Chapter 14: The Pursuer

  Chapter Fourteen: The Pursuer

The sound came too suddenly, startling the two people, and they quickly separated. Linglong was stunned standing there, while Yanfeng quickly judged the source of the sound, one hand pulling Linglong under the sofa, and the other hand taking out a gun.

"Go wake up Rong Yi, the two of you stay in the room, whoever comes don't open the door!" He instructed neatly, then lightly flipped out from the back window.

The voice just now came from behind the house, where there is a small vegetable garden, and behind it is a low wall. The voice couldn't tell whether it was male or female, very hoarse, and full of resentment.

The moonlight was dim, but Yan Feng still saw a black shadow flash before his eyes and agilely flipped over the low wall.

"Halt!" He shouted loudly and chased after him without hesitation.

All I saw was that the person in front had a tall and large build, obviously a man, and he ran extremely fast, not looking back as he kept running forward. Despite Yan Feng's desperate chase, he still couldn't close the distance between them.

He chased him out for a while, and saw the black shadow turn around and drill into the bushes. When Yanfeng also drilled in, he couldn't even see the other's figure, and in the midst of the tall grass that was as high as one person, there were rustling sounds all around.

Yan Feng looked around, only to see the grass thicket in the direction of the small river shaking violently, so he ran towards that direction. The leaves of this unknown wild grass were sharp, and he ran too quickly, the leaves ruthlessly slapped his face and arms, leaving streaks of blood, but he didn't care about these at all, gritting his teeth and continuing to move forward, determined to catch the person who was eavesdropping outside the window.

That person is likely to be the insider of the whole case!

  One meter, two meters

Finally, that black shadow appeared in front of him again. The black shadow didn't know if it was tired or intentionally waiting for him, and stopped its footsteps not far ahead.

The swallow wind took another step closer, and the figure's back was about to come into view. However, he suddenly fell forward with a straight body, followed by a "splash" sound, as if he had jumped into the river.

Swallow Wind's swimming skills were quite good. He didn't hesitate, and with a few swift steps, he prepared to jump into the river as well. But without warning, a human figure suddenly appeared in front of him!

It was too sudden, and in the emergency, he had no time to think. Instinctively, he desperately braked his feet and barely avoided a collision.

"Who is it!" He raised his gun at the thing in front of him.

No one answered. There was only the sound of the wind blowing through the grass. Under the faint moonlight, it turned out to be just a scarecrow! A slightly shorter and fatter scarecrow than him!

But this is not a wheat field, where did the scarecrow come from? And how did this scarecrow suddenly stand up?

He gripped his gun tightly and took a step forward, observing the strange object up close. Unlike ordinary scarecrows made from straw tied to a pole, this was a solid, human-shaped figure with arms and legs, standing in front of him in a large character shape. Its face wore a pair of sunglasses, with a black patch under its chin, only its mouth hanging open. It looked as if it were mocking him.

How is it so similar to the crime suspect they locked down - Cheese!

He was shocked, but at this moment a flash of white light flashed in the mouth of the scarecrow. The swallow felt a pain in his neck and fell into the grass.

A swallow floats. There is no landing around, nor does it know the direction, it just floats weakly in the water with its four limbs.

The water was extremely cold and extremely soft, not only taking away all the heat from his body, but also seemingly penetrating every pore of his, merging with him as one, making it impossible for him to escape!

"You are my earth, you have me in you, I have you in me, you can't leave me." That familiar voice sounded again: "You can't fall in love with someone else."

"I don't. I can't love." Yanfeng smiled bitterly, feeling that she was like the water, omnipresent, and even her voice came from all directions, including within his own body. "You've fallen in love with Cheng Linglong." The water suddenly became colder, turning into sharp ice shards that pierced Yanfeng's surroundings, making him feel as if he had been shot by a thousand arrows.

He let out a pained cry, but then felt a warm and gentle hand stroking his face, making all his pain disappear without a trace.

"You promised me you wouldn't fall in love with someone else! I'm so miserable in hell, if it weren't for your protection, they would dig out my heart and cut me into pieces. I couldn't bear it, I couldn't bear it!" She suddenly burst into tears, revealing a face covered in fresh blood in front of Yan Feng.

His skin was covered with quills, and every drop of blood that fell brought a quill with it, carrying threads of flesh. In an instant, the face that had been indistinct became like a skull wrapped in a piece of lace.

She let out a loud, mournful cry, sharp enough to pierce Yan Feng's heart! "I love you, I swear to only love you!" he shouted out, suddenly embracing something that was floating towards him in the water.

"You said you rarely have nightmares!" A soft and gentle voice came from his arms.

Yan Feng was taken aback, slowly releasing his arm. In front of him, however, was Ling Long. This reminded him of that dream, and he hastily retreated backward, moving further away from Ling Long.

"Look at you, all sweaty." Linglong gently stroked Yanfeng's forehead, making him feel a moment of dizziness, as if he had returned to his dream, where the gentle hand that comforted him was exactly this feeling.

"Where is this?" He averted his face, not wanting to indulge in that tenderness. He had endless nightmares, things women wanted, he couldn't give!

"Hospital." Linglong suppressed the heartache in her heart and asked: "Did you dream of your girlfriend?"

When she heard him say "I love you, I swear to only love you!", although she knew it was just a dream, she still felt sweet and loved listening to it. But when he showed a distant expression as if wanting to draw a line with her, she got heartbroken.

"Yes." Yan Feng replied straightforwardly, "Her name is Wula, she was my first love, she went missing ten years ago, and a month ago I saw her corpse, it was the one under your bed."

Linglong was taken aback and didn't expect this answer.

  "I'm sorry, I—"

"It doesn't matter! It was a long time ago. However, I only love her and no one else."

"She's really lucky. If I died, and there was a man who remembered me like that, I think I would be very happy, very at peace."

Happiness and peace? Is that so? Why does he feel that Ula is always so contradictory, painful, and desperately trying to grasp him, as if demanding repayment of a blood debt?

"Are you going to avenge her?" Ling said: "I'll help you. If you need any help, just find me. As long as I can do it, I will definitely help you."

"Three of her classmates also went missing with her." Yanzhong regained his composure: "This is not just about avenging her, but about unraveling a decade-long mystery."

"Is there a red maple leaf-shaped birthmark on her left rib?" Ling asked.

"How did you know?" Yan Feng was extremely puzzled, asking about a section that wasn't in the record.

"That day I had a dream that there was a woman crawling under my bed. But when I asked, I was too nervous and forgot to say it. Hopefully, it didn't cause you any trouble."

Yan Feng shook his head. What puzzled him the most was that since Wu La had died just a month ago, why hadn't he looked for him in ten years? Assuming his dream wasn't some kind of psychological issue, then who was it that he dreamed of?
