Chapter 39: The Lower Cave

  Chapter Thirty-Nine Downward Cave

"Is there another 'leg'?" I hastily stretched my neck to look out of the 'hole', and saw Xu Lai's shadow just entering the bottom of the 'hole'. He didn't stop at all, and quickly crawled inside.

  I didn't see anything clearly.

I hesitated for a moment and said to Oni no Yaiba, "Should we go down and bring him back?"

Oniichan shook his head: "Too much trouble." He pointed upwards and said, "There's a ventilation duct leading up there. That 'bastard' who fired the cold gun should have escaped that way by now. Before he gets a chance to do anything else, we need to get back down the same way we came, or things will get complicated."

I fell silent for a moment, this was indeed not the time to show "benevolence". I don't think of myself as some kind of ruthless killer, but neither do I pretend to be overly emotional. To take risks for someone who doesn't even have any friendship with me and is often hostile, that's still something I couldn't bring myself to do. The training of a secret agent and the long years of war had made my heart much colder than ordinary people. After struggling for a moment, I sighed and said: "Let's go, the path was chosen by ourselves."

"Good!" Oni no Ya smiled and nodded his head.

  We walked towards Room 5.

Suddenly, I felt a drop of water on my head, falling onto the back of my neck, cool but slightly sticky. It didn't feel like pure water. Subconsciously, I looked up to see that the air duct was covered with droplets of water, dripping down one after another.

Just one breath, whoosh, a water droplet sprayed out, and an extremely pungent smell made my whole body shudder.

I hastily dodged, but still got a large amount of ** on my body. I pinched a handful, and my face turned pale: "Sheng brother, this is... gasoline!"

"Oni no Yaiba said in a low voice: 'Run quickly!'"

I took a deep breath and sprinted towards Room 5, at this time the gasoline in the air ducts was getting more and more, falling down like a jet spray, instantly covering almost the entire hall.

I accidentally slipped, and the oni scolded me with a sentence: "You got me killed!", turned around and pulled me. At this moment, I was shocked to see that the closed door of room 1 suddenly opened a small gap, and the next scene made me so scared that my hands and feet were cold. I saw two pale hands stretching out, holding a matchbox, with a rustling sound, the match ignited.

"Psst..." A low, cold voice came from behind the door, followed by a swift swing of his wrist, and a match flew towards us as I stood there with my eyes wide open in shock.

At this critical moment, I only felt my feet as heavy as lead, unable to move. The match flew towards me, the whole scene seemed to be frozen in time. I gave up struggling and resigned myself to fate at that moment, with a heart as dead as ashes. In my mind, there was only one word repeating incessantly: "Dead, dead, dead..."

"Idiot, stop spacing out!" Oni no Yaiba bellowed, and in the blink of an eye, a powerful kick sent me flying into the air. Almost simultaneously, Oni no Yaibaba accelerated like a cheetah, snatching me up as I flew through the air, completing a series of movements within a single breath. By the time I came to my senses, more than half of my body had already plunged headfirst into the hole in the ground.

  Rumble...

A muffled sound came from behind, and I only felt a sudden brightness in front of my eyes. My feet were scorching hot. Without turning around, I knew that the fire dragon was rushing towards us quickly. The two of us were covered in gasoline, and we would catch fire with just one touch.

At the critical moment, "Ah!" Oni no Ya again bulged with blue veins, one hand pressed against the 'hole' to borrow strength, and a reverse hook kick directly kicked me into the 'hole', and then he grabbed my 'leg' and followed in.

In less than half a breath, I turned my head back to see that the entrance of the cave was already illuminated by the raging flames, and the beautiful face of Gui Ye Jia was covered in sweat, his features looking stern and solemn under the light of the fire.

The strong gust of wind generated by the fall was blowing against my cheeks, I stared wide-eyed as the "hole" bottom grew larger and larger, in an instant I was about to land face-first. I forgot to breathe, closed my eyes, suddenly, a huge force came from my ankle, and my body hung suspended in mid-air, stopping abruptly. When I opened my eyes again, the ground at the bottom of the "hole" was less than one centimeter away from my nose, the damp earthy smell clearly entered my nostrils.

I let out a long sigh of relief, I was saved.

"Damn, what did you eat to grow up so heavy?" Oni no Ya shouted and suddenly let go of my hand. I didn't even have time to rejoice for a few seconds when I heard an "ahh" sound and fell flat on my face, with a big mouthful of mud.

"Pfft... pfft... pfft..." I spat out mud and stones, looking into the eyes of Oni no Yasha with a hint of gratitude, saying in an inaudible voice: "Thank you!"

Oni no Yaiba did a beautiful flip and landed in front of me. He patted himself down, and I noticed that his clothes had burn marks on them.

"When it falls, the fire will be extinguished by friction with the 'hole' wall." Oni no Ya said casually, and everything seemed easy in his mouth. He looked up at the "hole" entrance, and the flames were still burning, don't know how long they would burn.

For a moment, we had no hope of getting out from upstairs.

I shook off the dirt on my body and turned to look inside the 'cave', only to see that it was extremely simple inside, completely different from the artificial underground base opened by the Japanese above, which looked like a natural limestone cave.

The place we are in is the entrance to this cave. Fortunately, there is a miner's lamp every ten or so steps above our heads, but most of them are not lit, I don't know if they're broken or just not turned on. We ventured forward for several steps, and underfoot were shallow pools of water scattered throughout the cave.

