Chapter 12: Brotherly Love (04)
The passage of time, no matter how you say it, is always ticking away one second at a time. In reality, it's impossible for a day to pass in the blink of an eye or for a year to end with just a few gasps. However, if someone were to hold onto a pocket watch and count down the seconds as they live their life, things would be vastly different. It often makes people feel like half the day has passed when in fact only a few short minutes have gone by, and it also fills one's heart with anxiety and makes time unbearable.
At this moment, Li Jia was feeling this strange "pain".
Last night's "family meeting", Father gave Li Jia a "glorious and arduous" task, which was to assist her brother Li Donglin in inviting Chen Haonan home.
It's been a long time since Li Jia saw Chen Haonan, and thinking that she would see him soon made her exceptionally excited. She almost lost sleep last night because of this. However, early this morning, just as the sky was lighting up, she got out of bed early - perhaps something had stirred her vague heart...
Li Donglin's fourth class ended at 12:00, and Li Jia estimated that she would go to Yannan S Middle School around 11:40 - probably just a dozen or so minutes in advance!
After hastily eating a little breakfast, Li Jia began to count the time. But the clock on the wall seemed to be deliberately opposing her, moving slowly as if it would forever stay in its original position. This made Li Jia extremely angry in her heart, and every time she looked at the clock on the wall, she scolded it severely. Fortunately, the innocent clock didn't understand human language or emotions, otherwise it would have jumped down from the wall and started a fierce fight with Li Jia. Nevertheless, it continued to move slowly...
She didn't even know when Li Jia closed her eyes and dozed off on the sofa. When she suddenly woke up, her first thought was to look at the clock. Seeing that it showed 11:32, her heart became a little anxious, but fortunately, she hadn't overslept; she couldn't help but laugh out loud.
A fish jumped up, and Li Jia hurriedly ran back to her own small house. She put on the clothes she had prepared in advance, and then wore a new pair of sports shoes. Then, she messed with her hair in front of the mirror. After comparing and admiring herself, she couldn't help but laugh at herself. Before going downstairs, she even sprayed a little perfume on her body, which was something she rarely used.
The main gate of S Middle School is located right across from the Li family's house. Although it's said to be close at hand, just a short walk down the central street and then up a small slope, walking on the streets of Linfeng Town is not a simple matter. Because the streets are lined with piles of wood, shavings and sawdust everywhere, and on sunny days it's still okay, but if it rains, people will easily get their shoes wet, or even slip and fall. Fortunately, Li Jia was very familiar with the condition of the street, she tiptoed, quickly crossed the street, and then ran to the gate of S Middle School.
As soon as she walked to the school gate, Zhao Dajie immediately came out of the delivery room. He smiled and said: "Jiajia, you're here to find your brother again?" Zhao Dajie's family lives in Linfeng Town, and they are very close to the Li family, so they are naturally very familiar with them. When he saw Li Jia coming, he immediately came out smiling.
"Yes, my mom asked me to come and call my brother back home for dinner!" Seeing Zhao's smiling face and warm welcome, Li Jia immediately smiled and said in her sweet voice. Then, she asked with a smile: "Grandpa Zhao, have you eaten yet?"
"Not yet, but I just brought lunch from the cafeteria and it's on the table!" As he spoke, Old Zhao opened the small side door of the delivery room. He hurriedly called out to Li Jia, "Girl, hurry up and find him! Otherwise, after class is over, your brother will probably run off somewhere to play - where will you go looking for him?"
Smiling, Li Jia quickly walked through the door. After thanking Old Man Zhao, she rushed towards the new teaching building, leaving behind Old Man Zhao's faint smile as he watched her skipping figure fade into the distance...
