Round 2: Settling the Score

  The Second Encounter

A sixteen or seventeen-year-old boy, wearing a green robe, suddenly rushed into the thatched hut. His appearance was quite handsome, but he felt somewhat lewd. He looked at Lin Wan'er with fiery eyes, but when he saw Shi Sheng, he hesitated for a moment.

"Huh? You're actually alive?" The young man in the green robe was clearly incredulous. Lin Wan'er clutched at Shi Sheng's sleeve, her weak and delicate body trembling slightly.

"I wasn't dead to begin with!" Shi Sheng was somewhat speechless, casting a disgusted glance at the youth in green: "You're not welcome here, don't stay!" He patted Lin Wan'er's hand and gave her a slight smile, indicating that everything was fine. Although he didn't have any feelings for her, Shi Sheng also had an instinctual desire to protect Lin Wan'er.

The young man in green robes before him was called Bai Ming, also an orphan, and could be considered a street urchin. Shi Sheng had some impression of him from his new memories.

Bai Ming often bullied Lin Wan'er, but since Lin's parents were still alive, Bai Ming didn't dare to act recklessly. In the past, he also frequently bullied Shi Sheng, who had a weak personality and didn't dare to fight back. It seemed that this time, he thought Shi Sheng was doomed to die, so he came to bother Lin Wan'er again. However, the current Shi Sheng is not like before, and it's clear that he's not an easy target to bully.

"Shi Sheng, you usually don't dare to speak in front of me, but this time you've escaped death and your courage has increased, and you still dare to drive me away? It seems that I must teach you a lesson." The young man in green robe took a few steps forward, speaking fiercely as if he was about to take action.

  Bang!

Shi Sheng instinctively raised his hand to grab Bai Ming's wrist, pushing Bai Ming's body back with a stumble. If not for the injury on his leg, Shi Sheng really wanted to teach him a lesson.

This scene shocked the young man in green, and even Lin Wan'er behind him was somewhat unexpected, staring blankly at Shi Sheng, as if looking at a stranger.

"How dare you resist?" The young man in the green robe was obviously a bully, and when Shi Sheng suddenly became so tough, he immediately lost his temper, but still spoke harshly.

"What's with the rebellion? From now on, it's best not to mess with Wen'er's sister again, or else you'll get beaten up every time I see you!" A cold glint flashed in Shi Sheng's eyes, and although he didn't seem to have any murderous intent, the young man in green had never seen Shi Sheng look so ferocious before, and he couldn't help but feel a little intimidated. After all, they were just 16 or 17 years old.

"You wait for Shi Sheng, you may not be dead, but I won't let you have a good time either. Lin Wan'er will be mine sooner or later. If you can't come up with ten cents within three days, I'll go report to the authorities and have all of you arrested!" The young man in green robes said as he turned around and walked away, muttering something under his breath as he left.

"Asheng, how did you suddenly become so brave? You even scared him away, that's amazing!" Lin Wan'er seemed to have forgotten the previous frightening scene, her face full of astonishment.

"Kids fight, give them a lesson and they'll be afraid. If someone is bullied and remains silent, the other party will become more and more reckless. That's just a kid's temperament!" Shi Sheng shrugged indifferently. As someone in his twenties, dealing with a child shouldn't be difficult, right? Besides, swallowing one's pride and staying silent wasn't exactly Shi Sheng's style!

Lin Wan'er burst out laughing: "You talk as if you're much older, but aren't you and Bai Ming also sixteen? I'm even a year older than you!" Lin Wan'er's original helplessness instantly disappeared, as if she had found a sense of security in front of Shi Sheng.

"What's with the ten cents?" Shi Sheng asked casually, at present, Lin Wan'er was the only trustworthy person around him. He couldn't let that little white kid take Wan'er away as a concubine. If he couldn't even protect his fiancée, he might as well die again.

Lin Wan'er's face suddenly darkened: "Last night, Bai Ming came to find me. Seeing that you had no breath left, I borrowed ten cents from him to prepare for your funeral. However, he didn't trust me and thought I wouldn't repay the debt. Later, I promised him that if I couldn't pay back within three days, I would be his servant..." After finishing speaking, Lin Wan'er's face revealed a hint of helplessness.

"I'm sorry, Sister Wan'er. It's all for my sake. Don't worry, I'll definitely find a way to pay back the 10 wen within three days. Help me take a walk outside!" Shi Sheng said. After he finished speaking, Lin Wan'er was worried that Shi Sheng's leg injury would relapse and opposed it twice, but she couldn't withstand Shi Sheng's repeated persistence, and finally had no choice but to support him as they came out of the house.

