Section 9: Starving Ghosts

Chapter 1 Section 9 Starving Ghost

When the sunlight shone on their heads, Lu Youyou pulled An Zhi's arm and they walked to a corner of the square. They looked around and saw that no one had arrived yet. The two sat down on a long bench, waiting for those who were supposed to come.

"What do you think of that?" Lu Youyou pointed at a small stall on the square and said.

"Niece, don't be mouthy with me. Do you want another one?" An Zhi smiled wryly.

"Or are you familiar with me, why don't you go quickly." Lu Youyou said, and again gathered her hands in mid-air.

Anqi immediately stood up and rushed over.

An Zhi held the freshly bought roasted sweet potato in his hand and looked at Lu Youyou sitting on the stool. The white long shirt draped over her body, shining brightly in the sunlight, making it somewhat dazzling to look at. Her delicate little face was hidden in the collar of her clothes, constantly looking around as if searching for something.

"What's wrong?" An Zhi shouted, causing Lu Youyou to jump down.

"Come on, hurry up. I'm starving." Lu Youyou's eyes were fixed on An Zhi's roasted sweet potato, her mouth watering at the sight of it.

In An Zhi's eyes, Lu Youyou had two hobbies in this life. One was to amuse himself, and the other was to constantly eat all the food he wanted. However, what An Zhi couldn't understand was why Lu Youyou could eat so much without getting fat. This made An Zhi extremely envious because no matter how much he ate, he wouldn't gain weight. Every time, An Zhi would look at the bowls and chopsticks in front of him with a mixture of emotions.

"I knew you'd just eat like a pig. Were you a pig in your past life?" An Zhi looked at Lu Youyou eating the roasted sweet potato and couldn't help but want to laugh, but didn't dare make a sound.

"What are you looking at? Haven't seen me eat before?" Lu Youyou said with a smile, but still didn't forget to finish the roasted sweet potato in her hand, not leaving a single bite.

"Yes. But seeing you makes me hungry. I don't know if those people are coming or not." Ahn Ji also said, looking around the surroundings.

"It's better if you didn't come, but since you've brought me out today, you'll have to reimburse me for all my expenses today." Lu Youyou hugged the hot roasted sweet potato and smiled at An Zhi.

"Kill me then." An Zhi lay back after hearing that, as if waiting for Lu Youyou to raise the knife in her hand and slash it towards his neck, ending his own wretched fate.

"Kill you? Dream on. I'd rather die than let today end like this." Lu Youyou put the last piece of roasted sweet potato into her mouth and stood up.

An Zhi looked at Lu Youyou and his heart was already trembling. He didn't know if the little money in his pocket would be enough for Lu Youyou's 'extravagance'. It was really a headache.

"Get up for me. Hurry up. It's still early now. We have to play well. You're almost suffocating me." Lu Youyou kept walking back and forth in front of An Zhi, who was still leaning on the chair waiting for Lu Youyou to 'understand' his life. Watching Lu Youyou swaying back and forth in front of him, he thought about how she had been following him all day without leaving his side even for a moment. An Zhi's head was getting bigger by several circles. He really wanted to walk into the roadside ditch. Lying in the hospital for a day would be better than accompanying this guy.

"Get up." Lu Youyou kicked An Zhi's foot, startling him.

"What's wrong?" An Zhi suddenly jumped up.

"Nothing. It's time to eat." Lu Youyou said coldly, as if she hadn't seen the changing expressions on An Zhi's face.

"Hey, didn't you just eat something?" Ahn Ji said with a smile.

"What's the use of that. Get up quickly." Lu Youyou, however, was oblivious to An Zhi's expression. An Zhi's expression didn't move Lu Youyou's sympathetic heart at all.

"You can't wait for me a little while? Let me rest for a bit." An Zhicai refused to get up from the ground.

"What are you resting for? Get up quickly. The lady is hungry." With that, a storm of punches and kicks rained down on An Zhi, leaving him begging for mercy.

An Zhi cursed the guy in his heart as he walked, thinking that he would choke to death during dinner. See if you still dare to shout at me then.

But An Zhi can only think about these things in his heart, and when there's no one around, he says them to himself to get it out of his system. If he were to really face Lu Youyou, he wouldn't dare say a single word.

"How come we're back here again?" Lu Youyou said with some anger.

"What's wrong with this place? Having something to eat is good enough." An Zhi shrugged and said.

"Let's just eat here. You're going to die from eating." Lu Youyou said bluntly and walked inside. One sentence scared An Zhi so much that he wanted to pull her out of there. Go to the roadside stall to have some snacks. But An Zhi had already done such a thing before. In the end, An Zhi went to the bank before leaving. Otherwise, it would be really impossible to leave. Looking at the increasing number of bowls in front of him, An Zhi felt that he would never bring her to such a place again. Originally thought it was cheap, but encountering Lu Youyou's kind of person, no matter where they went, they wouldn't save money.

