Chapter 9: The Black Cat Circles the Corpse
Li Jian Tian called me and asked me to hurry over.
Upon arrival at the scene of the case, a forensic doctor was conducting a preliminary autopsy.
The scene was discovered at noon, as the four people in this dormitory did not attend class early in the morning. When the students from the neighboring dormitory returned after finishing their classes, they found that the door of the room was still closed. Through the peephole, they saw a corpse hanging from the ceiling and immediately reported the case.
"Yang Guo, can you see anything?" Li Jian Tian asked from beside him.
I shook my head.
"Preliminary identification is suicide, the time of death was last night at midnight. Judging from the ligature marks on the neck of the deceased, there were no signs of intense struggle before death, and it's possible that they belonged to unconscious death. This kind of unconscious death is very likely to be somnambulism." The forensic doctor spoke up at this time.
"Are you saying she killed herself while sleepwalking?" Li Jian Tian asked in surprise.
"It's very likely." The forensic expert replied.
"There's another major discovery, all four corpses have a string of golden bells on their ankles." The forensic expert added.
At this moment, a strange gust of wind suddenly blew from the balcony, making me shiver involuntarily. A shrill cry pierced the heavy atmosphere, and a black shadow darted towards the corpse.
It was a black cat, its eyes fixed intently on the corpse. The dark eyes seemed to gleam with an eerie light, and it didn't seem afraid of strangers, but just kept staring at the body as it moved around. Suddenly, all the hair on the cat's body stood up, its mouth opened wide revealing sharp fangs, and its front legs rose up like a large bat.
Taking a closer look, the cat's eyes were bleeding, two streams of bright red blood flowing from the outer corners of its eyes to the edge of its nose, and then it stumbled and staggered towards the balcony, as if trying to escape with all its might. Its four legs trembled and collapsed, and it fell into a corner against the wall.
The black cat is dead.
At that time, I remembered a saying from my hometown, after a person dies, there may be a breath left in their chest. If it is dispersed by a cat or mouse, they may pretend to come back to life, also known as "cheating death".
My spine chilled as I looked at the corpse on the ground, which seemed to be staring at me with an air of being about to revive. Another gust of wind came and blew the clothes of the corpse, making it seem like the corpse had come back to life and was now baring its teeth and claws at me.
"What's on your mind?" Li Jian Tian patted me on the shoulder.
I was startled.
"No, nothing?" I woke up with a start from my reverie.
I pulled Li Jian Tian to one side and whispered: "Did you just see that black cat? How did it circle around the corpse a few times before dying?"
"What black cat? I didn't see anything." Li Jian Tian looked puzzled.
"I feel like something is going to happen, what will they do with those corpses?" I said, looking at Li Jian Tian.
"The body was sent back to the police station's morgue for further autopsy and then notified the family to claim it."
I have a bad premonition in my heart, which is very strong.
"Director, I suggest these four corpses be cremated immediately, lest they undergo rigor mortis." I said hastily.
Li Jian Tian furrowed his brow, he hadn't seen the black cat die, so naturally he didn't understand the severity of the situation.
Li Jian Tian took a step forward and said slowly, "This doesn't follow the rules. The deceased's body is not something that the police department has the right to handle. It needs to go through the consent of the family."
I thought maybe I was just overthinking it, after all, it's just a superstition of rural people.
I spread out my hands and looked at the corpses lying in the dormitory, maybe I was just thinking too much.
Li Jian Tian brought his men to the adjacent dormitory and asked them one by one, but they didn't hear or see anything, and no useful clues were found.
The scene investigation is complete, and Li Jian Tian is ready to take the police team back.
As he was about to leave, Li Jian Tian said to me: "Yang Guo, this female dormitory hanging case is probably related to the Ghost Tomb, we can't escape now. We're being led by the nose, I've asked someone to help you take a leave of absence, for the time being, just follow me and assist in the investigation."
I readily agreed. Recently there haven't been many exams, and at the police station, I can definitely get more information, maybe I can find some clues about Chang Ai Ai.
At this time, a large wave of beauties walked out of the car, wearing police uniforms, with fiery figures, twisting their buttocks step by step, leaving people's imagination running wild.
"Li Ju, is this the informant you were talking about?" The clear and sweet voice immediately drew my attention away from the ball I was staring at, and I quickly looked up.
I feel my saliva is hanging at the corner of my mouth, not only "balls" are beautiful, but people are even more beautiful. A authentic melon seed face, fiery red lips, facial contours are very clear, giving a strong visual impact.
"Let me introduce you, this is Yang Guo, a student from the Medical College." Li Jian Tian spoke up.
"Hello, I'm Zhang Xinyu." She blinked and smiled at me.