It was almost afternoon, the ninth day of the lunar month hung in mid-air, not a single breeze, the leaves of a large locust tree in front of the door were motionless. The yard was not big, with two bedrooms made of thatched grass, and the kitchen was right in between.

In the courtyard, there was a large water vat, a carrying pole with two wooden buckets, and a big millstone. There were no other objects around. Shi Sheng looked at these conditions and couldn't help but sigh. Especially when he saw the Nine Wheels Bloody Day, he was even more shocked.

"What a strange world!" thought Shisheng in his heart.

"Wan Er Jie, why don't the government soldiers go to suppress the bandits and capture the robbers?" Shi Sheng's memory of this part wasn't very clear, after speaking he walked towards the kitchen and another bedroom.

Lin Wan'er supported Shi Sheng and thought: "I heard that the government troops had made a move, but they suffered heavy casualties. The terrain of Wulongsan is treacherous, and ordinary people will get lost if they enter. Later, the government troops were short of supplies and did not make another move."

Shi Sheng arrived in the kitchen, only to find it even more dilapidated. A few blocks of wood were piled up next to the earthen stove, but after rummaging through the kitchen, there was no rice or grain to be found, likely all stolen by the robbers. The pot of porridge had been reduced to just three or four bowls, which he had previously complained was too thin.

Lin Wan'er's stomach was growling, apparently no one had the heart to drink. Shi Sheng couldn't help but feel a pang in his heart. These days wouldn't last long, he needed to think of a way to make ends meet soon. Especially with the ten cents owed to Bai Ming, otherwise Lin Wan'er would be in danger.

"Wan'er sister, besides fishing and hunting, what else can earn some money?" Shi Sheng remembered that Lin Wan'er's parents made a living by fishing and hunting. In this world, Shi Sheng often followed them to do some odd jobs, but he didn't have any skills himself, nor would he go fishing or hunting!

"Besides these two, I can go to the village to do some temporary work. Some big households need help with heavy chores and don't have enough servants, or they may have some small handicrafts that need to be done. I can also do those things. Neighbor Wu Auntie specializes in finding jobs for people, so villagers who want to work will go find her." Lin Wan'er said.

Having simply understood the situation, Shi Sheng nodded and said: "Alright, Wan'er sister, I'll go back to rest first. Tomorrow, I'll see if I can go out and earn some money. You should also hurry up and eat more."

"Sister had several bowls early this morning, Ah Sheng's body is weak now, you need to eat more, and don't go out tomorrow either, your body isn't well yet and needs rest." Lin Wan'er said as she was about to serve a bowl of porridge to Shi Sheng, but her own stomach was growling loudly.

"Wannier sister, I'm full, you can have the rest. Alright, I'll head back to my room first. Tomorrow, I'll go out and find some part-time work to earn some money." Shi Sheng's eyes reddened, he would be moved to tears even when watching a movie, let alone experiencing this personally. He really didn't want to lose face in front of Lin Wannier, at the same time, he was also deeply moved by Lin Wannier's gentle and considerate nature. This kind of woman deserved to be cherished!

Back in the house, Shi Sheng sat on the bed, staring blankly into the distance with a sigh: "Alas, I must think of a way to make some money to support ourselves. We can't let Wan Er go hungry, nor can we let others take her away!"

Shi Sheng suddenly thought of his old neighbor Lao Shen Bi, remembering that he had taught him the technique of cultivating his mind, and he himself had cultivated each layer.

Meditation and contemplation are just the basics, the first level is similar to self-hypnosis, the second level is actually a practice of mind power leaving the body, but they can't be considered as any secret methods, you can find a lot online!

At first, it was just the stress of studying that was too great, Shi Sheng would often meditate or self-hypnotize at night to alleviate the pressure, and the next day he would indeed feel refreshed and more relaxed.

According to the old master's words, after meditating and sensing the power of thought, it is considered to have entered the first layer, which can effectively induce self-hypnosis. When the first layer of cultivation reaches its peak but the power of thought is insufficient, psychological suggestion and other means can be used to hypnotize others with their cooperation.

Only when the second layer of Nian Li is cultivated to be strong enough to leave the body can one forcibly hypnotize others, and even possess some abilities that exceed human cognition, which are also known as special functions on earth, but almost no one can achieve it.

Wang Bo infused his intention into the external object, the talisman, to diagnose and treat illnesses in others. He also forcibly put me to sleep, although he used some psychological suggestions to make me relax. It seems that Wang Bo should be a cultivator of intention.

"Is the special function of the earth really an ancient cultivation secret? Can it finally cultivate the power of thought? In that case, wouldn't this world be more suitable for cultivating the power of thought?" Shi Sheng said with a stir in his heart.

