Chapter 10: The Man's Unwillingness
As soon as the words came out, Han Bin realized his impulsiveness. Just now in the KTV room, he was in high spirits, watching Wan Chao Hui suddenly leave with an excuse of chest tightness. Han Bin inexplicably worried about her, and only to avoid suspicion, he waited until Ye Caiyun came out before pulling Zeng Tao along too. To avoid arousing Zeng Tao's suspicions, Han Bin restrained his urge to search for Wan Chao Hui everywhere, pretending to watch other classmates play cards, but his mind was already like an ant on a hot pot: restless and anxious. Fortunately, Zeng Tao discovered Ye Caiyun outside and pulled him out.
Han Bin felt a sense of relief when he saw Wan Chao Hui looking fine, but then he saw her smiling and chatting with Wu Jia Yi. He couldn't help but feel a surge of anger in his heart. Why was she smiling so happily in front of another guy? Did she dislike him? Han Bin suddenly remembered the time in high school when Wan Chao Hui and Lin Bo Yang sang a duet of "Xiao Xiao Zou Yihui". At that time, she had also smiled brightly, making him feel jealous of Lin Bo Yang. But earlier, he had overheard Wan Chao Hui talking to Dai Xin, saying that she and Lin Bo Yang were just ordinary friends. Han Bin wasn't too happy about it. So when they were in the KTV room and Wan Chao Hui wanted to sing "Qian Fu De Ai", he was surprised and delighted. He didn't expect her to be good at singing popular folk songs, just like him! Han Bin hesitated for a moment before finally gathering the courage to ask her to sing together. But when they were halfway through the song, Wan Chao Hui suddenly ran out of the room. It was really disappointing. Han Bin thought that maybe she wasn't feeling well, but now it seemed like she might have been afraid of people misunderstanding their relationship. Was she interested in Lin Bo Yang? Or did she just like to flirt with different guys? Han Bin carefully observed Wan Chao Hui and felt that she looked very innocent and lovely, not at all like the kind of girl his mom always warned him about. Many questions swirled in Han Bin's mind. So when he heard Wan Chao Hui asking Yu Jing something, he couldn't help but blurt out: "What, you think of him?" Han Bin was shocked by his own impulsive words. What was wrong with him? This wasn't like him at all! He was always a calm person!
Wan Zhaohui deliberately changed the subject to shift their attention, "Do you remember? At that time, you and Yu Jing had a good relationship! You often shared instant noodles together!"
"Never mind, it's so embarrassing!" After only half a year of university life, Wu Jiayi's mindset had matured a lot. He suddenly realized why he always liked to tease Wan Zhaohui - in fact, deep down, he really liked her! At this moment, hearing Wan Zhaohui talk about his immature past self, he couldn't help but blush.
"What's wrong, I think it's very real and lovely!" Wan Chao Hui spoke out her true feelings! Because she didn't expect that Wu Jia Yi had already grown up, and his affection for her as a classmate had turned into romantic feelings between a man and a woman.
"Really? You really think so?" Wu Jiayi asked excitedly, as an only child, he had always disliked those pretentious and coquettish girls, he liked Wan Zhaohui's straightforwardness and authenticity, let alone Wan Zhaohui was also so beautiful and pure.
"Need I lie to you among us classmates?" Wan Zhaohui looked at Wu Jiayi's expression, suddenly realizing that her own sincerity had given him a misunderstanding, so she deliberately mentioned "among us classmates", indicating to Wu Jiayi that she just treated him as a classmate and nothing more.
Wu Jiayi wasn't a fool either, he heard the implicit tone in Wan Zhaohui's emphasis on "we classmates", his expression immediately fell and lost confidence to further express his good feelings towards Wan Zhaohui.
On the side, Han Bin, who seemed to be chatting and laughing with Zeng Tao and Ye Caiyun, was actually paying attention to Wan Chao Hui and Wu Jia Yi's conversation at all times. When he heard Wan Chao Hui's words, a faint smile involuntarily appeared on the corner of his mouth.
This boring classmate gathering finally ended after two hours.
At night, Wan Zhaohui was watching TV at home when she received a call from Lin Boyang. "How did you feel about today's gathering?" Wan Zhaohui smiled helplessly, guessing that Lin Boyang wouldn't be able to resist calling her, given his usual behavior.
"Aren't you supposed to be all-knowing? Why are you still asking me?" Wan Chao Hui had habitually bickered with Lin Bo Yang. Lin Bo Yang just happened to love her tone, which was not easily obedient. From Wan Chao Hui's tone, it wasn't hard to tell that today's gathering didn't count for much!
"If I were as wise as Zhuge Kongming in your eyes, why wouldn't you accept my pursuit and be my girlfriend?" Lin Boyang pressed on, unwilling to accept Wan Chao Hui's rejection. From the fact that Wan Chao Hui liked to lift her chin, Lin Boyang felt that she often spoke insincerely and didn't mean what she said.
