Chapter 8: Zhang Baos Manner of Death

Chapter 8 Zhang Bao's Death Method

After saying that, Zhang Bao slammed the book shut and rushed out of the door. This was not what I had imagined would happen. I really hadn't expected him to think it was all my doing. Wang Hui and I quickly followed him out.

"Zhang Bao, listen to me, whether you believe it or not, this is all true. As for who told me, I can't tell you, but this must not be what I did. We are good brothers and always have been. Now it's July 29th, there are still three days until August 1st. These three days we will spend together, the three of us brothers, in Rongshu Village without going out. It's fundamentally impossible to come into contact with any vehicles, maybe we can crack the case."

Zhang Bao sneered and said: "Thanks a lot, but I don't need it."

"Zhang Bao!" I shouted loudly, "There are only three days left, will it happen or not? It'll be revealed in just three days, all we need is three more days..."

"Alright, for the sake of our brotherly bond in the past, I'll agree to meet you at Rongshu Village, but I won't choose to be with you. If nothing happens to me after three days, then we're not brothers anymore."

This time Zhang Bao left and I didn't stop him, I just stared blankly at his footsteps in a daze.

After watching him walk away, Wang Hui asked me: "Xiao Long, is what you said really true?"

"Of course it's true, don't you believe me? I have no need to deceive you, we've known each other for so many years." I asked Wang Hui back.

Wang Hui nodded and said, "Although what you just said is a bit science fiction, I still believe you, because you have no need to scare us, besides, your death time is also recorded on it."

  "Thank you Wang Hui!"

Hearing Wang Hui's words, I still felt a thrill of excitement. She smiled and said, "Alright, you've been tired for so long, go back to my place to rest."

The two of us returned to Wang Hui's home, took a short rest, and waited for the arrival of dawn the next day.

I've completely lost track of time now, I don't know when it was that I fell asleep on the kang, let alone say that I'm heartless, mainly because these past few days have been really exhausting.

The next morning, Wang Hui cooked a small plate of boiled eggs and said to me: "Xiao Long, get up and eat the eggs."

"Hmm!" I responded with a murmur.

After getting up, I first washed my face and then ate two eggs. Wang Hui said to me: "Xiao Long, I didn't sleep at all yesterday until dawn."

"Why? Is it because of what happened yesterday?"

Wang Hui let out a sigh of relief and said to me, "We accidentally killed teacher Wang Xiaoya eight years ago. The things written on this note are about her life and death, as well as recent events. I feel like something is off somewhere. Have you been possessed by an evil spirit? You might have seen some strange people and strange things, but those things aren't necessarily true."

After he finished saying these words, I was stunned. Wang Hui's words to me were indeed a problem. Since I came to Rongshu Village, strange things have been happening all the time, and I inexplicably entered Fengmen Village. Is it possible that all of this is my illusion?

"But you saw it yourself yesterday, we did find that book in that room. It's written clearly on it!"

Wang Hui furrowed his brow and said, "I reckon when we killed Wang Xiaoya back then, there were others who saw it too. As for that note, it was just a prank."

"You don't think that note was really written by me, do you?"

"Of course not, how could you possibly do something so boring? I'm talking about others, that was written by someone else."

I didn't speak up because at first I also felt that someone was intentionally messing with us, but everything that happened in Fengmen Village seemed so real. And the bloodstains...

"Wang Hui, what you said makes some sense. How about this: let's wait until after August 1st and see if Zhang Bao is fine and nothing happens. If that's the case, then we'll just drop it. But if something really does happen, then..."

On the 30th, Zhang Bao was at home and didn't want to see us. I knew what he was thinking in his heart. But on the 31st, something strange happened. When we went to look for Zhang Bao again, his family told us that Zhang Bao had left, school was about to start, and he had gone back to school.

"This is really a surprise for me, I've never heard of high school starting in August before. No nonsense, take Wang Hui and go find Zhang Bao directly."

The place where he reads is a small county town, not too far from Rongshu Village. We came directly to his school and learned about the situation from the gatekeeper that this school was indeed making up classes on this day. It seems that Zhang Bao didn't intentionally want to avoid us, but it's really a strange school that chose to make up classes on this day. However, this is not the main point; now we should go find Zhang Bao.

After going to his class, I found that there were still quite a few students making up lessons. However, I soon found Zhang Bao because he was in the front row, and Wang Hui and I walked over directly.

"What are you two doing here?" Zhang Bao still seemed a bit angry and didn't give us a good face.

"It's nothing, we just wanted to come over and see you."

"I'm not dead yet, come mourn for me?"

Although Zhang Bao didn't give us a good attitude, at noon we still had lunch together in the cafeteria. After finishing, he said to us: "The class won't start until tonight, anyway you two think I'll definitely die tomorrow, why don't we go to the internet cafe and play League of Legends? Wang Hui will treat, how about it?"

Wang Hui looked at me and I nodded. Now, for me, anything goes. I just want to verify whether the things written in that book will happen tomorrow or not.

The road conditions here are familiar to Zhang Bao, so he has been leading the way in front. After walking out of the school gate and crossing a road, we happened to encounter a traffic intersection, where we met a red light. Wang Hui and I both stopped involuntarily, and Zhang Bao said helplessly: "What are you doing? Red lights are for cars to see, not for people to see. You're acting like a good citizen."

After he finished speaking, he walked forward directly. I just wanted to say something, but at this moment, a thrilling scene unfolded. A truck came from the opposite side with a speed of over sixty miles per hour.

"Quickly get out of the way, Zhang Bao!" I loudly shouted.

As soon as the words were spoken, a loud crash was heard and Zhang Bao was knocked flying. The large truck continued to drive on, followed closely by several small cars behind it. None of them noticed that the truck had hit someone, so when Zhang Bao fell back down to the ground, he was immediately crushed again by several people...

  "Zhang Bao!"

  "Zhang Bao..."

Everything happened so suddenly that I didn't have time to react. Wang Hui and I both shouted his name loudly and ran towards the middle of the road, at which point all vehicles had stopped and everyone was frightened by this sudden occurrence.

The car in front was covered in blood, the driver was bald and stared at us in shock. We eventually found Zhang Bao's body under another car, his face was unrecognizable, with blood and flesh blurred together, just like a ghost from a horror movie.

"Zhang Bao!" I rushed to his side and pulled him up with force. After a few minutes, a group of police officers rushed over and asked me, "What is your relationship with him?"

  "I am his friend!"

"Alright then, you'll be assisting us with our investigation!" said a policeman wearing a large badge.

A female police officer next to him took out a notebook and muttered: "On August 1, 2014, a traffic accident was found at the Shunfeng Traffic Station, and the deceased was hit by a large truck."

I wasn't thinking that way, but when I heard the date, both Wang Hui and I changed our expressions. I swallowed a mouthful of saliva and asked: "Comrade policeman, what did you just say? Today is August 1st?"

"That's right, August 1st!" The policewoman replied.

I exchanged a bewildered glance with Wang Hui, because in our impression today should be July 31st, how did it become the first? But the police wouldn't lie to us, my mind was a complete blank.
