Chapter 40: Stirring for Love
In the past month, everyone still hasn't found Jiang Xue'er, but they continue to believe that Jiang Xue'er isn't dead yet and haven't set up a memorial tablet for her.
A week after Jiang Xue'er's disappearance, Rang Lingfeng was escorted back home. He refused to live with his family and instead lived alone in Tanbin Garden because Rang Lingfeng's illness had not fully recovered. Mrs. Rang was afraid that Rang Lingfeng would do something to harm himself, so she let Sen and Rang Lingfeng live together.
This morning, Ruan Lingfeng woke up and felt that his mind was much clearer. He got out of bed and wanted to go for a walk around the place. Since Jiang Xue'er went missing, Ruan Lingfeng hadn't washed or shaved, with a full beard on his face, and he had lost a lot of weight. As soon as Ruan Lingfeng stepped out of his room, he saw the room where Jiang Xue'er used to live. He remembered how she scolded him on her first day in that room, calling him "big pervert, dead pervert, big lecher, hooligan..." and beating him up at the same time.
Ran Lingfeng opened Jiang Xue'er's room, and thought of that day when Jiang Xue'er drew weird pictures on his clothes. He went to find Jiang Xue'er to argue with her, but she said "Look at the foreigner standing on the clothes, with a pair of blue eyes, it's too damaging to the image of foreigners. I helped him draw it into a national treasure and turned it into a first-class animal, he should be honored." At that time, Ran Lingfeng took away Jiang Xue'er's first kiss in order to get her to compensate him for a piece of clothing.
Ran Lingfeng walked out of Jiang Xue'er's room, down the stairs, and came to the dining table. He thought of the first meal Jiang Xue'er had made for him, and how she had boldly said that the noodles were "not for humans, but for beasts and wolves." When he arrived at the kitchen, Ran Lingfeng saw Jiang Xue'er's busy back. These fond memories made Ran Lingfeng feel as though Jiang Xue'er had never left him. He still believed that Jiang Xue'er would return to him someday.
On the upper floor, Chen Sen, who had been watching Ran Lingfeng for a long time, walked down from upstairs. Ran Lingfeng still thought it would be Jiang Xuer, and suddenly turned his head to see that it was actually Chen Sen, calling out: "Sen."
"Ran Lingfeng, how come you're up so early?" Chen Sen saw that Ran Lingfeng had some color in his face, which meant that Ran's condition was taking a turn for the better.
Ran Lingfeng said: "Today's weather looks good, I've slept for so many days, if I continue like this, how can I be okay?"
Chen Sen looked at Ruan Lingfeng with a puzzled expression and asked: "Lingfeng, what's going on?"
Ran Lingfeng said: "People can't always be sick, if they encounter things and don't make a move at all, they are useless. With so many days given to them, it's time for them to take action."
"Counterattack?" Chen Sen heard this and was even more confused. Wasn't Ran Lingfeng's self-destruction over the past few days real? Was he waiting for an opportunity?
Ran Lingfeng said: "That's right, actually I've been fine for a long time, but I just didn't want to say it out loud. Now only you know about this matter, please don't mention it for now."
Chen Sen said with a smile: "So you've been fine all along. I'm really happy for you. Did something happen to Xue Er, or is there another reason?"
Ran Lingfeng said: "Yes, that night, I ran to the place where Xue Er fell into the sea and saw that someone had been there before. And on the day of my accident, why did the company have an accident too? Don't you think it's very strange?"
Chen Sen found it strange when Ruan Lingfeng said that, but what's even stranger is that on the day of Ruan Lingfeng's engagement, Qiao Anna didn't attend, and Chen Sen hadn't seen her for a while. Chen Sen recalled secretly meeting with several people at Qiao Anna's doorstep, wondering if this matter was related to Qiao Anna. The more he thought about it, the more worried he became about Qiao Anna, silently praying that she had nothing to do with it.
"So did you find out anything?" Chen Sen asked.
"How much do I know? There's something I want to ask for your help." Ruan Lingfeng thought that if he didn't let the fact that he was faking his illness leak out, he could only ask Chen Sen for help.
"What's wrong?"
Ran Lingfeng said: "I'd like to invite you to our company in the UK for a trip, to help me check on the surveillance and also my dad's office."
Chen Sen was even more puzzled. Since the incident that day, Ruan Lingfeng had been in Tanbin Garden and hadn't gone out once. There weren't even any communication devices by his side. It was inexplicable why Ruan Lingfeng would suddenly ask him to go to England to investigate these things. Could it be... that Ruan Lingfeng had some kind of supernatural ability, knowing everything without leaving the house? "Do you suspect there's a mole within the company?"
"It's still uncertain now, so would you mind going to the UK in these two days?"
"Uncle Rang has been safely released from detention and is back at the company, so why didn't you tell Uncle Rang, but instead asked me to go over?" Chen Sen asked.
"Too many people are watching me and my dad, so it's not convenient. You're just a nominal director of the company, nobody will notice you, so I'll let you go, maybe you can find out something."
Chen Sen joked: "Then what benefits can you give me? What can move me, I'll go."
Ran Lingfeng knew that Chen Sen wouldn't be so mercenary, and he was just playing around. Smiling, he said: "Then we'll have to see the results of your actions."
"I'm Chen Sen handling this, don't you trust me? I'm a renowned detective and divine doctor, without me, you're helpless."
Chen Sen patted Ran Lingfeng's shoulder and then walked towards the door.
The room was left with only Rang Lingfeng, and in his heart, he said 'Xue Er, where are you? I miss you so much, do you know that? For your sake, I've picked myself up again. I want to find the person who hurt you. During this time, I will work hard and wait for your return, let you live a good life, and never let you suffer again.'
