Chapter Fifty
"The house I will not give you to live in, go away." Just as Cheng Zihang was puzzled, the old man's voice came out again.
Cheng Zihan's eyes widened in shock as she stared straight at the old man.
Li Bojian also had a helpless look on his face, since he had already spoken and said no, that meant there was no chance.
"Zi Han, let's go." Li Bojian said helplessly to Cheng Zi Han, then led her away.
The old man, however, stood up abruptly after hearing Cheng Zihan's name, pointing at him with his hand and asking incredulously, "You, you're called Zihan? Cheng Zihan?"
The old man's tone was very excited, and his gaze at Cheng Zihang had a hint of nostalgia.
Cheng Zihan looked back at the old man with a puzzled expression, unable to understand why he was so excited about his own name.
"Get out, get out quickly! Zihan, you stay here." The old man rushed over again, pried open Li Bojian's hand that was holding Cheng Zihan's hand, and then angrily drove Li Bojian away. He came back to hold onto Cheng Zihan, looking her up and down.
"It's really too similar, you look exactly like your father." The old man looked at Cheng Zihan, stretched out his hand to rub her face, and said in a low voice.
Although his voice was very light and his throat was quite hoarse, Cheng Zihan still heard this sentence clearly.
She looks exactly like Cheng Hai?
Cheng Zihan looked at the old man with suspicion, wondering if he had mistaken her for someone else due to his old age. Although she and Cheng Hai were both dark-skinned, their facial features were vastly different - where was the resemblance he spoke of?
Seeing Cheng Zihan's suspicious gaze, the old man's face sank and he said coldly, "What? Are you doubting my words?"
Cheng Zihan was taken aback, and hastily accompanied with a smile, "Where, where, how dare I doubt what you said, Eighth Uncle? You are a respected elder, vigorous in old age, no matter what you say is definitely right. Many people say that I look exactly like my dad."
Cheng Zihan couldn't help but snicker to herself, then silently added in her heart, Now I need something from you, even if you say I look like the big yellow dog at the village entrance, all I can do is agree.
After hearing Cheng Zihan's words, Lao Lai finally revealed a smile.
A face that was originally all wrinkled now looks like a chrysanthemum.
"Ah, the old house in Cun Wei, if you want to live there, just go ahead and live there. Here's the key." The old man suddenly sighed, took out a key from his pocket, and handed it over to Cheng Zihan.
Cheng Zihan took a look at this key, which was very old. The black lacquer didn't seem to be made of any recognizable material. It had a semicircular loop at the bottom and a thin black iron wire on top with several horizontal rods protruding from it.
This old-fashioned lock, to be honest, Cheng Zihang really didn't know how to open it.
But she didn't say anything and just put away the key.
"Thank you, Uncle Ba." After receiving the key, Cheng Zihan respectfully thanked the old man.
No matter how eccentric the old man's temper was, at least he didn't have anything against her.
The old man looked at Cheng Zihang deeply, a hint of hesitation in his eyes. After a long while, he whispered, "That... can you occasionally come here to see me?"
The old man's words carried a hint of entreaty.
Cheng Zihan suddenly felt a pang of sadness.
In her memory, the old man never had any relatives visit him, even on his deathbed, not a single family member came.
He became so eccentric in character, probably because of this reason?
"Alright, I'll come visit you when I'm free." Cheng Zihan nodded her head. The old man's simple request was something she wouldn't refuse.
Moreover, Cheng Zihan always felt that this old man was very kind and had a familiar feeling. Plus, the old man seemed to have something unusual about him, so Cheng Zihan wanted to get to know him better.
"En." The old man let out a deep "en", his tone was somewhat choked.
Cheng Zihan also felt sad when she saw it.
She never had a grandfather since she was young, let alone Cheng Shihao. The man never treated her as his granddaughter before. Now seeing the old man, she suddenly wanted to go hug him.
And she did just that.
Cheng Zihan himself found it hard to believe, and the old man was even more shocked, his mouth wide open.
"Haha, hahaha......" Finally, what was originally a quiet little house was filled with the satisfied laughter of the old man.
"The little girl is quite good too, come and I'll teach you some things." The old man suddenly liked Cheng Zihang very much, not because of other factors, but because of herself.
Cheng Zihan heard this and blinked curiously, seemingly very interested in what the old man had said.
The old man was still smiling and seemed to be in a good mood. However, when he saw Cheng Zihang like this, he started to show concern.
"You're still young now, I'll start teaching you again when you turn ten."
Cheng Zihan's eyes dimmed quietly upon hearing this.
Ten years old? If I'm not mistaken, it was the year Grandpa passed away.
"Alright then, I'll wait. I'm going back first."
Cheng Zihan made an effort to laugh and then bid farewell to the old man. When she reached the door, she turned back to take another look.
The old man was also surnamed Cheng. This was later told to Cheng Zihuan by Li Bojian. As for his real name, it's likely that no one in the village remembers it anymore.
After leaving the old man's house, Cheng Zihan went straight to the ancestral hall.
The house is quite large, with two floors and more than a dozen rooms, covering an area of nearly 600 square meters.
As soon as you enter, it is a spacious and empty hall, without even a chair inside. There are nine rooms on the first floor, with the last room connected to the stairwell. The stairs are old-fashioned wooden stairs, creaking loudly when walked upon, making one worry that they might suddenly break off.
The house was built with green bricks, although it has been many years, but it is still very solid, only some wooden structures have become very old.
Cheng Zihan walked around the house and was quite satisfied with it. The place is big enough, and outside there is a courtyard of about 10 square meters, next to which is the kitchen. Coming out of the courtyard, there is another room, and beyond that, a corridor leads to a garden that is neither too big nor too small, but at this moment is overgrown with weeds.
The location here is very large, no matter what you do, it's enough.
Cheng Zihan had just looked at the house and was about to leave, but suddenly stopped in her tracks. She seemed to have a faint feeling that there was something inside the house.
She turned her head back in doubt, it would have been better if she hadn't looked, but when she did, she was so startled that her soul almost escaped.