Oni no Yaiba tasted a drop of water with his tongue and spat it out, saying: "Freshwater."

I'm getting suspicious, the place we're in now is actually the real ocean floor. I don't understand geography, but I also know that freshwater shouldn't be appearing here, it's barely acceptable on the surface of the island, and at such a depth it should easily be penetrated by seawater.

No matter what, having fresh water is at least good news for us. Because from now on, I don't know if I can run back to the ground smoothly, and having fresh water is better than drinking 'urine' anyway.

Anyway, the road ahead was blocked, and I and Guǐyèxiā could only force our way forward. The cave was very irregular, with high places reaching three or four meters, and low places where a person couldn't even stand upright; we could only proceed cautiously, bent at the waist.

The submachine gun was held in his hand and he didn't dare relax for a moment.

I walked forward for about five minutes, and when I didn't know where I was going, a large pool suddenly appeared in front of me, much larger than the ones I had encountered before.

And in the pool of water, a thick iron wire mesh stretched across the entire cave, separating the inside from the outside.

"It seems that little Japan has sealed it inside." I thought to myself, just thinking of going down to test the waters, Oni no Tsuki suddenly pulled me back: "Wait."

As he spoke, he tossed out a shoe insole, throwing it far onto the barbed wire.

  Hehehehe...

The insole touched the iron wire and was immediately scorched, falling into the water.

I broke out in a cold sweat instantly, this is a high-voltage power grid!

"If you had left a little earlier, my dinner would have been ready - roasted suckling pig." Oniyasha said with a grin.

"I paced back and forth: 'What to do, we can't get through?' Anxious, I walked a few steps, suddenly, I saw the miner's lamp on my head, slapped my forehead, and exclaimed: 'I've got it! The electric wire of the miner's lamp might be the same as the power grid!'"

I didn't expect Oniichan to shake his head and strike me down with "The voltage is different, it shouldn't be."

"However, I can try." Oni no Ya thought for a moment, then found the lowest point on his head and started to chisel into the rock wall with his dagger.

I rushed over to help, and at this time the big dagger hidden in my waist came in handy.

The rock is very solid, if it's not solid, it would have collapsed long ago. The wire can't be behind the rock, it should be stuck in some gap between the rocks. After a search, scraping away the dirt, finally found a thin red wire.

"It's not a high-voltage wire, look around again," said Kiyotsune. I silently understood and continued to search rock by rock.

  Beep, beep, beep.

"Huh, this rock is hollow." I exclaimed, and with a forceful pry, the rock, which looked extremely hard, was actually broken apart by me. Inside, a large number of thick black lines were suddenly 'exposed'.

Oni no Ya rushed over to take a look and exclaimed with joy, "This is a transformer disguised as a stone!" After saying that, he thoroughly dismantled the fake stone, and it turned out that a large area on this side was also fake.

Before long, a miniature transformer appeared before our eyes, built against the wall.

"Make way." Kiyotsugu said in a low voice, picking up the submachine gun and firing several shots in succession. In an instant, the transformer sparked and exploded, and then fell silent.

We hurried back to the edge of the pool, and Kiyotsune threw the other shoe sole over as well. This time, it fell into the water without any change.

"Let's go." Oni no Ya shouted at me, but he himself didn't move forward. I understood what he meant - this 'bastard' still wasn't reassured, letting me scout ahead, damn it, isn't this just being a cannon fodder again?

I gave him a glance, took a deep breath, and slowly stretched my toes into the water. My heart was racing, and Oni saw that I had turned pale, so he asked anxiously, "Are you okay?" I let out a mouthful of stale air: "I'm fine, just nervous."

The pool was not deep, and when we came to the electric net, it just barely reached our waist. Kiyotsugu took out his dagger again, ready to pry open the iron wire mesh. I noticed that his dagger had several irregular openings on the blade, just like a bottle opener, making it easy to cut off the iron wire.

"It's no wonder he's a marine, this equipment is enviable." I thought to myself, also wanting to go up and lend a hand, but as soon as my foot moved, it got tangled. With a bit of effort, a string of bubbles emerged from the water, and then a black shadow slowly floated up.

My expression turned stern and I let out a low shout to remind Guǐ Yè Chā. The black shadow quickly floated up, revealing a person.

The first reaction in my mind was whether this guy was Xu Lai or not. He hadn't been seen all the way, and he couldn't get past the high-voltage electric net, so it's possible that he was electrocuted to death here.

Oni no Yaiba flipped over the human face and looked at it; it was a strange man.

We looked at each other, could it be Japanese?

I moved the body to the shore and found that he was wearing a yellow military uniform, with a broken glass bottle and a handgun in his pocket. In his pocket, I found an identification document that had been severely soaked by water, which I dared not open, as it would likely be torn apart, rendering the information inside completely unknown.

Oniichan pried open the electric net and made a big 'hole', urging me to hurry up, I quickly put the documents in the hard leather cover of the notebook I had obtained earlier, and then carefully put it away.

As I walked through the barbed wire, I subconsciously glanced at the murky pool and wondered if Xu Lai had already died here, right under our unknowing feet?

No time for sentimentality, we quickly trudged through the water and continued on our way. Before long, the 'cave' began to shrink and suddenly became very narrow, and we could only pass through one by one.

More than ten steps later, a brilliant golden light shot over from outside the 'cave'.
