Chapter 7: Hunyuan Gong
The voice was not loud, but it was ringing in Gao Feng's ears, startling him. The direction of the sound seemed to be coming from the middle of the mountain, could there be someone on the mountain? For a moment, Gao Feng was really confused about whether this was reality or a dream.
Whether to go or not, Gaofeng's father had warned him when he was young that whenever someone calls out in the dark or in a cloudy place, don't go over there. Inside is either an evil spirit or a bandit. At the time, he didn't know why, but after growing up, Gaofeng understood and indeed there were many examples of people getting hurt.
In the Zhongjing Prefecture government office, there was a record of a similar case. It said that outside the city, there were evil people who practiced dark magic and could learn a person's nickname. If they called out in a deserted place and the person responded, then half of their three souls and seven spirits would be taken by the evil person, and the victim would be controlled by them. Later, this evil person was killed by the Taoist temple, and only then did everyone become aware of it.
The person who might have made a sound also saw Gao Feng's hesitation and said on top of that:
"Gaofeng, what are you afraid of? Pick some fruit and come up, I'll give you something good."
Being able to call out one's own name, this is different again. Under this giant mountain, despite the clouds and mist swirling around, it looks quite mysterious, but there is no eerie or terrifying feeling. Moreover, in this place, Gao Feng feels very safe, and in his subconscious mind, he even feels a sense of familiarity. Besides, Gao Feng himself also wants to climb up the mountain to see what's inside that cloud and mist.
Right next to the stone steps leading up the mountain, there were fruit trees with branches hanging very low, within reach. The stone steps on both sides were lined with such fruit trees, and the fruits inside were bigger and more plump, more attractive. Gao Feng walked over and picked a few crimson fruits, holding them as he went up.
For some reason, walking on the stone steps, Gao Feng felt a bit tired, every step took effort, the stone steps were very wide and thick, couldn't see what kind of material they were made of. After walking dozens of levels, there were no longer any fruit trees on both sides, but rather some large and sturdy trees with exceptionally lush branches and leaves, making the forest seem very deep and secluded.
Looking at the cloud and mist on the middle of the mountain from a distance, it seemed to be far away from the foot of the mountain. However, as I walked up, it wasn't that far after all. After climbing 120 steps, the cloud and mist were already under my feet. The middle part of the mountain was a large flat area surrounding the entire mountain waist. The environment on this flat ground was similar to that at the foot of the mountain, with bushes and forests. A stone path connected to a stone board road, passing through this flat ground. After that, there were more stone steps leading up to higher places. As I walked upwards for a while, the cloud and mist blocked my view again. Gao Feng looked up and saw that he had only climbed one layer, but he realized that this giant mountain might be even taller than he had imagined.
At the intersection of stone steps and stone slab roads on the flat ground, a stone monument stood at the edge, with what seemed to be words on it. Before I could go take a look, that voice shouted again:
"What's taking so long over there? Hurry up and give me the fruit!"
The voice was very impatient, but the voice couldn't tell whether it was male or female, old or young. Gao Feng turned his head, and this time he could hear that the sound came from the woods on the right side of the lawn.
It's strange to say that the mountain waist has clouds and fog up and down, which is too dense to see through, and I don't know where the sun is, but the light seems to be as bright as a sunny day. The trees on the grassland side are not as dense as those on both sides of the stone steps leading up the mountain, but the light doesn't enter, and it's impossible to see clearly.
"No need to look around, it's here! Just throw the fruit in!"
The voice was slightly urgent, and Gao Feng walked a few steps forward. On the grassland, except for a large tree stump, nothing else could be seen. It was too close to the forest ahead, so safety came first. Gao Feng stood beside the tree stump and handed over the fruit in his hand.
The fruit wasn't a hard one, and it wouldn't smash if dropped on the ground. Gao Fang had just thought of this when he heard a "whooshing" sound, as if something was moving at high speed. Not a single fruit fell to the ground, and then there were sounds of someone eating the fruit. After a few bites, he could hear the person speaking in a muffled tone, clearly still chewing on the fruit.
"It's really hard to eat... but it's better than nothing... kid, look at that stump over there, the thing I'm giving you is right there!"
It's just a tree stump, and when you look down from the tall maple, this stump doesn't know what kind of tree it was left behind. When it wasn't cut down, this tree must have been towering into the sky, because the cross-section of this stump is as big as a small round table.
On the cross-section, some messy textures were carved, and it couldn't even be called a pattern. This was what they called "good fortune". Gao Feng couldn't help but chuckle, but it wasn't a big deal, just a few fruits after all. He was about to walk through this flat land and continue upwards to see how things looked from above.
"What are you smiling about? Open your eyes wide and take a closer look, can't even tell if you're still pretending to understand!"
He was scolded severely, but Gao Feng didn't get angry at all. His voice while eating was also very difficult to have any majesty.
Lowering his head to take another look, he became more focused this time. At first glance, it was still a messy tangle of lines, but upon closer inspection, the lines seemed to form some sort of pattern. Looking even closer, the pattern appeared to be a human figure. This human figure began to shine with countless bright spots, seemingly representing the acupoints and meridians on the body. Even more astonishingly, the figure started moving, as if standing upright on the surface of the tree stump, performing various actions. As it moved, the bright spots on the figure's body flashed on and off, sometimes shining brightly, sometimes dimming.
Gao Feng started to feel strange, but after glancing around a few times, he suddenly said:
"This is Hunyuan Gong..."
He said half a sentence and stopped, the so-called Hunyuan Gong is a set of rough goods gong method, it is said that it was created by the emperor of the previous dynasty, with infinite power, widely spread in Dashu, originally taught in the military, soldiers returned to their hometowns as civilians, and then passed on this Hunyuan Gong to others. Ordinary people who want to learn martial arts can easily learn this Hunyuan Gong, and it is indeed effective after learning, but if you want to go further, it's very difficult. After entering the first and second layers of Hunyuan Gong, it's almost "practicing bones", no matter how hard you practice afterwards, you can only reach the state of "guiding qi".
People who truly have aspirations will not learn this, but it is a good method for teaching the masses to strengthen their bodies and minds. The main family of Fēng Tiān Hóu and the core disciples all practice the traditional martial arts that have been passed down through generations, but the collateral branches and distant relatives all learn this Huàn Yuán Gōng instead.
Gaofeng has been learning the Hunyuan Gong from a martial artist in his clan since he was young. He studied it diligently and painstakingly, so naturally he is familiar with every move and style. On the cross-section of the tree trunk, the human figure transformed from those chaotic lines demonstrates the Hunyuan Gong, and the appearance and disappearance of the meridians and acupoints on his body demonstrate the flow of true qi.
These movements, the flow of true energy, are also described by family martial artists, but compared to direct intuition, it is unknown how much difference there is, let alone that the describer's own understanding of Hunyuan Gong is not complete.
"......This is not Hunyuan Gong!"
