Chapter Seven: Life is but a first encounter seven times
But what happened next shattered my assumption.
During the English exam, I accidentally got some of the class representative's spotlight. The multiple-choice questions were written more smoothly than usual when copying standard answers. For the final essay, I casually wrote a few sentences and didn't know if they were on topic or not. After finishing the exam, when the class representative went to collect answer sheets and check essays, ignoring his and Xiaoyu's ghost-like stares, I took the initiative to help him collect other groups'.
Ignoring the surprised or suspicious glances from my classmates, I walked all the way to He Mochen's desk in the second group. Originally, I had planned to say something when I took his test paper, just to try out the "effect", but his test paper was placed on top of a pile of books, and he was bent over writing math exercises.
Looks like you don't want to be disturbed.
I took his test paper, hesitated for a moment, feeling that this trip couldn't be in vain, and finally bent my fingers to lightly tap on his desk: "Just finished the English exam and started writing math, so diligent?"
He paused for a moment, nodded slightly, but still didn't raise his head.
You actually believed that? I didn't give up and said: "Although my math is problematic, the Sakura sitting over there is an all-rounder in both liberal arts and science. If you don't understand something, you can ask her."
Seeing him still not reacting, I found it a bit boring: "Actually, your foundation is so good, and now it's not the crucial moment, you don't have to work so hard. Are you planning to make a dark horse leap in the mid-term exam and directly take the first place?"
He slowly raised his head, but his expression was unpleasant, and his low voice was devoid of emotion: "Are you done? You disturbed me."
I was taken aback, grinding my teeth and just about to retort when the class representative suddenly walked by me. I suddenly realized that all my classmates were in the classroom now, so I immediately changed my tone: "Okay, take your time writing, I won't disturb you."
After finishing speaking, I directly stuffed the answer sheet in my hand into the stunned class representative's arms and returned to my own seat.
Xiao Yu looked at me with a mischievous glint in her eye: "Skipped lunch again, huh?"
I shook my head and said briefly: "Someone."
She woke up with a start, rubbed her eyes and gave me a white eye: "Even if you want to avoid suspicion, it's not necessary to avoid it to this extent. Last night's incident has spread, although everyone says he was scared by you, but I think it's the other way around, you were scared by him."
I thought for a moment: "I don't know, but the more I see him like this, the more I want to figure out his attitude."
Xiao Yu whistled strangely: "Fell in love?"
I shook my head firmly: "Impossible." I paused for a moment, and then said thoughtfully, "It's just that being treated like this by a handsome guy is too hurtful to my self-esteem. I just want to regain the most basic dignity."
After class, I went to the bathroom with my BFFs. On our way back, we unexpectedly saw He Mochen and Hei Tan coming this way. I looked around and found that there were only a few of us in the middle of the long corridor at that time.
Xiaoyu nudged me with her elbow: "Now it should be considered that there's no one left, right?"
"You're not even human." I retorted back at her.
"I bet he's blind." Ah Qian said after hearing about the incident in the cafeteria that morning, her impression of He Mò Tiān quickly dropping to a negative value. "But Dead Black Carbon actually dared to go to the bathroom with He Mò Tiān together, this bastard won't have fallen too, will he?"
At that time, Ah Qian's so-called fall was actually the popular "soap opera" nowadays, but I think she thought too much.
Hei Tan, as the first captain of the school basketball team to serve from freshman to junior year, has a robust physique, with angular facial features that are as three-dimensional as Greek sculptures. When he smiles, two rows of neat white teeth appear, making his dark chocolate-like skin tone seem like it's floating in the night.
Although he often acts silly in front of Ah Qian, since I saw him fight with a street punk outside the school, he has become an African little attacker in my eyes. And picking up soap is something that only M bottoms like class representatives are suitable for.
But I didn't say much, just exchanged a glance with Ah Qian, because He Mochen was about to approach us.
Hei Tan shouted out a super loud "Ah Qian, what a coincidence!" when he was still a few steps away from us. Ah Qian let out a cold hum and ignored him.
I shifted my gaze to He Mochen, and under the contrast of the black coal, his figure looked a bit thin, but still upright. Perhaps it was just after talking to Black Coal, there was still a hint of a smile on his face, but this hint of a smile quickly disappeared, and he walked forward without hesitation.
Cast not a sideways glance.
I finally couldn't help but scold him loudly and then fiercely stared at the black coal, only then did I walk back to the classroom with my best friend.
Finally finished the morning classes, I rushed back to my dorm and slammed my pillow while screaming. I vowed that this mid-term exam would be a comeback, not saying I'd make it to the top three in class, but at least I wouldn't let He Mottian get ahead of me.
As a result, my so-called good friends not only failed to comfort me properly, but also focused on what I would do if I didn't turn over a new leaf. They even suggested that if I wanted to achieve a balance between work and rest, it would be best for me to take care of all the cleaning in the dormitory myself. I was so angry with them that I couldn't even eat my lunch properly.
The mid-term exam is only a month away, and from then on I kept reminding myself of the oath I made. All my phones were locked up, I listened attentively in class from start to finish, and after class I didn't wander around. The exercise books that used to be just for show were all taken out by me to do battle with the sea of questions. Every day I forgot to sleep and eat, studying till late at night, almost to the point of hanging myself from the beam or stabbing myself in the bone. When I got home, my mom and aunt even made a few comments about how much sharper my chin had become, and I almost wanted to call my uncle to ask him how he was torturing me at school.
Because my uncle and aunt were both high school math teachers, I had a half-hour tutoring session with them every night from the first year of high school until the end of the second year. As a result, math became one of my strongest subjects, while English suddenly became my Achilles' heel. Although Haiying was always ranked first in her class, her English was not good enough to be a class representative. In order to quickly improve my English scores, I started asking the class representative questions shamelessly and almost to the point of being annoying.
