Chapter Thirty: The Heartless Salesman
"You see, if you had found me earlier, perhaps your fate in the mortal world would have been different." The ugly girl gazed at her purple long fingernails and said slowly: "One must believe in fate, and not look down on me. There are many people who don't know their place, and insist on fighting against fate, well, let's just wait and see."
"Ah, noble gods of fate, I already know my mistake. Please, no matter what, save the little girl... As for me, it doesn't matter anymore. I also know that this gift is too thin, I don't ask for a good life in the next generation, I just want to bring happiness to the little girl." The man said, with bright red blood overflowing from his eyes.
"Oh, what you said has indeed moved me... Alas, I know my greatest weakness is having a soft heart, can't bear to see pitiful ghosts. However, you should know that human fate is predetermined, even I can hardly change anything, I can only follow the rules and do things accordingly, heaven's will cannot be defied."
"God of fate, I beg of you," the man suddenly prostrated himself at the ugly girl's feet. "I am willing to be your ox and horse, never to be reincarnated or promoted in life after life, listening to your dispatch for life after life, just begging you to grant my daughter happiness."
"You humans are the most cunning, with a different story on your face and another behind your back. The sweet words you're speaking now might just be a knife in my back later... But who made me born with a compassionate heart? Alright, I'll give you a chance since it's hard to find someone with paternal love like yours. Recently, the glorious and great King of the Underworld has entrusted me with another important task, letting me continue to manage the fate of the world between heaven and earth. To be honest, I'm already tired and want to retire, cultivate my spirit, and live a comfortable life. But the ghost world still needs me to put in effort... Unfortunately, there's a lack of backup ghosts, so I have no choice but to work hard myself. Although I'm at a high level and could have servant ghosts, I've always believed in not being special, working diligently and selflessly, which is my true nature. However, my energy isn't what it used to be, and to better serve the ghost citizens, I really need a reliable helper... You seem loyal, and helping you solve your employment difficulties in the ghost world would also be a good deed... Alright, I'll reluctantly accept you, but I'll test you for a period of time. During this time, don't expect any pay from me, and don't think about using the servant law to threaten me. Only when you pass the evaluation will I officially hire you, and at that time, your daughter's fate will also be secured."
The ugly girl finished speaking with a twisted mouth, and her face showed a cold and stern expression again.
"Thank the gods of fate, it is my honor to serve you. I will devote myself fully until death, and not ask for any reward." The man finished speaking, then fell down again.
"Get up, take off the strange clothes on your daughter's body. In the underworld, it's different from the world above, wearing such strange and weird clothes is not decent at all! A little ghost head, pick some forget-me-not grass by the roadside to weave a dress, it looks better than this one." The ugly girl gave me a cold look, said that, then turned around and left without looking back.
In the dim light, only I and this man who claims to be my father are left.
"Are you really my father?" I asked timidly.
"Fei, it's all Father's fault, letting you suffer such a disaster..." The man stretched out his hand and stroked the back of my head. When he withdrew his palm, I saw that his hand was stained with dark red blood.
"Ah, your hand!" I exclaimed in terror, pointing at his hand.
"It's on your head, Fei Er, looks like you really don't remember..."
"Oh! I'm bleeding from the head," I cried out in tears, "What should I do? I'm bleeding from the head!"
"It doesn't matter, look at my chin, it doesn't matter, we've already become numb to the pain, our bodies are just a moving tool for us now, and won't hurt anymore, but the heart still will." The man said, choking back tears.
"Sold out! Sold out! Absolutely authentic, pure and kind heart without any contamination." A hoarse voice suddenly came over, a thick black fog revealed a disheveled figure with a messy head and tattered clothes. The figure slowly walked closer, and the person's face gradually became visible. A pair of eyes that seemed to have been cut open by a knife revealed a narrow slit, from which a turbid light shot out. A collapsed nose that was almost invisible, only slightly raised two nostrils, which were black as if filled with coal. A mouth propped open by large purple-red teeth, the teeth were very solid, like two pickaxes that could be used to dig at any time, tightly biting the lower lip.
"Buy a heart, it's just out of the oven, take advantage of the heat, buy one, and press it onto this little devil, from now on, she will willingly follow you, as your loyal servant."
When he spoke, his buck teeth still bit his lips, and only saw his chin trembling, without seeing the opening of his mouth.
"Go! Go! Don't!" The man waved his hand impatiently.
"Heh, your daughter doesn't even recognize you anymore. If you don't get her something to hold onto, once she's gone to the afterlife, she'll forget about you completely." Big Buck Teeth laughed with glee, his two sloping shoulders shaking up and down like two balloons floating in mid-air.
"I said no! My money isn't for buying hearts, it's for my daughter to buy happiness in her next life. Whether she recognizes me or not doesn't matter, as long as she can be happy!"
"Hahaha......" The big buck-toothed man laughed so hard that he was out of breath, and almost fell to the ground with a stumble.
"Let's go, don't stay with this kind of scoundrel." The man pulled me up by the hand and was about to leave.
"Halt! You dare!" The big buck-toothed man suddenly shouted, jumping out in front of us and blocking our way. "This land was opened up by me, this tree was planted by me. Since you've come to my territory, whether you want to buy or not, you must buy. I won't tolerate your refusal!"
"Ghost merchant! I'll buy your heart." A shrill voice rose, carrying a thick chill and an inexplicable gloom.
I couldn't help but lean in close to the man, and he wrapped his arm around me, while a look of terror appeared on his face. He frantically turned his head, searching for the source of the sound everywhere.
"Hehe, I won't sell it to you! I don't like ghosts who actively buy hearts, I like selling my heart to ghosts who don't want to buy it."
"Why?" The voice was tinged with surprise.
"Hehe, I don't like it when people get what they want. I don't want to see you guys getting your way. I just like seeing people who want to buy something can't buy it, and those who don't want to buy have to buy anyway."
"You're a freak! I'll give you a good price." The voice continued to echo, but no ghostly figure was seen.
"Pervert ghost? Hehe, I like to listen, I like being a pervert ghost. I won't sell my heart to you, but I'll sell it to this ugly ghost with no chin instead! Ugly ghost, catch it, the heart is coming, bring the money!" Da Kou Ya said, and suddenly his hand swung up, a bloody heart with a strong stench was thrown into the air, and it seemed to be flying in my direction.
I felt a suffocating sensation, at which point the man stretched out his hand and made a grab in the direction he was staring, with a splat, a sound rang out, and this heart immediately turned into dark red blood water in his hand, flowing down along the gap between his fingers.
"Pay me back my heart! Pay me back my heart!" The big buck-toothed man's face changed, his two large buck teeth became razor-sharp, and he waved his hands wildly, rushing up like a madman. He immediately hugged the man's body, and the man struggled with all his might, but the big buck-toothed man's strength seemed enormous, quickly tightening his grip on the man's arm, binding him like a large rice dumpling. The man had no strength to struggle except for his feet kicking futilely on the ground.
The big buck-toothed man grinned, stretched out his sharp fingers and stabbed them into the man's chest with precision.
