Chapter 20: The Hospital

  Chapter Twenty Hospital

Wu Hui could have gone home by himself, but Guo Yining was too cautious and always worried about his safety. On this Chinese New Year's day when such a big thing happened, he didn't want to trouble Guo Yining again.

Wang Siting waited in the car for half a day, but didn't see Wu Hui come out. She thought to herself that he was now at the Public Security Bureau and shouldn't be in any danger, but she still felt some worry. So she drove the car to the entrance of the bureau's main hall, only to find Wu Hui standing there alone, lost in thought. "Get in the car!"

Seeing Wang Siting waving at him from inside the car, Wu Hui walked over but didn't get in. "No need to go through so much trouble, I can actually head back myself."

Wang Siting ignored Wu Hui's words, "So much nonsense, are you a man or not? Stop dawdling and get in the car quickly."

Wu Hui found that Wang Si Ting had been following Wang Hua to learn Northeastern dialect for a few days, and it was already showing some effect. When doing things, she also seemed a bit like Wang Hua. As for Wang Si Ting's style of doing things, he still understood her somewhat. He thought it would be better not to argue with her, so he honestly got into the car, "Okay."

Wang Si Ting didn't drive towards Wu Hui's home, but instead drove in the opposite direction. Wu Hui was somewhat puzzled, "Aren't you sending me back home?"

Wang Siting hadn't studied psychology, and wasn't as perceptive about people's minds as Wu Hui, but as a woman's sixth sense was still relatively accurate. "What are you thinking in your heart that I wouldn't know? From this morning, I saw you restless and distracted, is it because you're worried about Qin Mama and the kids?"

Wu Hui did not expect that Wang Si Ting, who usually appeared to be indifferent and uninterested in other people's business, would actually know what he was thinking, "Thank you!"

As for Wang Si Ting's gratitude towards Wu Hui, she didn't intend to accept it. She didn't like overly sentimental things, "Don't mention it, I was also going to take a look at some leads on the arson case, and since you were heading in the same direction, I brought you along, so there's no need for thanks."

Wu Hui and Wang Si Ting have been together for a few days, probably already knowing what kind of person she is. Although on the surface she's cold and doesn't want to talk much with others, her thoughts are actually very delicate. It's just that she always covers up her warmest side, "No matter what, I still need to thank you."

Wu Hui may not know that every time he wants to study a person or something, he likes to push his glasses. Just now, when Wang Si Ting saw Wu Hui looking at her through the corner of her eye, she pushed up the glasses on the bridge of her nose, which made her back feel a chill. She didn't like it, "I don't like being studied, put away that knowing gaze of yours, or I'll throw you down."

Maybe this is what they call occupational disease, Wu Hui always wanted to see through everyone's thoughts around him, it was because of this habit that he could always see the ugly side that others couldn't. This also more or less made him have very few friends, "Sorry."

Perhaps because she felt that her previous words were a bit too severe, Wang Siting didn't respond to Wu Hui, and the car fell into an extremely awkward silence.

Today is the first day of the Lunar New Year, and the hospital is still crowded. Especially because of the big fire on New Year's Eve. The hospital is full of children and media interviewers. When Wang Si Ting saw so many people in the hall, she felt a bit uncomfortable, perhaps due to her work reasons, as she has been exposed to the most deaths. Suddenly seeing so many living people made her feel a little timid.

Wu Hui suggested that the two of them take the elevator directly from the underground parking lot to the 17th floor where Qin Mama and others were, in order to temporarily avoid the numerous news media at the entrance.

Although they avoided the people in the hall, it was impossible to avoid the crowded elevator. After the elevator stopped on the first floor, many people rushed in immediately, and even after the elevator alarm sounded, there were still many people squeezing inside while shouting "People inside, move further inside".

Because Wu Hui and the other person were in the elevator from the parking garage on the second basement level, at that time there were only two people in the elevator. Suddenly so many people squeezed in, quickly squeezing the two of them to the very back.

Wang Siting was squeezed to the corner of the elevator, surrounded by several somewhat stout men. Due to wearing more in winter, they didn't feel crowded inside and kept leaning towards Wang Siting.

Wang Siting stretched out her hand to push the people in front of her, but she couldn't budge them. Wu Hui saw Wang Siting's furrowed brow and panicked eyes, and with great effort, he pried open a gap and squeezed in front of Wang Siting. He used his hands to prop up the elevator wall, wrapped Wang Siting in his chest, and used his back to block out everyone else.

The elevator space is small after all, Wu Hui tried his best to keep the distance between him and Wang Si Ting within a certain range, but his power alone was far inferior to that of others. In the crowd of others, Wu Hui and Wang Si Ting's posture seemed like they were hugging each other.

Wang Siting looked at Wu Hui with gratitude, she was afraid of contact with people, especially so many people, which made her inexplicably panicked and fearful, in Wu Hui's arms let her emotions temporarily stabilize.