"Do you think this is interesting? I've made up my mind and it won't change. If you're not satisfied, we can just cut off our friendship!" Wan Chao Hui said firmly, she didn't like Lin Bo Yang's repetitive probing, since she had already said she wouldn't be his girlfriend, then she absolutely wouldn't, but he didn't believe her, really didn't know what he was thinking.
"Alright! I guess I said something wrong, let's just be good friends! ok?" Whenever Lin Boyang faced Wan Chao Hui's rejection, he would take a step back and adopt a strategy of retreat. However, this time Lin Boyang was really a bit skeptical about whether Wan Chao Hui was serious or not. Her words: "I've made up my mind, it won't change!" sounded firm and resolute, unlike something she would say casually.
It had been since high school that Lin Boyang had learned to be cautious of Wan Chao Hui's determination. He remembered that during his high school days, he was an avid music lover and one weekend when he went back to school for a boarding stay, he forgot to bring his charger. So, he asked Wan Chao Hui, who walked to school every day, to take his battery home to charge it. At first, Wan Chao Hui reluctantly agreed, but the next morning she handed over the fully charged battery to Lin Boyang. However, within a day, Lin Boyang had already used up all the power, and before class was dismissed, he asked Wan Chao Hui again to help him charge his phone.
Wan Chao Hui, although also disinterested in studying, still forced herself to learn more out of consideration for her parents. Seeing Lin Boyang waste his time like this made her feel annoyed and frustrated. No matter how much Lin Boyang pestered her, even when he pretended to be pitiful, she still refused to agree. In the end, she threw down the sentence: "I've made up my mind, it won't change!" and stubbornly refused to give in.
In Lin Boyang's eyes, Wan Chao Hui was a person with a strong personality, difficult to figure out! That's why he still remembered this incident vividly. Lin Boyang really couldn't understand why Wan Chao Hui wouldn't agree to be his girlfriend. What was it about him that she wasn't satisfied with? Was it because of his poor academic performance? It couldn't be, as Lin Boyang had already tested the waters during high school and found out that Wan Chao Hui didn't have any good feelings towards those book-smart boys, and even showed a disdainful expression in her eyes.
Lin Boyang was feeling annoyed, lit a Great Wall cigarette, and there were many famous cigarettes at home, all of which were given to his stepfather by others. Lin Boyang's biological parents divorced when he was in the first grade of elementary school. His mother, who worked in a bank, looked down on her father who was incompetent and couldn't make money. In business dealings, she got along with a boss who ran a pawnshop and sold bottled sauces, and they eventually got married. The mother used her position at the bank to help her current husband get loans and expand his business. Over three years, their business grew bigger and bigger. To solidify her own position, Lin Boyang's mother took a risk at the age of 33 and became pregnant, but unfortunately gave birth to a girl! However, Lin Boyang's stepfather was not bad to him. When Lin Boyang was in junior high school, he tried smoking for the first time. At that time, he was one of the top three students in his class, and every exam was a great success. He was a good student who was loved by teachers and classmates, and had a strong desire to learn. Smoking was just to satisfy his curiosity, and he hadn't developed any bad habits yet. After entering high school, Lin Boyang's stepfather started having an affair, and his mother would often quarrel with him. His mother, who was immersed in pain, became addicted to playing mahjong and neglected to take care of Lin Boyang. Lin Boyang's grades began to decline, and he gradually picked up his stepfather's bad habits, such as betting on horse racing, playing video games, and chasing after pretty girls. In the first year of high school, Lin Boyang started kissing girls, and in the second year, he lost his virginity to a three-year-older social worker girl, marking the end of his innocent era.
After entering university, Lin Boyang's game of chasing girls became even more crazy. In one semester, he had relationships with three girls, each lasting less than a month. Gradually, he discovered that all the girls he had been in contact with were the same - either they wanted his money or his good looks and charm. No one truly understood the emptiness and loneliness deep within him. On lonely nights, Lin Boyang would light a cigarette and watch as the smoke curled up, thinking involuntarily of Wan Chao Hui. He would see her eyes in front of him - sometimes playful and cute, sometimes melancholic and unpredictable. He recalled the moments they shared together, and Lin Boyang felt like he saw a shadow of himself in Wan Chao Hui. Therefore, he had a strong affection for Wan Chao Hui that didn't want to be mixed with games. However, his self-esteem was very strong, and sometimes Wan Chao Hui's icy gaze would pierce his self-esteem like a sharp sword. He feared getting hurt but couldn't control himself from pursuing Wan Chao Hui - the desire to get her was extremely strong. Lin Boyang, who usually took the initiative, became passive when facing Wan Chao Hui. On the surface, it seemed like he was always taking the lead, but Wan Chao Hui's enigmatic and unpredictable nature made him anxious and unable to control himself. He wanted to give up, but he didn't want to admit defeat. He wanted to continue, but he didn't know how to proceed. He had already used all his thoughts on Wan Chao Hui and was at a loss for what to do with her! His heart was always left hanging in the air, and the feeling of being lost made Lin Boyang extremely uncomfortable!
