Chapter 49: Counterattack and Escape
Magma will erupt at any time, and I don't have much time left.
One by one, the crawling corpses were blown up and fell to the ground, burned into ashes by the magma. For these Northeastern folks who couldn't rest in peace after death, destroying this unclean body might be the best liberation for their souls. I sighed, if I couldn't escape, my final fate would also be dying in a foreign land, without even leaving behind any remains.
The volcanic ash grew larger, and the red glow illuminated half of the sky. I thought that before the smoke covered the entire cave entrance, I would take advantage of the gap in the opponent's line of sight to escape at the right moment.
But after calm consideration, I had to give up on this plan. What if the volcanic eruption was too intense and the smoke didn't reach the desired concentration, and I might be forced into a very passive situation by the splashing magma? Even if I managed to climb out of the ground amidst the smoke, as long as the opponent kept waiting in ambush, there would still be vast open spaces on the surface for him to snipe me.
In short, without killing each other off, it's hard for me to escape safely.
The person who ambushed me is likely the same one who plotted against me and Oniichan in the underground base.
They wanted us dead from the start.
"Why not go around and come out from the other side?" I thought, but looking at the other side of the cave entrance, I could only shake my head bitterly. There was a gentle slope for me to climb up, but it was only in the direction I was currently in, as for other places, if I wanted to climb up to the cave entrance smoothly, unless I became a gecko. What made me even more afraid to move recklessly was that two people had appeared in the laboratory of the underground base! One of them looked exactly like Old Three Xie. If there were not just one person aiming at me now, then my situation would be much more dire than I had imagined.
Time passed minute by minute, and my body was extremely uncomfortable with the scorching heat. The bulletproof vest inside had been soaked through twice, I was on the verge of dehydration, my eyes were starting to get dizzy, and it had been several hours since I last drank water.
The weight of Oni no Yaiba is not great, for a Northeasterner like me, carrying a thin person is not considered hard work, but it still verifies the old saying that whether you are tired or not depends on how long you carry something, not how heavy it is. After a difficult climb, now leaning against the sword hanger, I gradually feel exhausted.
Several times, I strongly suppressed the urge to throw away this troublesome ghost.
"Hmm, wait a minute, maybe I can give it a try!" I suddenly had an idea, but the chance of success was slim and there was only one opportunity. Now I could only make do with what I had.
As I thought of this, I quickly untied the corpse rope that bound me and Oni no Yaiba, the knot was very tight, and in the end, I could only cut it with a knife. It's actually quite difficult to do this in mid-air, I can only pull out one hand at a time to complete all actions. Carefully not letting Oni no Yaiba fall off, then I started to pull his bulletproof vest up as much as possible until it covered his entire head.
Everything is settled, I wiped the sweat from my palm, replaced a new magazine for M50, and suddenly became extremely serious.
"Heaven, if you want me to get promoted and rich, I shouldn't die in this broken place." I muttered a sentence, according to Tian Wenliang's words, successful men should die in two places, amidst piles of money and on a woman's belly.
"Ah, hiding one's head and showing one's face is not what a good man does! I'm going to fight you!" I shouted loudly, suddenly throwing the upper half of Oni no Tsukumogami to the ground.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Two bullets whizzed through the air in response.
"It's from the north!" I quickly judged the direction of the bullet, in a flash, using Koinosuke's body as cover, I swiftly stuck out half my head in that direction, narrowing my eyes for a glance. Swish, another bullet came flying over.
I narrowly escaped with a cold smile in my heart. One hundred meters, the direction of the muzzle flash, these two key pieces of information are now in hand!
Without any hesitation, I thrust the submachine gun out from under the yokai's armpit and fired a burst of shots in the direction the bullets had come from, shooting wildly.
The key to my counterattack is the accuracy and stability of the M50. In fact, almost all submachine guns have no accuracy to speak of, whoever believes it is stupid. My goal is only one, firepower suppression, seize the initiative!
I can feel the shockwave from the bullet impact on Oni no Yaiba's chest, this guy is still able to counterattack! Unfortunately, Oni no Yaiba used his last hand grenade on the giant centipede, otherwise he would have blown that bastard to death.
Held on for a little while, seeing that the M50 submachine gun's bullets were about to run out, I secretly thought "this is bad", the time has been dragged on for too long. Who knows how much longer Ghost Leg's custom-made bulletproof vest can withstand such high-intensity impact?
"Bring it on, I'll fight you to the death." My eyes turned red with rage, my head spinning with heat, and I was ready to charge at him and fight to the bitter end.
Just then, "Ahh-ooo!"
A large number of wild dogs suddenly came from that direction and started barking wildly!
The rustling of trees suddenly rose and fell, the man's gunfire suddenly became scattered, accompanied by several cries of the barbarians.