"You, hello, sister you are so beautiful!" I just came back to myself, and I didn't even know how this sentence popped out.
Li Jian Tian burst out laughing, Zhang Xin Yu also smiled with pursed lips.
"Director Li, everything is ready, just waiting for the team to return." Zhang Xinyu said.
"Alright, Yang Guo, come back to the police station with us." Li Jian Tian said to me.
I nodded and followed them onto the police car.
The police car cleared the way for the hearse, with sirens blaring all along the route.
I listened to the sound of the police siren, and the scene of a black cat circling around a corpse kept emerging in my mind. The whole way, I felt particularly oppressed, occasionally looking back at the car transporting the body, seeing wisps of black smoke rising from the top of the vehicle.
"Director Li, I've been feeling that something is off, and I'm sure something will happen." I frowned tightly.
"Yang Guo, what did you sense?" Li Jian Tian asked anxiously.
"The car carrying the corpse kept emitting black smoke, with a very heavy yin energy."
At this time, the car had just driven to a tree-lined avenue that was completely shaded by large trees without a single ray of sunlight, giving the feeling of suddenly entering dusk from daytime. The dense shadows of the trees quickly flew over the top of the car, and suddenly the sky seemed to darken, with only a faint light seeping through the two sides of the road. Under this eerie situation, there was only a loud "bang" sound, and the hearse got a flat tire.
"Notify all teams to stop and check the situation immediately." Li Jian Tian shouted loudly into the walkie-talkie.
The two police officers who stopped near the hearse immediately ran to the side of the hearse for inspection. They opened the rear door of the car, and as soon as they pulled out the latch and opened the door, a pair of hands stretched out, grasping one of their necks, suspending their body in mid-air, and let out a scream.
Before he could even react, his throat was pinched shut, and blood was squeezed out of his throat, one mouthful at a time, dripping onto the ground.
The policeman next to him opened his eyes wide and looked at the carriage in horror.
"There's a ghost! Someone's coming!" The policeman shouted loudly while pulling out his gun from his waist.
The gun had not been drawn, and the policeman was stabbed through the head by a corpse with one palm, blood suddenly sprayed out, leaving a blood hole, and fell to the ground dead.
At this time, Li Jian Tian and I both heard the police officer's call. Li Jian Tian immediately pulled out the gun on his body, telling me to follow him, using the vehicle as cover, slowly approaching the hearse step by step.
"Director, two of our men are already dead. I saw the corpses kill them." A police officer who witnessed the corpse killing from a distance shouted in terror on the walkie-talkie.
"Everyone, remain calm. Li Ming and A Dong will take action from the left flank to control the scene. Chen Yu and Liu Chen, you two go evacuate the crowd, ensure the safety of people around. Zhang Xinyu immediately requests support from the headquarters. Li Jian Tian quickly gives orders."
Just then, Li Jian Tian told me to follow him closely because I didn't have a gun with me and he needed to ensure my safety.
We arrived at the front of the hearse, opened the driver's door, and a corpse rolled out from the car. The driver of the hearse had been murdered.
Li Jian Tian gestured with his hands for Li Ming and A Dong to come from the left flank, indicating that they should find cover and wait for an opportunity to act.
We walked from the front of the car to the back, Li Jian Tian aimed his gun at the half-closed hearse door, a forward gesture ordering Ah Dong to open the half-closed door. Suddenly, a chill swept over us, and four corpses stood neatly in the carriage, as if they had sensed human presence. Their eyes, which seemed to be filled with dead air, stared straight at us, and together they jumped down to the ground.
"Fire." Li Jian Tian gave the order hastily.
All I could hear were a few deafening gunshots, the corpses walking in front of us were hit in the head and chest, bullets pierced through their bodies, leaving bullet holes on them, but it didn't stop them from getting closer, the bullets had no effect on them, just like a bunch of zombies, they kept coming towards us.
This made me think of an American movie - "Resident Evil", where zombies infected with the biochemical virus would bite and devour humans inch by inch like a maggot in the bone. Thinking about this, I couldn't help but feel a chill run down my spine.
"Retreat." Li Jian Tian saw the situation was unfavorable and immediately gave the order to retreat.
I had been hiding behind Li Jian Tian, and I followed him as he retreated to the side of a large tree. I watched tensely as the corpses approached step by step. Suddenly, there was a major discovery - on top of each corpse's head, there was a thread. They were like puppets being controlled. Were they being manipulated? This thread probably could only be seen with my eyes, I thought to myself.
"They're probably being controlled by something," I said to Li Jian Tian.
Just as the corpses were about to reach our side, a crisp bell sound came from not far away. The corpses collectively turned around, four flying symbols flew in mid-air, and a person appeared in our line of sight.
