Chapter 55: A Movie, Pure White Love Affair
We came out of the restaurant and headed for the cinema. We were all in a good mood.
There are many people on the street. Today is a day off, the weather is good, and it's just the season when spring is warm and flowers are blooming, so people naturally want to come out and relax.
The cinema had a very long queue, and the hall was in an uproar. Fortunately, there were many ticket windows, so it didn't take long to get in.
The cinema is showing a shocking new movie, but the classic section has some nostalgic old movies. When I saw "Love Letter", my eyes didn't want to leave it anymore. "Love Letter", a work by Shunji Iwai. I read this book before and still can't forget it until now. At that time, when it was first released, I was too young and missed watching it while reading the book. After many years, it's re-released again, how could I miss it again?
"Qing Yi, what do you want to see?" Xia Wenyu asked beside me.
"Love Letter." I replied without hesitation.
"But this movie is very sad, I'm afraid you'll cry." He looked worried.
"I want to see," I said.
"Alright, alright, I'll listen to you."
"Hehe, it's always you who relies on me!"
"I'll follow you!"
The small town with heavy snow in the film, that romance which can never be realized, the melancholic atmosphere is so intense. The romantic and sorrowful story left a deep impression on me.
The story begins with Natsumi Watanabe's deep memories of her late boyfriend, Tatsuya Fujii. She couldn't forget him and decided to send a letter filled with greetings and longing to Tatsuya in heaven. However, she unexpectedly received a reply from "Tatsuya Fujii". It was later revealed that the letter was written by a young woman named Tatsuya Fujii, who happened to be a classmate of the late Tatsuya during his high school days. The address had been mistakenly copied by Natsumi from her boyfriend's yearbook.
Their subsequent exchange of letters allowed Fujii Taka to gradually discover, through constant reminiscence, that the boy with the same name and surname as her in middle school had once harbored a vague yet sincere feeling for her, which was so desolate.
There's a scene in the movie that I think is like a sad and beautiful flower blooming in my heart. It was their last meeting, but she didn't know it at the time. Toshiki Fujiwara came to her house and asked her to return the book "In Search of Lost Time" that he had borrowed. The girl asked him why he couldn't return it himself, and Toshiki said he couldn't. A week later, the girl went to school and found out that Toshiki had transferred to Kobe. So she put "In Search of Lost Time" back on her bookshelf. Little did she know, "In Search of Lost Time" would become her last memory of Toshiki, because he was already gone.
Later, Fujii Ki died due to mountain difficulties.
What a sigh-worthy story! What stays in people's hearts is the lingering sorrow, yet still with a hint of sweet aftertaste.
In the film, we see: The world of white snow, Ms. Watanabe Hiroko stumbling and running on the snowy mountain ridge, facing the distant mountain peak where her fiancé Fujii Tatsuya died in a mountain accident a year ago, she loudly and repeatedly asks: "Are you... okay? I'm... fine! Are you... okay? I'm... fine!" This fragment is so sad, this voice has been echoing in my heart for a long time, and has already been deeply imprinted on my heart.
If Watanabe-san hadn't delved into her late boyfriend's past due to her deep nostalgia for him, she would never have known about this hazy yet beautiful emotion he had experienced. And his classmate with the same name and surname would also never have known that Fujiwara Tatsuya had loved him so deeply.
What a beautiful yet sad emotion this is. What a refreshing and touching movie, those delicate and touching images are deeply imprinted in my heart, forever unchanged.
I shed tears. Xia Wenyu looked at me, under the dim light of the cinema, he still saw the tears in my eyes, the cinema was very quiet, he could only whisper to my ear: "Qing Yi, you're crying again! I told you not to watch such a sad movie."
He pulled out a handkerchief and handed it to me, I recognized that it was the one I saw on the day we first met. He continued in a very soft tone: "This handkerchief is for you to wipe away your tears! As a boy, I didn't need to carry a handkerchief anyway." This sentence made me burst into laughter. In the dim light, I saw a smile on his face too, and his previously anxious expression was replaced by a hint of joy.
I'm still immersed in the plot of the movie. The snowy town, the library card with the name of his beloved girl written on it, and the sketch he drew of her. Why was it discovered by those schoolgirls after so many years? If not, how could a girl named Fujiwara Tatsuki have found it? How did she know that he had deeply loved her? How could this not bring tears to her eyes? As she searched through memories for everything about the past, she finally saw that beautiful love that was like intoxicating wine, but that love was like a white, mournful flower that she had never understood, and of which she had been completely unaware.
It was originally a purely white love affair. That piece was just a vague feeling in the heart, and the love that had never really started was so bleakly beautiful. It turned out that many things were not forgotten by us, but they were deeply hidden in our hearts, and one day when we thought of them, they would surely sprout and grow there. And what made you know that you used to remember was just that you couldn't think of it anymore, but you still remembered.
"It seems like you're still immersed in the emotions from watching the movie, you really enjoy it. I have a collection of Kore-eda Hirokazu's works at my place, come over and I'll lend them to you! It feels better than watching online." Xia Wenyu's words broke my reverie.
"Good!" I replied. My heart began to feel delighted, and I couldn't help but feel a thrill of joy for the things I loved.
After coming out of the cinema, walking on the bustling street, I felt much more relaxed and my mood was also much better.
