Chapter 23: Return (Part Two)

  Chapter 23 Return (2)

Xia Yanfei had that dream again, the one she used to have in the mountain village.

This time was slightly different in that she clearly heard herself shouting out a name at the end of her dream.

  Leave the grass.

When she woke up, she felt cold sweat all over her body. Xiaoyan sat up halfway and rubbed her temples, glancing at the alarm clock on the bedside table to find that it was already 11:30.

Although she was sleeping in her own home, her own room and her own bed, she didn't sleep soundly.

It started with being too tired and sleeping so soundly that I was almost in a coma, but then I had that eerie dream again, which meant I didn't get any rest at all.

Her body ached all over from the several hours of deep sleep, and Xiaoyan didn't even bother to open the curtains, she just sat on the bed with her back against the headboard, lost in thought.

When she first decorated her room, Xiaoyan insisted on using incredibly good blackout curtains, so even when it was a sunny afternoon outside, her bedroom was still dimly lit, with only the light from a bedside lamp.

She scratched her hair and pulled open the drawer of the bedside table, rummaged through a pile of cluttered miscellaneous items, and fished out half a pack of cigarettes that had been left for who knows how long and a lighter, then sat on the bed smoking.

To be honest, Xiaoyanfei didn't even have a smoking habit, but due to the dampness in the tomb and the unexpected twists and turns of events, she learned to smoke early on. In fact, she wouldn't feel at ease if she didn't bring a pack with her when going down.

But she lit up now just to calm herself down.

I don't know when Ao Yuan woke up and leaned against the door, quietly watching her. Xiaoyan thought to herself that she should change this habit of not closing the bedroom door while sleeping. She lowered her eyelids and saw the burnt cigarette ash fall on the marble floor, calmly opening her mouth: "Did you hear?"

"I didn't hear your mumblings, but I know you had a nightmare." Ao Yuan spoke up, his eyes unusually serious, "The effect of the Blood Contract."

Xia Yifei chuckled lightly: "Huh, is it?"

She threw away the cigarette butt and got out of bed: "I think I really need to go back to the old house for a few days, or else I won't even be able to sleep comfortably."

The girl with long black hair swayed away to wash up, Ao Yuan looked at her back, his hands clasped around his chest and fell into deep thought.

He lied, he clearly heard Xia Yu Fei shouting out that name.

The proud and arrogant Qinglong God couldn't help but subconsciously caress his left chest, where there was a ferocious scar, obviously inflicted by a sharp object, which had not healed for many years.

He clenched his fist at that name, how could she have dreamed of...

Xia Yunfei's home was spacious, although it was on the second floor, but there was a fairly large basement. The decoration was simple and clean, yet exuded an ancient charm everywhere. A complete set of tea utensils was placed on the coffee table, which was very much in line with Xia Yunfei's style. Ao Yuan didn't know about house prices, but when Xia Zezhao came to her home to warm up that year, she was really shocked. In Beijing, this house was bought by Xia Yunfei herself with her own money, and it was a full payment. This matter made Xia Zezhao doubt life for many days.

In Lan Ruo Xue's eyes, who knew her well, this was normal. However, the things she brought with her from underground, just two of the fake items she had made could be exchanged for this entire house.

She took a look around the house and was grateful that she had hired an aunt to clean regularly, otherwise she would have been exhausted from cleaning the house herself.

Xia Yu Fei rummaged through the fridge and decided to temporarily put aside a bunch of messy things and rest for two days before dealing with them again. Looking at the ingredients in the fridge and then at the weather outside, she decided to just make do with what she had and go grocery shopping tomorrow instead.

While taking out the ingredients for cooking, she said to Ao Yuan: "This afternoon, accompany me to Panjiayuan to see how the painting I entrusted to someone last time is doing, and then pick up my second-hand goods from home?"

Ao Yuan nodded in agreement without any hesitation to what she proposed, and last night Xiaoyan only briefly told him about light switches and other things. The world has changed so much that he is looking forward to seeing how many different things there are.

Xiaoyan, who was cutting tomatoes, couldn't help but sneak a bite of the freshly cut piece. She licked her fingers and picked up another piece with one hand, asking "Want one? Oh, by the way, I'll take some time this afternoon to help you buy something."

Ao Yuan, who lowered his head and ate the tomato directly from Xia Yu Fei's hand, felt that the juice of the tomato made Xia Yu Fei's fingers even whiter: "Aren't you going to the old mansion you mentioned yesterday?"

"Let's put it off for two days." Xia Yanyi said indifferently as she began to look for garlic after cutting the tomatoes, "I don't have the energy to go through the book pavilion for now."

Xia Yifei was copying the sauce while chatting with Ao Yuan, who was leaning lazily against the kitchen counter watching her busy herself. Finally, he couldn't help but speak up: "I didn't think you could cook."

"I'm not a young lady, besides, living alone can only be done by myself." Xia Yu Fei stared at the fire and said to him, "Pass me the salt shaker next to you."

Ao Yuan heard her words and handed over what she wanted. In the process of giving and taking, the two people seemed to have lived together for a long time, as if they had an unspoken understanding.

Actually, Ao Yuan has a pair of peach blossom eyes that seem to be smiling even when he's not laughing, but in modern terms, he probably has an icy attribute. If someone who knew him before saw how smoothly he was chatting with Xia Yu Fei, they would probably be shocked to death. After all, Ao Yuan used to be the silent type, and even when he occasionally spoke up, it was always with a proud and arrogant tone. When did he become so gentle and get along with a girl in the kitchen?

Years later when he thought of this matter again, he suddenly understood that perhaps from then on his feelings for Xia Yu Fei had already changed without him realizing it.

Due to material constraints, Xia Yanyan simply made a tomato sauce noodle dish to pass the lunch, fortunately this semi-Western-style meal was exceptionally handy for her to make due to her mother's influence, and the taste wouldn't be bad either.

After the two people finished eating, Xiaoyan Fei threw the bowl into the dishwasher and wiped her hands. She changed clothes in her room, made a phone call to confirm that the person was at the store in Panjiayuan, then picked up her single-shoulder bag and prepared to go out.

Before going out, she carefully examined Ao Yuan, who was wearing the shirt and jeans that he had forcibly taken from Xia Zezhao. Due to height issues, the clothes that fit perfectly on Xia Zezhao were now short-sleeved and short-legged on Ao Yuan, looking completely out of sync.

Xia Yifei spun the car key with her fingers and made a decision: "Let's go, first to Panjiayuan, buy some clothes and then pick up my second goods at home."

"Today Xia Ye must take you to experience what modern society is all about."
