Chapter Fifteen: Register of Convicts
When Qin Zhong saw this figure, he had already realized that this time the figure was not with them, nor was it an illusion. The figure hung its head low, with short hair, and its arms were tightly grasped on the armrests of the electric chair. On the body of this person, there seemed to be more than a dozen wounds.
"What kind of person are you?" Qin Zhong asked, then suddenly turned his head and glanced at the big tooth behind him, who seemed to still be recovering from the electric shock.
Just after Qin Zhong finished speaking, the big tooth suddenly lowered its head and replied in a drawn-out tone: "What I am is not important, what's important is that after decades of work here, someone has finally arrived, hehehe!"
Qin Zhong glanced at Da Ya sideways, then suddenly pounced on him, one hand supporting his chin and tightly pinching his jawbone. Immediately after, he turned to Da Ya's back, the other hand slapping the back of his neck: "Come out!"
After Qin Zhong finished this series of actions, Meng Na finally pulled out the cross hanging on her chest and was about to use it to gesture in front of Da Ya. Just then, she saw Qin Zhong turn Da Ya's head behind him, his eyes emitting a strong and fierce gaze that stared at Da Ya's eyes, saying: "Alright?"
"Huh, Director, it's all right!" Daxin shook his head: "What just happened?"
"Hmm, it seems that this place is indeed strange, there's no normal place since I entered." He turned his head to look at the electric chair again, but the figure from earlier had already disappeared. The entire room had returned to calmness, but on the wall behind the electric chair hung a notebook. Qin Zhong borrowed the light of the lamp and in the midst of the roaring sound of the generator, he saw that the notebook clearly wrote: "Punishment Record Book".
He took the book down, flipped through a few pages, and although many of the words on top were written in Japanese, most of them were still written in Chinese characters. It seemed that these Chinese characters had been specially translated. The book introduced people who had been executed in an electric chair, and what surprised Qin Zhong was that each time they were executed, the records of the time, voltage, and current were very detailed, and there were even some chemical symbols at the back, which should be the names of some drugs.
"Meng Na, come over and take a look at these symbols, do you recognize them?" Qin Zhong held up his notebook for Meng Na to see.
Mona shook her head: "I don't recognize it, I only know a few of the symbols inside."
Chemistry is a very annoying subject for Qin Zhong, which is also the reason why he can choose to study history major in a university with only dozens of students, many reasons are that he really doesn't like these things.
"Director, doesn't that fake foreigner understand these things?" Da Ya's words reminded Qin Zhong.
Qin Zhong snorted: "Hmph, that tactless guy probably doesn't know whether to leave or not. I reckon this time the lights are on and he's probably at the door."
Qin Zhong and a few others sandwiched this booklet and left the power generation room. Before leaving, Daxia locked both buckets of diesel oil into the generator. According to his initial estimate, this generator would at least be able to continuously supply electricity for several days without any problems. Only then did he follow Qin Zhong out of the house.
But as soon as a few people came out of the house, Mark was nowhere to be seen, leaving only a few cigarette butts on the ground that had already been extinguished.
"It's strange, where can this guy go? Here..." Qin Zhong stepped out of the door and found that all the lights in the corridor had lit up. In the distance of the corridor, several forks were separated, and each fork seemed to lead to a different place. Behind them, there were two more forks. Even with the light on, it was impossible to see what existed at the other end of the fork."
The old man's lower jaw dropped, his two big teeth chattering up and down: "Director...this..."
"Qin Zhong, what kind of place is this?"
"I don't know either, but I remember the book said it was very simple and also said that this place is very mysterious. Probably many unknown things have happened here."
Just as a few people were discussing the terrain here, a voice came from a fork in the road: "These guys are really poor, not even a pendant is worth taking. Alas, it seems that this trip was in vain. I really don't know what those few guys want to come in and do!"
As the footsteps approached, a tall figure stopped in front of Qin Zhong.
"Hey, how far have you gone by yourself?" Qin Zhong asked.
Mark returned, seeing several people coming out, with a seemingly knotted expression, saying: "Ah, not far away, I saw several corpses, it's really depressing. The corpses here are all very strange without any decorations, and there's nothing in the consecutive rooms."
"Hmph, I didn't bring you here to go treasure hunting, but to help with the investigation. If you keep being so annoying, we'll just split up and leave each other alone, don't bother us again." Qin Zhong really didn't give Mark any face.
Mark's straightforwardness as a Westerner was truly enough to be said, Qin Zhong said so to him, he didn't take it to heart, but instead thickened his skin and said: "Hey, I just said a few words of complaint, actually I'm still very willing to walk with you guys."
"Alright, I'll give you a chance to prove yourself. Label all the chemical symbols in this notebook and tell me what they represent. I'll check later." Qin Zhong had been waiting for Mark to say exactly that, so it was only natural that he would ask him to identify the chemical symbols.
Mark scratched his head, casually took the notebook from Qin Zhong's hand, and muttered a sentence as he saw the chemical symbols from front to back, what that symbol represents, one by one, until he reached the last page. As soon as he finished reading, his expression changed greatly: "My god, there really is such an insulating drug in this world?"
"What? Insulin medication?"
"Yes, that's right. After a person is injected with a certain dose of this drug, they will reach super insulation within a certain period of time. Even if it's tens of thousands of volts or an ultra-strong current, it may not be able to electrocute the person." Mark seemed to be talking very professionally.
Qin Zhong also felt a sense of wonder as he listened, but when he recalled the chemical formulas Mark had mentioned earlier, they were almost all about toxic gases, and from the middle to the end, they were about the formulations of insulating drugs. This was Qin Zhong's memory power - after listening just once, what he wanted to remember, he really couldn't forget.
After this definition appeared, Qin Zhong suddenly felt an unbearable hatred in his heart. He hated that the Japanese had achieved many successes in science and technology, especially in chemical synthesis, toxic agents, medicine and other fields, which were largely based on human experiments conducted on living people in China.
At this moment, he was more concerned about exposing the truth to the world. He took the booklet from Mark's hand and stuffed it into his pocket, his expression solemn: "This is ironclad evidence!"
"Hmm!" Mark, this fake foreign devil, might never understand the kind of feelings Qin Zhong had in his heart, one was for his nation, and one was for his family.
"Whoosh!" A shadow disappeared from a fork in the road, and its speed was so fast that everyone present did not see what it was.
Qin Zhong was now on high alert, from the figure earlier to this shadow now, he immediately turned his head to take a look at everyone present, all were fine, only then did he feel relieved: "Let's go, we'll search this floor thoroughly and see what the devils did here in the past. Mark, lead the way, take us through the places you went earlier again."
"Go again?"
"Right!"
"Those skeletons all have energy, it seems like their energy hasn't been exhausted yet." Mark knew about these things after all.
Qin Zhong's mouth slightly curled up: "If energy isn't exhausted, that means there's still a possibility of becoming a ghost or monster?"
"This... of course!" Mark wasn't actually the kind of person who got excited when he saw ghosts, at first he took action for Mona's sake, who wouldn't want to have one less thing to worry about? But Qin Zhong just had to go looking for trouble, and Mark really couldn't say anything more.
Qin Zhong glanced back at a fork in the road and found that on the damp ground, there seemed to be some footprints. This kind of mark shouldn't normally appear here, which made him have a special idea. He quickly walked towards the direction where the figure had flashed by earlier. When he arrived, his eyes suddenly lit up, because on the path leading into the fork in the road, a terrible scene appeared.
