Li Peicheng was worried that he couldn't calm down to read a book when the mobile phone in his pocket vibrated. He took a look and it was his instructor's call, although it was summer vacation, there were not many people in the library, he still ran to the stairs before answering the phone.
"I am He Renwei, come to my office if it's convenient for you now." Professor He's voice came over the phone.
"Alright, I'll go right now." Li Peicheng was surprised that Professor He had called him, but he still agreed immediately.
Professor He's office is in the experimental building, less than a hundred meters away from the library, and Li Peicheng arrived quickly.
Li Peicheng was surprised to find other people in Professor He's office.
As an official, he has a set of techniques for judging people. Li Peicheng's forehead is wide and broad, his eyes are bright and clear, his shoulders are wide, his waist is straight, the whole person looks clean and neat, energetic and vigorous, steady and honest.
Sun Xinpeng took a liking to Li Peicheng as soon as he saw him.
"Come, come, Pei Cheng, let me introduce you. This is my old classmate, Director Sun of the West Lake District Gardening Bureau."
"Old Sun, this is Li Peicheng I told you about!"
Li Peicheng heard that the other party was an official and was slightly restrained, but still stretched out his hand and shook hands with Sun Xinpin firmly.
"I have a daughter who will be attending high school in the second half of the year, I want to hire a tutor for her, can you help me with that?" Director Sun said straightforwardly.
Li Peicheng then knew why Professor He had called him over.
Li Peicheng had planned to find a tutoring job during the summer vacation, and Director Sun was Professor He's classmate, so he wouldn't refuse. However, the fact that the student was a girl made Li Peicheng feel slightly uneasy in his heart.
"Director Sun is too polite, I should thank you for trusting me so much, so I don't have to worry about finding a tutor for the summer vacation anymore." Li Peicheng said.
"Haha, okay, it's settled then!" Director Sun was overjoyed. "So when can you come to my house?" Director Sun asked further.
"I have to go back home tomorrow and will be back next Sunday. How about Monday of next week?" said Li Peicheng.
"Pei Cheng was raised by his grandfather since he was a child, and he is a filial son. Every year during winter and summer breaks, he would go back to accompany his grandfather for a few days before returning to school to work." Professor He interjected.
Because Li Peicheng started doing research assistant work in Professor He's laboratory during the summer vacation of his freshman year, Professor He was very familiar with Li Peicheng's situation.
"Good, good, talented and virtuous, there are too few young people like you these days! If my daughter Xuanxuan grows up to be half as good as you, I'll be over the moon!" Director Sun exclaimed.
Li Peicheng was praised by Director Sun to the point of being somewhat embarrassed, and for a moment he didn't know how to respond.
The three of them chatted for a while, and Director Sun and Li Peicheng basically reached an agreement on the time for tutoring. As for the money, neither side brought it up. After all, Director Sun was Professor He's classmate, and Li Peicheng was Professor He's student, so discussing this issue in front of Professor He would be inappropriate.
After leaving Professor He's office, it was almost five o'clock. Li Peicheng took his portable radio with him and strolled along the banks of Huajia Pond while listening to English dialogues. At five o'clock, he went to the school cafeteria for dinner.
There are four canteens in the school. Since it's summer vacation, there aren't many people in the school, so only one canteen is open. Although only one canteen is open, there still aren't many people, and you don't need to line up to buy food.
Li Peicheng spent 3 dollars and 50 cents on a meal, then rode his bicycle to the Tiesha River Riverside Park near school.
Tiesha River is a reserve drinking water river in Hangzhou, so it's very clean. The willow trees on both sides of the river provide shade, and there are lush green grasses and many long benches and pavilions. Although it's summer, this place has a rare freshness and coolness.
It was just getting off work at this time, and there were very few people in the park. Even if there were a few people, they were hidden in the dense shade of the trees in the park.
Li Peicheng found a secluded spot and sat down under a willow tree to begin his daily practice at noon.
Li Pei Xiang's qigong method is called "Chang Sheng Jue", which he learned from an old man with the surname Ge who lived at the foot of Gele Mountain by West Lake.
