Chapter 12 Black Cat
Faced with the sudden appearance of a black shadow, Cao Ming was completely unprepared and was scared to the ground in an instant.
I quickly turned on the headlamp and shone it over there, then that dark shadow let out a 'meow'.
I let out a soft breath of relief; it was just a cat after all.
Upon closer inspection, it was a large black cat with a body size similar to that of a three-month-old puppy.
"How could there be such a big cat here?" I asked in doubt.
Li Wei also looked puzzled, "Is it possible that someone still lives here?" Cao Ming stood up from the ground and interjected from the side.
I turned back to look at Cao Ming, although he looked very calm, but his face was still very pale.
"Are you okay?" I asked with concern.
Cao Ming looked at me and shook his head, saying: "It's just a cat, it can't scare me." After that, Cao Ming smiled awkwardly again.
"Where did that cat go?" Turning back, I just realized that the cat had disappeared without a trace at some point.
"Over there." Li Wei said, pointing inside the 'door'.
Running in the direction Li Wei pointed, I found the big black cat.
That black cat saw us following it and its whole body stood up straight at once.
Li Wei took a step forward and stretched out his hand towards the black cat, saying: "We don't have any malicious intentions. Can you take us out?"
"You're silly, what are you talking about with a cat?" Cao Ming patted Li Wei's shoulder and laughed.
"Because this cat can understand human language." As he said that, Li Wei took another look at the black cat.
As expected, the black cat seemed to have understood Li Wei's words, and its standing fur slowly became flat.
I stared at Li Wei and the cat in surprise with Cao Ming, really couldn't figure it out.
The cat stared at Li Wei for a moment before suddenly darting up onto a higher step.
"Let's hurry up and follow." Li Wei called out to us, then closely followed behind the large black cat.
I exchanged a look with Cao Ming, unsure whether or not to believe that cat, but now there was no other way.
Running up the stairs, Li Wei suddenly stopped in his tracks ahead.
"What's wrong?" I asked in a low voice.
Li Wei pointed forward with his finger, and I took a peek through the gap to find that we had already reached the end of the stairs.
"What's a dead end?" Cao Ming asked as he took a step forward.
"What about that black cat?" I don't care if it's a dead end or a clear road ahead, what I care about is that black cat.
Cao Ming furrowed his brow and asked, "Why are you so concerned about that cat?"
"I think that cat must have some secret, don't you think? We're already in the desert now. Before we came here, did you see any signs of human habitation around us?" As soon as I said this, Cao Ming nodded in agreement. I continued: "If there's no one around, then where did this cat come from? So, following this cat will definitely lead to some discovery."
"What you said makes some sense, but where are we going to find that black cat now?" Cao Ming said, rubbing his forehead.
Just as we were looking for that black cat, a 'meow' sound suddenly came from above our heads.
"Up there." I looked up and found that the black cat was indeed just above our heads.
Looking at the black cat above our heads, Cao Ming asked: "How did it get up there?"
"Look, there's a black 'hole' next to that black cat." Li Wei exclaimed, pointing at the black cat with his hand.
Moving the light of the mine a bit, I indeed saw a 'hole' next to the black cat.
"It seems like we can get out from there, but how are we going to climb up?" Cao Ming said, stroking his chin.
I held the lantern and shone it around the black cat, suddenly discovering a rope-like object. Following the rope downwards, I found that it was knotted less than five meters away from us.
"Look here," I said, pointing to the knotting place to Cao Ming and Li Wei.
Cao Ming saw the knot and smiled, saying: "It seems to be this one. I'll go first, you guys protect me from behind." After finishing speaking, Cao Ming walked towards the knot on the rope.
Cao Ming grasped the rope and pulled it hard, finding it very sturdy. He nodded to us and then started climbing up along the rope.
When Cao Ming climbed halfway up, he made a safe gesture towards us.
The rope is secure, I said to Li Wei: "You go up first, I'll cover the bottom."
After hearing what I said, Li Wei hastily shook his head and said: "You should go first, you don't know anything, how can you protect yourself down there?"
"It's okay, I have a gun." After that, I took out the Desert Eagle and flashed it in front of Li Wei.
Li Wei saw me pull out the gun and nodded, grabbing the rope and climbing up.
I looked up at them two climbing upwards, and I also started preparing for the rope-climbing work below.
Just as I grabbed the rope and started climbing up, Li Wei suddenly shouted loudly from above.
I looked at Li Wei in confusion as he gesticulated wildly, unsure of what he was trying to express.
"Watch out behind you!" Cao Ming suddenly shouted at me from above.
I turned my head back to take a look, only to see dozens of dark shadows closing in on me from behind. My hand went to the switch of the night vision device and I flipped it open with a 'click'.
The scene in front of me suddenly became clear, and those dozens of black shadows also became clear.
