Chapter 37 Discovery

  Chapter Thirty-Seven Discovery

I was caught off guard and made the most fatal conditioned reflex, quickly turning my face while unexpectedly stretching out my palm to block the toxic liquid.

Hiss...... A sticky feeling in the palm of my hand.

The moment the venom entered my hand, I regretted it. Alas, I was still too young and severely lacking in experience; the correct first reaction should have been to quickly dodge to the side with my body.

At the same time, I caught a glimpse of Oni-Itachi dodging the poisonous attack with agility and elegance, his face calm as he pulled the trigger, bang, instantly killing the large blue-green centipede.

"Ah, my hand!" Xu Lai shrieked as his leg was injured and he didn't have time to dodge, choosing instead to block with his hand like I did, resulting in his palm filling up with venom.

I took a look and was startled. Xu Lai's palm had a large piece of skin rotten, and the tender flesh inside had turned black. As soon as I saw this, I immediately went to check my own hand, and what made me breathe a sigh of relief was that my hand was fine, nothing was wrong with it. I quickly found a piece of gauze and carefully wiped away the toxic liquid.

"This venom is corrosive, and it's unclear just how toxic it is." Oni no Yaiba grasped Xu Lai's wrist, furrowed his brow, and suddenly pulled out a dagger from his pocket, saying in a low voice, "It would be best to cut off the infected flesh."

Xu Lai's face was ashen: "No, no, no, it doesn't hurt anymore, there's no need to cut." As he spoke, he desperately pulled back his hand that had been grabbed by Gui Ye Jia. Gui Ye Jia refused to give in: "If we don't cut, there's a high possibility of the poison spreading and killing you."

Xu Laijian resolutely refused to give in: "It's also possible that nothing will happen, if I die, I'll take responsibility. Chi Na, look at that kid, he doesn't seem to be affected at all, which means this toxin isn't very potent!"

Inuyasha looked at me with an unusual gaze and said in a low voice, "Don't compare yourself to him, you're different." I subconsciously trembled, Inuyasha was hinting that I was immune to the hundred poisons, but didn't completely reveal it.

Xu Lai shouted: "I've been poisoned by corpses before, nothing happened. If you dare to cut my 'flesh', I'll never end with you."

In the end, Oni no Ya didn't persist and let go of Xu Lai's wrist, his eyes coldly saying: "Forget it, if the poison breaks out just tell me, I'll give you a quick death."

"Hmph, don't need you, I'll do it myself." Xu Lai replied, his eyes fixed on the black meat in his hand, unsure of what mood he was in.

Having disposed of the giant centipede, we continued to search the dissection room and found that, just like before, all the materials had been taken away by someone, leaving no useful information behind.

Behind the autopsy room, there is another 'door'. As soon as we stepped in, we found ourselves back in a research lab. The circular hall has eight rooms, numbered from 1 to 8, and the autopsy room we came out of is Room 5. The hall is closed off with no passage forward, but in the center of the hall, there is a large 'hole' surrounded by a railing that is over a person's height. This 'hole' has a diameter of about three meters. As we approached, we saw a ladder going straight down inside the 'hole', which is very deep, with a faint light at a depth of twenty or thirty meters.

"What's the point of digging such a deep hole, you little Japanese?" Xu Lai cursed.

"I'm quite curious." Oniyasha, who marked 'sex' with a 'touch' on his chin, said strangely: "We are at the bottom of a solitary island in the middle of the sea. Logically speaking, at such a great depth, there should be a lot of underground water, but so far, none has been found."

"Right, it's steel plate. Could the entire underground structure have been cast and wrapped in raw iron, so there was no seepage? I thought of the steel plate we found after breaking through the concrete yard at first, if that's really the case, the cost of this project is staggering, just transporting the steel to this isolated island is a huge expense."

We decided to take a look at what was in the other rooms first, and then head back along the original route. We already knew we were going in the wrong direction, so we decided not to waste any more time. It had been several hours since we left Jinhuawheel anyway.

We started searching from room 1, but we hit a snag right away. The 'door' was not only locked, but also had a password lock like a safe. I smiled apologetically at the two of them: "My skills aren't that great yet."

Helplessly, we could only search room 2. As soon as the door was opened, a chill ran down our spines. This turned out to be a morgue. Dozens of corpses were neatly arranged on an extremely wide table, their bodies covered with white cloth.

I plucked up the courage to lift a white cloth, revealing a typical little Japanese face. A rough glance at the corpse revealed that this person's body had very severe external injuries, with a large piece of flesh missing from his abdomen, looking very inhumane. Later, Kiyotsugu examined several more corpses, mostly those of little Japanese people, mostly killed by external injuries, with very tragic deaths. A few were the bodies of savages, which should have been dissected remains.

"After all, he wasn't a good thing before his death either, and he deserved to die." Xu Lai and I had an astonishingly consistent idea, without any sympathy for the little Japanese's death.