I was overjoyed: "That guy was attacked by savages!"
No time to consider whether it's a trap or not, I hastily climbed out of the ground and Ghost Night turned around and rushed towards the other end of the volcanic mouth.
Several bullets flew over, all of which were blocked by Oni no Yaiba's bulletproof vest. After a few breaths, there were no more bullets coming over.
I didn't dare relax for a moment, covering my head and rushing forward wildly until I ran out of their firing range.
"Go into the dense forest!" Suddenly, a weak voice of Oni no Yaiba echoed in his ears.
I felt a thrill run through me: "You're finally awake!"
"Akane, you've been shot so many times, even a dead person would be awakened. " Oniwasha seemed to be in good spirits and said in a low, barely audible voice: "Thanks!"
"What? Louder, I can't hear!" I asked while running and turned into the nearest dense forest, galloping back and forth through the gaps in the trees, looking for a downhill path.
Oni no Yaiba grunted and said, "Less chatter, run quickly!"
"Spare me!" I panted, refusing to waste any more energy on his nonsense.
I had already noticed that we were on the other island peak where the lighthouse was. The two peaks were connected by an underground Japanese base. We had to run to the beach of the original island, where the inflatable boat was docked.
"Give me the handgun." Onihei suddenly said in a low voice.
"What's wrong?"
The words had just left my mouth when I heard a rustling sound of footsteps behind me. My expression changed, it was a savage!
I immediately handed the pistol over to Oniichan and said to him: "Most of these savages are failed experiments, transformed from ordinary Japanese people."
"Huh?" Oni no Yaiba gave me a weird look, but I didn't have the time to explain things to him right now.
Onmyodo shoots forward with his head on top of Inuyasha's.
Bang!
A wild man fell from the tree and landed right in front of me, less than a meter away. I was shocked afterwards, I didn't even notice there was an ambush ahead, almost got pounced on by this thing.
"Just run boldly and I'll take care of your safety." Oniyasha recklessly guaranteed, adjusted his bulletproof vest, and fired his handgun non-stop, every shot hitting its mark.
I handed over all the remaining bullets to him in one go.
Like this, I carried the ghost yaksha with a broken leg and ran wildly all the way, and a large number of wild men fell on our escape route.
The downhill walk was very smooth, and to avoid ambushes, I deliberately avoided the anthill group under the guidance of Oni. An hour later, we finally returned to the beach where we came from.
The night wind blows through my hair, very comfortable. I and Guiniang let out a long sigh together.
I leaned the oni against a large boulder to rest, and turned back to look at the volcanic crater not far away, which was already illuminating the entire island peak as if it were daytime. The lava had begun to erupt in a small area, and the volcanic ash had even drifted over to where we were. The dense smoke obscured the stars and the crescent moon, accompanied by slight aftershocks, with some signs of the small island's impending destruction.
I waded into the water to look for the kayak, but after searching all around, it was nowhere to be found!
On the big rock that should have been tied with a kayak, there was only one lonely rope floating on the water.
"It's been cut!" I grabbed the rope and could see a clear cutting edge.
Rumble...
A loud explosion. I hastily looked around and suddenly my pupils contracted. The lighthouse was blown up from the bottom to the top, sinking into the ground.
Then there were several more explosions from underground, and the ground shook with them.
"That person destroyed the underground base." Kageyasha said in a low voice. I looked far away at the ruined lighthouse, knowing that someone was destroying evidence of what happened here and covering up everything that had occurred.
Looking far into the distance, the Golden Flower Wheel quietly stops half a mile away.
After calculating the time, it has already passed the explosion time threatened by Cai Lingyu. Now, the Jinhua wheel is safe and sound, and the crisis seems to have been resolved. It's likely that Cai Lingyu was lying.
"What's next?" I asked.
"Nie Kun, as long as he's not blind, seeing the scene on the island, must know we're in trouble. Hehe, believe it or not, if it weren't for Shi Lao holding him back, this Green Gang thug would have definitely ordered the sailors to set sail immediately." Gu Ye Jia said, and later proved that Nie Kun indeed thought so.
"We'll start a fire for help." The oni yasha proposed at last.
We found some dead wood, lit it up, and started a bonfire in a place where the flames wouldn't be obscured by the volcanic eruption. We covered our mouths with clothes to signal for help, using two long and two short signals, towards the Jinhua ship.
Of course, doing so will inevitably expose our target and attract the person who killed us, or even more than one.
So I fanned the flames as bait, and Oni no Yaichi gripped his gun and hid behind a large rock with its back to the sea, vigilant for any sign of movement.
Ten minutes later, I finally saw a rubber dinghy being lowered from the Jin Hua wheel and slowly paddling towards us.