She closed her eyes, Shi Sheng adjusted his mood, relaxed his body, and then skillfully entered the first layer of meditation. Before, he only felt that it was effective in treating insomnia.

A moment later, Shi Sheng felt his mind calm and the influence of external objects on himself had reached a minimum. The sound of the wind outside the house slowly weakened, and even became inaudible. The flow of time also became less noticeable.

Time slowly passed, the ninth sunset fell, a bright moon rose in the sky, and Shi Sheng was still immersed in meditation, also unaware of how much time had passed. After repeated failures, Shi Sheng suddenly felt an intangible power flowing slowly within his body.

It's strange that this power seems to have no fixed form, sometimes Shi Sheng fantasizes it is golden, and that eerie power transforms into a flowing body of golden light.

Sometimes it's like a fixed pearl, the energy slowly retracts and condenses into a ball, finally gathering in the dantian of the body, like the feeling between half asleep and half awake, that kind of vague and real sensation.

Shi Sheng exclaimed excitedly, "Is this the power of mind? It's indeed amazing. That old Taoist said that even those with good aptitude would take one or two years to sense it, but I tried before and didn't feel anything. It seems that the resource conditions in this world are more suitable for cultivators who practice mental techniques."

Just as Shi Sheng's mind was excited, he almost exited this meditative state. He hastily calmed his mind and carefully sensed for a while before attempting to use his consciousness to control the power of his thoughts, transforming them into tiny golden lights that slowly flowed towards the injured area on his leg. His consciousness continuously maintained an attitude of affirmation and trust, believing that this energy would allow his leg injury to heal quickly, similar to self-hypnotic psychological suggestion.

A miraculous scene appeared, Shi Sheng felt a golden light flashing on his legs, and the numbness and itching sensation reappeared, similar to drinking Wang Bo's talisman water, the pain was alleviated, but the effect was even greater than the talisman water and more lasting.

However, it's strange that once Shi Sheng doubted the existence of this kind of thought power or didn't believe in his own consciousness probing, he felt that his leg injury wouldn't heal and the golden light on his leg would quickly disappear, with the pain sensation surging again. But as soon as he regained his faith and controlled the thought power with his consciousness, the golden light on his leg would reappear.

"It's indeed not much different from the Earth's self-hypnosis. No wonder doctors won't tell patients they have a terminal illness. Once their mindset becomes negative and they don't believe they can recover, the patient unintentionally adds malignant energy to themselves, which will accelerate death."

People with terminal illnesses should maintain an optimistic attitude and believe that they will recover. A positive mindset represents a positive and positive consciousness, which unintentionally allows the power of thought to act on the part of the body where the disease is located, accelerating recovery.

It's just that this common sense known to everyone has no scientific basis, and no one believes in the existence of mind power, so it can only be used as a modern unexplainable therapeutic method. The mind power is indeed mysterious, but it seems difficult to cultivate to a high level on earth!" Sheng said with admiration.

Suddenly thinking of the terminal illness worsening, Shi Sheng used himself as a human test subject. Imagining that his leg injury was difficult to recover from and getting more severe by the minute, in just a short while, the golden light on his leg had not dissipated, but the pain he felt had intensified many times over compared to usual.

Just like a scratch on your hand, the more you think about it, the more it hurts. This is the effect of invisible mental power. Shi Sheng's mouth twitched in pain and he quickly began to cultivate seriously. It seems that conscious control over mental power can harm oneself, and after leaving the body, it can also attack others.

Unconsciously, the window outside became bright, Shi Sheng was still sitting on the bed motionless, although he hadn't slept all night, his mental state was extremely good, without any signs of fatigue.

After a night of meditation, Shi Sheng's leg injury had recovered by about 70-80%, which even he himself found hard to believe. It was as if the power of his thoughts really did exist and this further solidified his determination to continue cultivating.

"Just like the old saying, if you don't believe in the existence of love, how can you feel its power? Taoism talks about practicing emptiness to achieve reality, Buddhism talks about cultivating falsehood to return to truth, only with belief will it exist."

Empty energy enters the body, borrowing emptiness to practice reality, condensing reality into truth, collectively known as the Cultivation of Truth School. In fact, it is the same theory as Nianli (mind power), borrowing emptiness to practice reality, condensing reality into truth, ultimately achieving the Great Way!

I possess the knowledge of hypnosis from Earth, and I think it will be easier to cultivate it here. I don't know what level I can reach in the end, but for now, this world seems more suitable for cultivating mental powers than Earth!" Shi Sheng said with a faint smile.

"Ah!" Suddenly, a sharp cry came from next door, Lin Wan'er. Shi Sheng suddenly remembered that little white Ming, his face changed slightly, and he rushed out of the room! (End of this chapter, next chapter is more exciting!)
