Chapter Forty-Four: Overnight in a Desolate Town
The crowd left Butterfly Valley and walked for half a day without seeing any villages or towns, only desolate mountains and wild ridges, with wolves howling and eagles wailing all around.
After walking for several more li, they got on a main road and soon arrived at a small town.
Finally, they saw a village in the distance. Yu Lianzhu and others couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. Before it even got dark, every household in the town had their doors tightly closed, and there wasn't even a single person on the streets.
This town is neither big nor small, with over a hundred shops, but at first glance, it's a dead town. The sunset has not yet faded, and the streets are as quiet as in the middle of the night.
Everyone looked at each other in dismay when they saw this.
Finally, Song Qing said, "Second Master and Fourth Master, the sky is already late today. Let's find a place to rest here first and make plans for tomorrow."
"It's also good this way." Yu Lianzhou and Zhang Songxi exchanged a glance and nodded.
The crowd walked a short distance and turned a corner on the street, seeing a white cloth sign in front of an inn with "Yue Lai Old Shop" written on it. However, the gate was tightly closed, quiet and still without any sound.
Qing Yu knocked on the door and waited for a moment before knocking again, but after a long time, no one answered.
"Shopkeeper, is anyone there? Please open the door!" His voice was clear and loud, and as a martial artist, his voice could carry far. Even with several courtyards in between, someone should have heard him by now. However, no one responded from within the inn, making the situation seem rather strange. He pressed his ear against the door panel to listen, but there was complete silence inside. Turning around, he said, "Master Uncle, there's no one inside."
Zhang Songxi looked up and glanced at the town, which was quiet and still, and said, "Since it's like this here, I suppose other places are the same."
"In that case, let's spend the night here tonight." Yu Lianzhou decided with a pat on the board.
After bustling about for so long, they can finally have a good rest. Everyone ate some dry rations and found their own room to sleep in, falling asleep as soon as they lay down.
It was midnight when a sudden burst of clashing steel awakened the Wudang crowd from their dreams.
Everyone got up and gathered in the center of the hall, without lighting or speaking.
Yu Lianzhou quietly listened for a while before saying, "The sound is coming from the south."
"It's three o'clock in the middle of the night, and this abandoned town has someone fighting." Zhang Songxi said, "It seems that tonight is going to be lively indeed."
"You stay here, I'll go with your fourth uncle to take a look." Yu Lianzhu thought for a moment and then said to Song Qingchu, "Be careful in everything, if there's any change, don't fight to the end."
"Yes, I know." Song Qing Shu said.
Yu Lianzhou nodded and exchanged a glance with Zhang Songxi. The two of them left the inn and headed straight for where the sounds of fighting were coming from.
Waiting is the most anxious thing. Song Qing Shu and a group of third-generation disciples gathered in the central hall, waiting for Yu Lian Zhou and Zhang Song Xi.
But the two men were gone for half a day, and yet they did not return. The crowd only heard the sound of clashing weapons in the distance, and the cries of battle never ceased.
Among the crowd, Song Qing's power was the most profound, and only he could vaguely feel that Yu Lianzhu and Zhang Songxi had already joined the battlefield.
................................................................
Needless to say how anxious the crowd in Yue Lai Lao Dian was at this time, but on the south side of the town, the scene of the fight was entirely different.
"Second Brother, Fourth Brother." A middle-aged couple sitting on the side couldn't help but exclaim when they saw two people suddenly jumping out.
"Haha, I wonder who it is. It turns out to be Yu Er Xia and Zhang Si Xia of the renowned Wudang Sect." On the other side, a man in black standing aside had initially looked at Yu Lian Zhou and Zhang Song Xi with great surprise, but upon hearing the middle-aged man's words, he let out a strange laugh.
"Not bad, it's indeed Wudang Yu Er, but I don't know where my fifth junior brother offended you, to the point of being so ruthless." Although he was fighting with someone, his voice remained loud and clear when speaking, obviously Yu Lianzhou was in control.
"Hmph, Zhang Wuxia and I had no grudges in the past, nor did we have any enemies recently. It's just that our lord has given an order, so I must ask Zhang Wuxia to come with me... what a pity..." The old man in black sighed and shook his head as he spoke.
"You're just trying to get your hands on the Dragon Slaying Sword, that's all." Zhang Cuishan retorted with a sarcastic tone, not even giving the old man in black a glance.
Just then, a sudden "ah" cry of despair was heard, and everyone looked around in the direction of the sound. One of the three old men who were fighting against the man in black was caught off guard and slapped.
"Uncle Fu!"
"Big brother!"
"Big brother!"
Seeing the old man injured, Yin Susu and two other elderly people couldn't help but cry out.
It turned out that these three people were Yin Wu Fu, Yin Wu Lu and Yin Wu Shou, who were under the command of Bai Mei Eagle King to serve Yin Su Su.
Luckily they met each other and encountered danger together. If it weren't for them, Zhang Cuishan and Yin Susu might not have been able to hold on any longer.
"Haha, now you're one man short, and with two more wounded, I think even if you had wings, you'd struggle to fly today." The old man in black robes laughed gleefully.
"Is that so?" Just then, a voice suddenly sounded in the ear of the black-clothed old man, who was startled and hurriedly tried to use his lightness skill to leave.
Unfortunately, there is no such good thing as a free lunch.
Only a sharp sword was seen piercing through the front chest of the black-robed elder from behind, if not for the black-robed elder who had just dodged to the side in time, avoiding his heart, otherwise even Da Luo Golden Immortal might not be able to save him now.
However, he still didn't escape the palm that followed closely behind.
The old man in black was struck by a palm and flew out, blood splashing three feet, his eyes wide open. He never dreamed that the previous moment was still hopeful of victory, but the next moment he himself was dead. It's really the will of heaven playing tricks on people.
This sudden turn of events shocked everyone present, and people involuntarily stopped their struggle, looking towards the person who had just appeared.
Under a round moon, a man in white clothes held a sharp sword, his white clothes fluttering, the tip of the sword dripping with fresh blood.
"The Green Book."
"The Green Book."
Yu Lianzhou and Zhang Songxi saw that it was Song Qingchu, and they couldn't help but feel extremely delighted.
"How did you get here."
"This is not the time for talking, let's deal with these people first." Song Qingyu did not respond to Yu Lianzhou's words, but instead pointed his sword at the remaining black-clothed men.
Although the leader of the black-clad men, the old man in black, had already fallen under Song Qing's sword, the remaining dozen or so black-clad men were still a trouble to be dealt with.
The old man in black has died, and with the addition of Song Qing Shu, the outcome is naturally self-evident.