It all started with practicing qigong with the elderly, which dates back to a day in November 1998, when Li Peicheng had just arrived in Hangzhou for about two months.
That weekend, he took a bus to a student's home on Bauhinia Road for tutoring. On the bus, he ran into Keiko, who is now his master.
On the bus, it just so happened there were no seats available that day, Li Peicheng hastily gave up his seat to Ge Gu.
When Ge Gu was about to get off the bus, it just started raining. Li Peicheng had a habit of checking the weather forecast before going out, so he knew it would rain today and brought an umbrella. Seeing that Ge Gu's hair was white, he was afraid that the old man would catch a cold in the rain, and besides, the road was slippery on rainy days. The kind-hearted Li Peicheng got off the bus ahead of time.
"Old man, where is your home? I'll send you a ride!" Li Peicheng hurried up to Ge Gu and said softly.
Ge Gu's expression changed slightly as he glanced at Li Peicheng and said, "My home is under Gelingshan, it's still some distance from here."
Then Ge Gu looked at Li Peicheng, looking at this young man to see if he would send him. Li Peicheng had thought that Ge Gu's home was just nearby, but unexpectedly there was still a twenty-minute journey, back and forth, which delayed the time he gave his students lessons.
Ge Gu saw Li Peicheng hesitating and said: "Young man, don't bother, I'll just walk slowly!"
Li Peicheng didn't take offense at Ge Gu's sarcastic tone, but instead silently blamed himself for being selfish. He had a special affection for the old man because he was raised by his grandfather since childhood.
"No, no, I'm in a bit of a hurry, Grandpa, so I shouldn't linger for too long. How about this, let me help you hail a taxi instead?" Li Peicheng said.
"Are you paying for the taxi?" Ge Gu asked with a slant of his eyes.
Li Peicheng was made to cry and laugh by Ge Gu, but thinking about it, it's reasonable. If he doesn't pay for the taxi fare himself, can't he just take a taxi on his own? Does he need someone to remind him?
It seems that the children of this old man are unfilial, otherwise why would he be so stingy as to not even spend money on a taxi ride? Li Peicheng thought with some indignation.
"Of course I'll go!" Li Peicheng said with a smile, not getting angry at all.
Unfortunately, it was raining and the taxi business was booming, with not a single empty car in sight. Li Peicheng saw that waiting for a car wasn't an option, and besides, he would have to spend an extra 10 yuan, so he went to a roadside phone booth and made a call, apologizing to his student and explaining that he would be late, then personally escorted the elderly person home.
All the way, Li Peicheng carefully supported Ge Gu, and most of the umbrella was also covering Ge Gu's body, while he himself got soaked from head to toe.
"Want to learn martial arts?" Ge Gu, who looked frail and weak along the way, suddenly became spirited and asked coldly.
"Ah!" Li Peicheng was momentarily stunned.
Ge Gu ignored Li Pei Cheng's shocked expression and bent down to pick up a small stone from the side of the road.
He handed the small stone to Li Peicheng for a glance, then lightly pinched it, and it shattered!
"If you want to learn, meet me here at 5 o'clock tomorrow morning," Ge Gu said, and then he spiritedly turned from the North Mountain Road onto a winding small path. Before Li Peicheng could react, Ge Gu had already disappeared.
Li Peicheng walked along the path and soon saw a yellow brick archway with "Baopu" on one side and "Dao Yuan" on the other, and "Ge Ling" written horizontally above. Behind the archway was a stone staircase that led directly to an ancient Taoist temple complex, which was located halfway up Ge Ling Mountain.
This is one of the three Taoist temples in Hangzhou, Geleigongbao Temple, named after the famous Eastern Jin Dynasty Taoist Ge Hong who practiced and collected medicine to cure diseases for the people. The other two famous Taoist temples in Hangzhou are Huanglong Temple and Yu Huang Temple.
Thus, Li Pei Cheng paid respects to Ge Gu as his master and began his cultivation.