We exit Room 2 and head towards Room 3.

However, as soon as I pushed open the 'door', my face suddenly changed color.

All I saw was a middle-aged Japanese military officer in a white greatcoat sitting upright against the 'door', his dark face coldly staring straight at us!

"Look out, someone's here!" I shouted loudly. With a swift motion, the M50 submachine gun was aimed directly at him, and he barked, "Don't move!"

"What a lot of nonsense!" Xu Lai drew his gun and fired, hitting the Japanese officer right between the eyebrows.

Japanese officer fell heavily to the ground.

Oni no Yaiba charged over in two strides, grasped the Japanese officer's neck with one hand and felt it a few times before turning to us and saying: "He's been dead for some time, his body has stiffened up badly."

I followed Xu Lai forward and found that, just as Gui Ye said, this middle-aged Japanese military officer had eyes that were empty and open, but his skin was covered in black spots all over his body, and his muscles were very stiff, no wonder he could maintain a sitting posture.

I couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief, I was too shocked to look around the room just now, and now that I've taken a closer look, I see it's a small office. Next to the Japanese officer is a desk with a pen on it, as well as a notebook.

  This discovery has us thrilled.

"Take a look!" Xu Lai grabbed the notebook, which was only as big as a palm and quite thick.

I flipped through it quickly, and Xu Lai's mouthful of dirty words didn't stop. The whole thing was written in Japanese, with some Chinese characters, but they were hard to string together into useful information. I snatched the notebook away, took a closer look, and found that it was a research notebook, with dates recorded fairly clearly. When I flipped to the last page, I couldn't help but let out a soft "hmm": "Huh? It's actually December 15th, 1948? That's just last year! The Japanese devils had already surrendered by then. Did Little Japan only withdraw from here last year?"

"No. It should be said that others withdrew, but this person stayed and died here." Oniyasha shook his head, pointing to the notebook in explanation under my puzzled gaze: "This is the proof. All other data was taken away hastily, why did such an important research notebook stay behind? It can only be said that he had another task and couldn't leave with others."

We searched the Japanese officer from head to toe, almost stripping him naked. Unfortunately, a black and white photo was found in his pocket. The photo showed a little girl and a Japanese noblewoman smiling brightly together. We guessed that these two people should be the wife and daughter of this Japanese officer. When secretly executing tasks, only photos of the closest relatives can give oneself a little sustenance to survive.

I continued to search, but there was no other useful information. I put the notebook away in my pocket and thought that once I got out of this place, I would find a friend who understands Japanese to translate the contents properly. "If I sell it to the newspaper, I'll probably get a good price for it." I couldn't help but think so, since I was short on cash at the moment.

Next, rooms 4 and 6 were also searched, which were similar operating rooms to room 5, but without the wild man's corpse, and there were some empty bottles and a large number of syringes, it seemed that they didn't just do surgery.

Later, in Room 7, we made a different discovery. As soon as we entered the 'door', it was pitch black, and after turning on the light, it turned out to be a projection room, with an old-fashioned projector set up at the entrance.

Xu Lai Le said: "Hey, little Japanese, your amateur life is pretty good, you even know how to watch 'adult' movies."

"Stop guessing wildly, this should be for playing back research tapes." I didn't bother to argue with Xu Lai, and after searching around, indeed, there were no film reels left behind.

Sighing, I exited the room and came to the last one, in front of door No. 8. After seeing this, we planned to return by the original route.

As soon as the door opened, we were stunned by the scene in front of us. There were two rows of over thirty glass jars, each about two meters high, filled with formalin, emitting a strong and pungent smell that was hard to bear. The bodies of various colors floated silently in the formalin, their dead air suffocating us, making it hard for us to breathe.

I stared wide-eyed, swallowing hard, and took a step forward. The corpses in front of me were like works of art on display, all human, with men and women, but soon we discovered something was off. Several bodies were grotesquely deformed, with four legs, two heads, eight arms, and even two bodies joined together, leaving me aghast.

As I walked to the middle, I stopped my footsteps in shock and stood still in front of a formalin jar with at least one corpse inside, staring at the body of a man who was completely * , and I couldn't believe my eyes.

"Come... come and see..." I said with a trembling tone.

"What's going on, is there a 'naked' 'woman'?" Xu Lai swaggered over with Gui Ye Jia, and in just an instant, I clearly heard the two of them gasping for air.

"It's him, the one who saw a ghost!" Xu Lai was shocked and lost his composure.

"It's too similar, it's just like a person. Shouldn't he be on the Jin Hua wheel? Is there really such a similar person in the world!" The color of Gui Ye Jia's face was not good-looking.

I stared at the man in the jar, so familiar, my throat hoarse as I muttered out the name of the person who looked exactly like him: "Xie Lao San... what have you been hiding from us?"