Anqi followed behind Lu Youyou and walked into the small shop. Looking at this 'devil' who would be entwined with her for a lifetime, Anqi thought to herself that if she had just slipped and fallen, she wouldn't have ended up here, and instead would be on her way to the hospital.

"What are you thinking?" Lu Youyou turned around and suddenly shouted, startling An Zhi.

"Nothing. Hurry up." An Zhi sat down impatiently in the seat beside him.

The sun is no longer so dazzling, the faint red sunset shines on the trees outside the window. The snow in winter looks more charming under such a sunset.

An Zhi looked at the stack of plates in front of him and his heart was really afraid. This situation An Zhi was too familiar with. An Zhi secretly touched the wallet in his pocket, wondering if he could get away this time.

We must wait until this guy finishes eating before taking her out. Otherwise, after a few times, I'll really go bankrupt. My own little treasury will also be empty.

I really don't know how her mother managed to feed her. Looking at Lu Youyou who is still wolfing down food, I really feel sorry for Lu Youyou's mother. I think such a mother is too 'awesome'.

"How much longer are you going to eat?" An had already gotten used to not asking how much more she was going to eat, but rather how much time it would take. Because using "how much" to measure was really unclear.

"Probably in about half an hour." Lu Youyou said, putting a small piece of braised pork into her mouth, with a look of happiness all over her face.

An Zhi's head suddenly drooped down, as if he had been scared into a daze by Lu Youyou.

"You're really petty. Not even letting your girlfriend eat her fill. Wait till you actually have a girlfriend, be careful." Lu Youyou said with a threatening expression on his face, as if he had grasped An Zhi's weakness and could manipulate him at will.

"Don't be so smug. If someone marries you in the future, that's when they'll really be cursed for eight lifetimes." An Zhi retorted without backing down.

"You'd better be careful." Lu Youyou stopped paying attention to him and continued eating with her head down.

An Zhi watched Lu Youyou eating, and in his heart he cursed this guy repeatedly. If that day he had also let her treat him to a meal, he would have definitely made her pay dearly for it. He would have made up for all the losses of the past.

When the bowl in front of him blocked An Zhi's line of sight leaning on the chair, Lu Youyou finally stopped his movements and straightened up, looking at An Zhi who seemed to have fallen asleep leaning on the chair.

"Hey, it's time to pay." Lu Youyou kicked An Zhi under the table.

"Ah." An Zhī suddenly cried out loud, drawing everyone's attention to the two of them.

"Hurry up and go. It's almost dark." Lu Youyou said softly with her head down, a red flush on her face.

Lu Youyou walked hand in hand with An Zhi on the road.

"Are we going back together now?" Lu Youyou emphasized the word "walk" particularly heavily, as if blaming An Zhi.

"Kill me then." An Zhi had already put on his clothes and was slowly walking towards the boiling water.

"Then you stay here yourself. I'll take a taxi back by myself." As she spoke, Lu Youyou raised her hand to hail a cab, and got in.

An Zhi watched as the car drove away for a long time before reacting. He chased after it from behind, but only took a few steps before stopping. Because An Zhi had come to his senses. It was better if Lu Youyou went home alone. No need to follow him around. Now that he was alone, it wasn't so bad either. Might as well relax and unwind properly.

The streetlights have unknowingly lit up. An Zhi slowly walks along the side of the road, looking at the sky that is gradually turning dark. The winter stars are also appearing one by one in the sky. An Zhi thinks about whether he should go home or where to go, or just wander around for a night like this.

The traffic lights at the intersection kept flashing, constantly changing colors. The empty street seemed even cleaner, with only An Zhi walking alone on the road.

I don't know when the blue starry sky turned into tiny raindrops. They kept falling on Anzhi's shoulders, constantly nourishing Anzhi's heart. It had been a long time. Looking at those extinguished lights, Anzhi knew it was already late.

The supermarket at the intersection still leaked out white light. An Zhi looked around and walked towards the supermarket like a thief.

An Zhi was at a loss in the store. He didn't know what to buy. Looking at the fully stocked shelves, An Zhi casually picked up a pack of cigarettes.

"Still in school? You're learning from people who smoke." A sweet voice came over during checkout.

An Zhi lifted his head, looking at the little girl with a somewhat drowsy gaze. She was about the same age as him. He was still enjoying his comfortable school life, while this little girl had already started working on her own. What a waste he was.

"What's wrong? Not selling?" An Zhi said with some discontent.

"Not really, but you're still out so late, there must be something wrong with your brain." the girl said.

"There's something wrong with your brain." An Zhi straightened up, looking much taller. His gaze at the girl also became somewhat sharper.

"Ah, young people these days." The girl sighed and said, as if she had experienced a hundred things in life.

"You look like you've lived for hundreds of years." An Zhi laughed at the girl's words. The light behind the girl made her look even more radiant.

"You're the fairy." The girl tossed the cigarette into Ahn Ji's arms.

An Zhi looked at the girl's puffed-up face and smiled happily on his own face.
