved!" Teng Fei replied.

Rat-a-tat, rat-a-tat, could be clearly heard, the machine gun on Guo Jing's car fired two short bursts.

"It's cavalry! Oh my god, ancient cavalry!"

No sooner had the words fallen than the surroundings of the convoy were suddenly filled with thunderous hoofbeats and earth-shaking charging sounds. The cavalrymen wore heavy armor on their horses, donned full-face helmets, and held three-meter-long lances in their hands. The sharp lances mixed with cold snowflakes, forming a deathly pine forest that rapidly pressed towards the convoy.

Without a command, all the machine gunners on the rooftops simultaneously pulled their triggers. The M240B sprayed long tongues of flame in the snow-filled sky, sending chain after chain of steel bullets into the cavalry that filled the horizon.

Cao Sen anxiously pointed to the window, asking Mei Fang to hold him and take a look. Mei Fang firmly disagreed, holding him tightly and shrinking back into the car instead.

"Brother Sen," Teng Fei looked around the car and introduced to Cao Sen, "The enemy cavalry is endless in all directions, front, back, left and right. If we keep fighting like this, our ammunition will definitely not be enough!"

The real battle has begun, and Teng Fei no longer calls Cao Sen "Little Mummy", but instead habitually calls him "Sen Ge".

Caosen cursed in his heart, our hundreds and thousands of bullets are not enough to use, where did they get so many cavalry? Eight out of ten it's that damn illusion, this Teng Fei, isn't he usually quite clever?

"Cao Sen said to Mei Fang, "You... you..." He couldn't express himself clearly, so he simply used gestures, pointing his two fingers at his own eyes and then towards the outside of the window."

"Brother Sen wants you to take a look outside the car window!" Teng Fei translates Cao Sen's sign language.

Mei Fang stared with her eyes wide open, motionless.

Damn it! Teng Fei cursed in his heart and changed his words: "Let your son take a look!"

Mei Fang leaned out to take a look, her face changed color. What a powerful illusion! Who had such profound magical powers that the illusion could cover such a vast area? Even with her current level 11 abilities, she could only affect two or three people with her illusions, and the range was narrow. Just how strong was the hidden opponent?

"It's an illusion, he's very powerful..." Mei Fang said.

"Cease fire, it's an illusion!" Teng Fei commanded, he didn't care how formidable the person casting the illusion was, as long as he knew the cavalry wasn't real.

The machine guns on the vehicles fell silent, with occasional shots ringing out as the troops couldn't help but fire at the cavalry charging towards them. The bullets didn't bring down any of the enemy, and neither did the enemy cause much harm as they passed through the convoy. The troops let out a long sigh.

The cavalry gradually disappeared, and the wind and snow grew stronger again. The road and the surrounding scenery were once again hidden in the swirling snowflakes that filled the sky.

Cao Sen waved his small hand, signaling Teng Fei to let the convoy continue forward, rushing out of the area covered by the illusion technique, still shouting "Jī pí sī, jī pí sī" in his mouth.

"Each vehicle uses GPS and compass to determine the correct route, accelerate to rush out of the illusion coverage area. Note: maintain a dense formation, be careful not to fall behind!" Teng Fei said, looking at Cao Sen.

Cao Sen nodded and gave a thumbs up.

Teng Fei smiled awkwardly and truly began to command the battle, but he was still at a considerable distance from Cao Sen.

"Damn it! The GPS is dead!" the driver yelled, "Shit, the compass is also dead!"

Teng Fei hastily took over the GPS and compass to look, the display screen of the GPS was filled with garbled codes, while the needle on the compass was shaking violently like it had gone mad, unable to indicate direction.

"We've entered a fantasy realm, where there's no east or west, no sun, moon, or stars. Everything is fake, yet everything is real." The old tree bark muttered to himself, his face looking extremely unsightly.

"Hurry up, what are the characteristics of the illusion realm! How can we defend against it?" Teng Fei shouted loudly to Old Tree Bark.

  "Group A reporting, vehicle malfunction!"

  "Group C reporting, vehicle malfunction!"

"Look, our car has also broken down!"