When I saw what was behind me, my face turned pale in an instant.
I saw dozens of desiccated corpses walking towards me, step by step. What's even more terrifying is that with the help of night vision, I could see the faces of those desiccated corpses clearly.
"Ugh..." I involuntarily let out a stifled groan.
"What are you still dazing about? Quickly climb up!" Cao Ming anxiously shouted from above.
I hastily grabbed the rope and started climbing up. But who knew that as soon as I exerted some force, the rope suddenly slid down a segment.
Cao Ming and Li Wei on the rope were also startled, I raised my head and shouted to Cao Ming and Li Wei: "You quickly go up, don't worry about me for now, the tension of the rope can't bear the weight of three people, you go up first, hurry..." After finishing speaking, I grasped the Desert Eagle in my hand.
But who would have thought that Cao Ming, after hearing what I said, didn't climb up but instead started sliding down the rope.
I raised my gun and fired a shot at the empty space next to Cao Ming, shouting: "You think you can all die here? Get your ass up for me!"
Cao Ming looked at the gun in my hand, still a bit unbearable. I continued to shout loudly: "I'm telling you, I won't die so easily, you two hurry up and get on with it." After finishing speaking, I turned around and shot one of the approaching zombies in the head, hitting it directly in the brain, its body leaning back before falling to the ground.
Cao Ming let out a grunt and started climbing upwards with all his might. Li Wei also followed closely behind Cao Ming.
There were two more mummies nearby, and I shot them in the head with one bullet each. However, there were many mummies, and the Desert Eagle only had a capacity of seven rounds.
After I shot down seven corpses, I started to hurriedly change bullets.
But just at this moment, the magazine couldn't be loaded anymore. As the corpse approached closer and closer, the magazine couldn't be loaded into the pistol.
At this time, I could feel the nearest mummy starting to attack me. In a panic, I grabbed the handle of my gun and slammed it into that mummy.
With a "crack", the mummy's head was smashed by me with the gun butt. I picked up the gun and took a look, only to find that there was no damage or scratches on the gun butt, it seemed that the Desert Eagle was quite sturdy.
Since the magazine can't be loaded, I'll use the gun butt and fight it out with you.
Bang! The dried-up corpse's head in front of me suddenly disappeared. I raised my head to look up and found that Cao Ming and Li Wei had already climbed to the top, at this moment Cao Ming was holding a handgun to cover me.
"What are you still standing there for, hurry up and come here!" Cao Ming shouted loudly at me, who was standing still on the spot.
I nodded and then took a step back, grabbed the rope and started climbing up.
As I prepared to flee, those corpses began to quicken their pace, and their movements became faster.
Just as I climbed less than three meters, my ankle suddenly tightened, and then a great force began to pull me down.
I turned my head down and took a look, only to find that it was a slightly taller mummy who had grabbed me. I pulled out the pistol, aimed at the mummy's head, and was about to pull the trigger when the pistol suddenly made two "click" sounds. It wasn't until then that I suddenly remembered that the pistol hadn't been loaded with a magazine yet.
I picked up the pistol and smashed it heavily on the mummy's head.
This mummy's head is somehow so hard that after I smashed it five times, its head didn't have any damage at all.
At this time more dry corpses had surrounded me, but the one that grabbed my ankle just wouldn't let go, and kept pulling me down with all its might.
Cao Ming above didn't know what was going on, now I'm in danger and he still doesn't shoot.
At this time, I had no idea that Cao Ming also encountered the same problem as me, which was that the magazine couldn't be loaded.
"What are you two doing? I'm going to be pulled down!" Seeing that the two of them still hadn't moved, I shouted loudly at the top.
Being shouted at by me, Cao Ming became even more anxious. After changing several magazines, Cao Ming threw the pistol to one side and picked up a military dagger, preparing to come down.
Li Wei grabbed Cao Ming and said: "You use my gun, I haven't fired a shot yet."
Cao Ming was stunned for a moment, then slapped his forehead and said: "How could I forget you?" After that, he took the pistol from Li Wei's hand, aimed at the corpse holding my ankle and pulled the trigger.
The bullet's hardness was still higher than the gun handle, and it suddenly pierced through the dry corpse's head. Feeling the hand grasping my ankle loosen, I used my other foot to randomly kick that hand, then started climbing up.
The higher I climbed, those dry corpses below were making a frantic 'squeaky' cry.
It wasn't until I climbed to the top that I realized my whole body was soaked through.
Cao Ming pulled me up with one hand, and I fell paralyzed to the ground at once.
At this time, the three of us were all covered in sweat, looking at each other's disheveled appearance, and we teased each other for a while.
There was a 'hole' at the top of the rope, where there was a passage. After resting in place for a while, we simply packed up and started walking towards the passage.
But just at this moment, the rope that brought us up suddenly moved a little.
