Chapter 10: Second Terror

  Chapter 10: Second Fright

Linglong never thought she would see Yanfeng again.

After that incident, although they left a contact address for her to provide evidence at any time, the police never looked for her again.

She felt a little sad and disappointed about this, because from the moment Yan Feng put his shoes on her feet, he had taken root in her heart, although she also understood that it was just an ordinary concern of a police officer for a citizen.

In the midst of malice, in that state of terrified helplessness, it's only natural to fall for a man who is kind and warm towards oneself. Although she knows this is an immature psychological state, she can't help but think of him involuntarily.

It's just that this thought has been cut off for a month, and later it became a helpless despair. I never thought there would be an opportunity to turn the tide, especially in such a situation.

She did as usual after work, casually made some dinner for herself and then went online for a while before going to sleep.

However, when she fell asleep in the middle of the night, she suddenly heard a crisp sound coming from the balcony side, as if someone was knocking on her window, and it was knocked very urgently, as if there was something important to find her.

  Dong dong dong――dong dong dong――?

This made Ling suddenly wake up, since the last time she went to Jingxian for a trip, she had been sleeping very lightly and not steadily. Although in the company, Song Xin no longer bothered her, but it didn't make her life any better.

Her home is an old-fashioned building, but it's on the third floor. How could someone knock on the window? And it was the window of the balcony?

In this case, she had no choice but to remain silent and still, with all her senses on high alert, feeling a faint, flickering light outside the balcony, as if someone was pacing back and forth in mid-air, hesitating whether or not to burst into her room.

"Are you there?" the "person" outside the balcony suddenly said, with a sharp and fine voice, which was a woman. Although she was still some distance away from Linglong, her voice seemed to be right next to her ear.

Ling was so frightened that her heart almost stopped beating. She didn't dare to answer, and she pinched herself hard, despairingly discovering that this wasn't a nightmare or an illusion.

Because he didn't get an answer, the person floating outside the balcony seemed to be getting impatient and suddenly jumped onto the balcony. He started fumbling for the door handle, trying to open it and come in. From the shadow reflected on the window screen, it was a headless man. One hand grasped the door handle and shook it hard, while the other arm held a round, long-haired object that was clearly a human head.

"Are you there? Are you there?" The voice outside was still a woman's, it was unclear whether it came from a standing body or the hair of someone being held in an embrace.

Linglong's whole body was covered in cold sweat, and she didn't dare to answer. "They" seemed to be very angry at Linglong's non-response, almost frantically banging on the door, and were about to burst in!

"Get out!" She finally couldn't help but scream! At the same time, she quickly turned on the desk lamp.

The light dispelled part of the darkness, and the outside noise stopped. Because there was light in the room, the shadow on the curtains could no longer be seen. However, she felt that the "person" on the balcony hadn't left, but was standing there, peeking in at her.

Fear gripped her heart tightly, she didn't know what to do, and could only repeat in her mind: Don't come in! Don't come in!

"Let's go in!" The person on the balcony seemed to have heard her inner voice, and after a few seconds of silence, began speaking again, "No need for a big place, just a little bit of space is fine, sleeping under your bed, not speaking, never speaking."

"No!" Ling's voice was hoarse from shouting, hoping to scare them away and also to call the neighbors, but this time she was met with complete silence, both inside and outside the house were in a silent standoff.

After a while, a buzzing sound came from under the pillow, almost shattering Ling's fragile nerves. She gasped in cold air, frightened and shrinking further into the corner of the bed, but felt that the bed was also moving.

Have they come? Have they crawled under her bed? She thought in terror, feeling the pillow beside her shaking non-stop, as if something was struggling underneath, and the buzzing sound never stopped.

She was driven to the point of no return by the numbness that came from beside her, and she suddenly opened the pillow, only to see a purple-red thing crawling forward on the light blue bed sheet. It was her phone, but this didn't make her feel any better, because she clearly remembered turning off her phone before sleep!

The phone, set to vibrate mode, buzzed and crawled forward, as if it wouldn't stop until she answered. The normally sleek and stylish device now seemed like a terrifying insect, deliberately making its way towards her palm.

She grabbed the phone, feeling it was burning like fire, a strange sensation spreading from her palm to her heart, as if she were holding a caterpillar or a snake, and she couldn't wait to throw it away, but couldn't shake it off.

"Who are you, stop bothering me!" The incoming call on the phone screen showed zero.

"You deserve to die! I want you to go to death!" A woman's voice full of hatred said, word by word.

The woman's words were particularly frightening, as if a knife had directly pierced Linglong's heart, stimulating her to jump out of the quilt and grab the scissors from the drawer. She stood in the room, wildly swinging them around, already on the verge of collapse. Because as soon as she picked up the phone, she understood that the voice was not coming from the phone, but from within the room itself. Holding the scissors, she ran wildly around the house, checking every possible hiding place - the bathroom, kitchen, and closet - searching for that malicious woman!

  But no!

"Idiot!" The woman cursed her with a soft, muffled voice, as if it came from a very deep place or within the walls.

As she thought of this, Linglong suddenly looked around and saw two black shadows on the wall! There was only one person in the room, but there were two shadows! One was herself, holding a pair of scissors trembling; The other was an identical shadow, as if another self standing beside her, at this moment the second shadow was reaching out to strangle her neck!

Linglong let out a loud cry and turned around to run away!

However, she ran, the two shadows on the wall stuck to her tightly as she walked. In a panic, she turned in another direction, but still couldn't shake off those shadows that laughed shrilly without stopping, forcing her and "them" - sometimes long, sometimes short - to chase each other in the dim, uncertain light, making her feel for the first time in her life like something was stuck to her bones and couldn't be shaken off.

She gradually realized that the change in the shadow was created by the lamp light, and suddenly woke up: The second shadow is using her own shadow to harm her, as long as she doesn't have a shadow in the room, the second shadow will lose its attack point.

From the lamp's point of view, she had to retreat to the balcony in order to thoroughly make her shadow disappear. But was there something frightening waiting for her outside the balcony door?!

Just as she was hesitating, the faint shadow that had receded due to the angle of view swooped in again. Although it didn't touch Ling's physical body, it still made her feel a thread of piercing pain, as if a hard thorn had pierced through her. She let out a miserable cry and, no longer caring about anything, rushed onto the balcony.

Inside the door, the Shadow Killer had vanished; outside, there was no headless person waiting for her, but Linglong was still frightened and felt that the air was filled with a tempting aroma, which made her slowly creep to the balcony edge and look down.

This side of the house has a sunny balcony, and below it happens to have an uncovered trash can, so when she looked out, she just happened to see inside the trash can.

A man's corpse lay in a trash can, with his feet sticking out into the air because the can was too small. One of his hands also rested outside the can. His neck was empty, but he held a woman's head with long hair in his arms!

There were no streetlights on this side of the building, and it was so far away that Linglong, who was a little nearsighted, could see clearly, including the expression on the woman's head in the corpse's arms - she had originally closed her eyes, but at the moment Linglong saw her, suddenly opened her eyes, mouth moving, as if saying something to her.

Linglong let out a loud cry, ducked down and squatted in the corner, not daring to look down again. Since she was on the balcony when she cried out, she finally woke up the neighbor next door.

"Xiao Cheng, what's going on?" The male neighbor poked his head over from the adjacent balcony, bleary-eyed but also suspicious.

"Call the police!" Linglong looked at this great savior and said with all her might: "There's a dead person in the trash can downstairs!"

After finishing the sentence, she could no longer hold on and fainted. When she woke up, the first thing she saw was Yanfeng lying on her bed, fast asleep.

  ...Commercial break...?