However, the two people's posture was really too ambiguous, which made them think of what happened in the car that night again. Wang Siting secretly glanced up at Wu Hui's lips, she remembered his lips were very soft and felt great.

Wu Hui felt Wang Si Ting's gaze on him, and he swallowed a few mouthfuls of saliva in embarrassment. He should have known better than to meddle in other people's business. Now that things had turned out this way, it was truly embarrassing to death, especially when he thought about what happened that night.

The hospital elevator basically stops on every floor, with some going down and others coming up, so the elevator is always packed with people, moving slowly like a turtle to the 19th floor.

Every time someone gets on or off, they always squeeze onto Wu Hui's back, and his chest inadvertently touches Wang Si Ting. At this time, the two will always make some awkward small movements to relieve the awkward atmosphere.

Wu Hui previously disliked coming to the hospital because of the strange smell and some things, but this time he seemed to have no such feeling. It turned out that when Wang Si Ting was in his arms, her head just happened to be against his chin, and he could smell the good and familiar scent on her body, temporarily forgetting his discomfort with the hospital.

"19th floor arrived." The elevator's button-pressing staff reported the floor number.

When he heard that they had arrived at the 19th floor, Wu Hui let out a long sigh of relief in his heart. He could finally go down. "Sorry, excuse me." Wu Hui turned around and tried to separate the crowd as much as possible, allowing Wang Si Ting to walk out smoothly from inside.

The two people who walked out of the elevator suddenly felt a refreshing breath, remembering the awkward atmosphere just now, and hurriedly went to the ward, absolutely cannot be alone together again, very dangerous.

Wang Siting knew which ward Qin Min lived in. Under Wang Siting's lead, Wu Hui first arrived at Qin Min's ward, "Mom Qin!"

Hearing someone calling her, Qin Min lifted her head and saw Wu Hui walking in. She quickly put down the book in her hand and said, "Wu Hui, it's you, good kid, come over and sit down quickly."

Wu Hui was raised by Qin Min with her own hands, so for Wu Hui, Qin Min can be considered his second mother. As for his feelings towards Qin Min, it's easy to imagine. "Mom Qin, I'm really sorry for coming to see you so late. How are you feeling?"

"Silly child, what are you saying? Qin Mama knows you're busy, I'm fine, it's just that I've grown old, an old useless bone. Qin Min held Wu Hui's hand, stroking it left and right, lovingly unwilling to let go."

Seeing Qin Min's face full of wrinkles, Wu Hui felt a pang of sadness. "Qin Mama, you're still young, how can you look so old."

Qin Minglei was about to say something, but when he saw Wang Siting behind Wu Hui, he suddenly remembered that he had forgotten his guest while chatting with Wu Hui. "Miss Wang, you're also here! I'm so sorry, I've been neglecting you while talking to Wu Hui."

Seeing Wu Hui and Qin Min's good relationship, Wang Si Ting stood there feeling a bit superfluous. "Auntie, what are you talking about? I'm fine, I just came to visit you with Wu Hui."

"Good kids, you're all good kids, sit down quickly." Qin Min beckoned with her hand, letting Wang Siting also sit on the edge of her bed. Looking at Wu Hui and then at Wang Siting, she felt indescribably happy in her heart.

Wang Siting couldn't understand the meaning in Qin Min's eyes, but Wu Hui could see it very clearly. It seemed that Qin Min had misunderstood his relationship with Wang Siting and wanted to explain. Thinking that Wang Siting was sitting next to him, he worried about embarrassing her, so he decided to wait until they were alone before explaining thoroughly. "Mom Qin, can you tell me what happened that day?"

Although the police had already asked her and she had said it many times before, Wu Hui asked again this time, and she repeated it all over again.

On New Year's Eve, the children were with her, and several mothers were in the second-floor cafeteria watching TV while wrapping dumplings. The children also performed their own programs, and the entire second floor was filled with laughter and joy, with children's laughter everywhere.

Later, they brought the cooked dumplings to the table, prepared bowls and chopsticks for the children, and were about to eat the dumplings. After a while, they smelled something burning. She thought it was because she forgot to turn off the stove when cooking the dumplings, so she ran into the kitchen to check. She found that there was no fire on the stove, thinking that maybe the old electrical wire had burned somewhere.

She then checked everywhere and later saw a bright light on the first floor. She opened the door of the second floor just as she was about to go down, only to see that a big fire had broken out on the first floor. In a hurry, she closed the door and asked one of them to call the fire department.

She picked up the mop and curtains from the cafeteria, wet them with water, and blocked all the gaps in the doors on the second floor. Then she let the children hide inside the cafeteria. She tore her clothes into small pieces, moistened them with water, and had the children cover their mouths and noses. The other mothers followed her example, comforting the children while waiting for the fire department to arrive.

They just kept waiting there, fortunately the big fire did not reach the second floor, she and the children were only frightened a bit and did not suffer much harm.
