Chapter 1: A New Beginning

  Looking at Cao Ming in front of me, I feel a bit uncomfortable. All along, I have regarded him as my best friend, but unexpectedly he is a policeman.

  I nodded and replied: "It must be my girlfriend."

  The fat nurse burst out laughing as soon as I finished speaking and said: "The patient inside can be your grandmother, let alone your girlfriend."

  "What do you mean by this?" I asked, taken aback.

  The nurse stopped laughing and said, "There's an old lady in here who was suddenly hospitalized with a heart attack yesterday. How could she be your girlfriend? You're killing me!" The fat nurse burst out laughing again.

  Just as I was feeling embarrassed, one of the two policemen who brought me in rushed over, looking apologetic, and said to me: "Sorry, we made a mistake. This isn't your girlfriend's wardroom, your girlfriend's wardroom is that way." Then he pulled me along and left.

  After hearing what the policeman said, the fat nurse laughed even harder. So much so that she could still be heard from a great distance, her disgusting laughter echoing through the air.

  Standing in front of Feifei's bed, watching the ventilator working, my heart was slightly relieved.

  At this moment a doctor walked in from outside, and I hastily grabbed him and asked: "Is the patient past the critical period?"

  The doctor took a glance at Feifei lying on the bed and said: "She has passed the critical period, but she still needs to be hospitalized for observation. What is your relationship with her?"

  I hesitated for a moment and replied: "I am her boyfriend."

  The doctor nodded silently and observed Feifei's condition as usual before turning around and walking out of the ward.

  As I watched the doctor walk out of the ward, I sat back down beside Feifei's bed and looked at her somewhat pale face, my heart aching slightly.

  Looking back at the window, the birdsong is still so crisp. I think after Feifei gets better, I'll have a good talk about love.
