Chapter 21
Before going to the South China Sea, Gong Xi came again, bringing a lot of things: sunscreen, mosquito repellent, salted bayberries, sour fruit leather, and tea bags for making cold tea. All were packed in a moisture-proof travel bag and handed over to Ming Lang, with detailed instructions on what each item was and how to use it.
"He's lucky to have you take care of him since he can't even take care of himself."
A small heart that had just calmed down was again bubbling with sourness.
"No need, we've all prepared." Ming Lang took a deep breath and handed the bag back.
Good fortune stood behind Ming Lang, apologetically looking at Gong Xi, but couldn't say any comforting words.
Gong Xi glanced at Yong Le and smiled knowingly, saying: "Take that too, the conditions are harsh there, it's better to prepare more than not enough." Gong Xi hesitated for a moment, then turned to Ming Lang and said: "Ming Lang, come here, I have a few words to say to you."
With a calm face, he handed the thing to Lucky and turned around to follow Gong Xi, asking as they walked: "What's up? Do you have to tell me separately?"
Jiayu walked a little further ahead, estimating that Xingyun couldn't hear them anymore, before stopping and turning around to face Minglang. His expression had lost its earlier warmth and foolishness, replaced by a cold sternness: "Minglang, I trust you and consider you a brother, so when Xingyun is with you, I don't say anything else and back out. But if you treat Xingyun badly, then don't blame me for being impolite, and I also won't let Xingyun be with you again."
Brightly, like a scalded cat, he jumped up with a loud cry: "What qualifications do you have to come and teach me? Do I treat him well or not, you don't even have the right to say that you know? You want to be rude to me? What makes you think you can be rude to me? Is it because you let Lucky get a big mouth over a foot long on his chest? Is it because you let Lucky lie in the emergency room, with nurses holding critical condition notices for us to sign? Is it because you almost got Lucky expelled from school?"
With a loud shout, he pointed at Gong Xi with one hand, his anger burning like fire. He hated Gong Xi the most right now, and couldn't believe that he had come to challenge him in person.
"You will never have the qualification to mention luck to me again." Ming Lang glared at Gong Xi.
Kiyomi's face remained calm and unruffled, unmoved by his opponent's fierce words. Three years of devilish training had tempered Kiyomi into a cool-headed, strong as a bear, sharp as an eagle man.
"I know how much I owe to luck, so in the days to come, no matter what identity I stand by luck's side, I will do my best to make up for it. However, my hurt is not an excuse for you to arbitrarily hurt luck, I warn you, Ming Lang, this is already the second time I've seen you hurt luck, if there's a next time, I won't forgive you."
As soon as Gong Xi finished speaking, Ming Lang had already swung a punch right in front of Gong Xi's eyes. "Damn it, you're like a mistress meddling between us, and now you dare to lecture me?! This is really unbearable!"
Jiayu's hand slapped down and grabbed Minglang's hand that was swung in front of him, and with a slight exertion of force, half of Minglang's body suddenly went numb. Except for his face which still looked ferocious and unwilling to admit defeat, his body had already become completely immobile.
"Be clear, don't resort to violence with me. Violence can't solve any problem. I only have one request, treat him well, otherwise, I won't be polite anymore and will definitely take him back by my side."
When the two returned in front of Xing Yun again, they had both recovered to a sunny day, Gong Xi's silly smile hung on his face like a big sun.
"Lucky, I'll head back first, and I'll come send you off tomorrow morning."
Tomorrow, they will be gone. Gong Xi's heart is truly reluctant to part with them, having been separated for three years and just reunited, only to have to separate again. This hurts him more than seeing her stand beside someone else, but he can't show even a hint of it, so he can only smile as he watches her leave, unable to say even a single word like "I'll miss you".
Lucky smiled and said: "No need, it's such a long way, don't come over, we'll take the team's car to the airport in the morning."
"Let's part ways then, it's so far away, we won't even get to say goodbye easily." Gong Xi's desolation was somewhat hard to conceal, no matter how she restrained herself, her eyes still turned red.
Gong Xi hastily turned around, with his back facing Xing Yun and Ming Lang, waving his hand: "Let's go, see you tomorrow."
In the blink of an eye, tears rolled down from her eyes, tracing along the bridge of her nose and sliding down, but Gong Xi dared not lift her hand to wipe them away, fearing being discovered by the people behind her.
He walked out for a long time before he finally stopped, looked up, and reached out to wipe away his tears, only to find that they had already dried, leaving behind only the tight sensation where the tears had flowed.
Letting go and watching him be with someone else, is that really the right choice? Gong Xi was perplexed. The high sky, deep blue like a block of transparent crystal, seemed to bring good fortune, so clean and refreshing that it made one want to embrace it, to get close to it. That crystal had once been hers, but she had pushed it into someone else's arms. Should he resent her? Resent his own father? If it weren't for him deceiving her back then, saying that as long as she obediently stayed in the car for three years, he would definitely make them happy together, he would take good care of Gong Xi, and replace her to take good care of Gong Xi. But what had he done?
If he had been more resolute and insisted on returning home from the beginning, would his good fortune still be someone else's today? If he hadn't given up escaping from that base back then, would his good fortune have suffered so much hardship?
The resentment is towards oneself, it's one's own indecisiveness that led to today's outcome. If good fortune will bring happiness from now on, then shouldn't one let go too? Isn't his happiness one's greatest wish?
Jiade took a deep breath of the cool autumn air, as if making up his mind not to look back, and quickly got on the bus, returning to the city.
