Chapter 20: The Taste of Death

Chapter 20: The Smell of Dead People

My peripheral vision saw Qing Ning helplessly shaking her head, and then said to Xian Xian: "How is it?"

"How do I know you won't just take things and run away?" Xianxian asked.

"Are you still worried that I'll escape from your encirclement? Is it that you don't trust your own abilities, or is it that you don't trust the abilities of those under you?" Qing Ning said calmly, but I felt an intense aura emanating from him. Indeed, people with real ability always exude an air of confidence no matter what they say!

Xian Xian glanced at me, then stared at Qing Ning for a moment before suddenly smiling and saying, "Of course I believe in my own abilities." After finishing speaking, he signaled to Qing Ning to go open the coffin. Only then did Qing Ning walk over to the large stone coffin, first circling around it once, then starting to feel all around it. Before long, he smiled slightly, seemingly about to trigger some mechanism. Just at that moment, a scratching sound came from inside the coffin, although the sound was small, it was very heart-piercing.

Was there also that blood-red hair in this coffin? I looked at Qing Ning with suspicion, and saw him slightly frowning too.

"Big brother, it's probably already risen from the dead inside!" one of them said to Xian Xian.

Because of the sudden sound, everyone here was at a loss for words. We who have witnessed the power of that fiery red hair naturally didn't want to stir up trouble. But Xian Xian looked at the large stone coffin and firmly said: "Open it."

As soon as the voice fell, Qing Ning found the mechanism, and the lid of the stone coffin was slowly lifted. I took a look inside, and it turned out that there was another lid inside. It seems that there is still a coffin inside the big stone coffin. The inner coffin should be made of good nanmu wood, and so far, no signs of rot or damage can be seen.

The fake one might want to take a look but is afraid, so it took me as a shield and walked forward a few steps. I didn't resist because I also wanted to see if there was really that blood-red hair inside. If there was, then there would be fire here too, and at worst, I'd just get bitten a few more times. If not, then it's good to take a look after all, since I'm still a bit curious.

After Qing Ning opened the coffin, I saw what was inside at a glance. I let out an incredulous cry of surprise. There was actually someone lying inside, no, it should be a dead person, but it seemed to be alive because his eyes were open. Just as I looked over, his eyeballs also turned around and stared at me. At that moment, I was suddenly confused...

The person lying there doesn't even count as a living being, to be precise, it's between life and death. From head to toe, the whole body is dull and grey, without any hint of vitality. The hair, eyes, skin, everything is a dull, lifeless grey.

  Undead!

An idea flashed through his mind, and as he looked down again, he saw that what was spread under him was not a quilt or wood, but hair, many black hairs with a reddish tint!

He remained motionless, except for his moving eyeballs looking at us, I almost thought he was a dead man, because from the moment the coffin opened, the air was filled with that smell of death, which is the stench of corpses.

I looked at him, really couldn't understand why a person would become like this, it's just too mysterious and strange. The next moment, my thoughts were interrupted by someone, only to hear Xianxian exclaiming excitedly: "Quick, get it out! This time we finally caught one that's still alive!"

What's the big deal about finally catching a live one? Have they seen many before? I looked at Xianxian in confusion as he reached into the coffin, but the next moment, I heard their blood-curdling screams. I took several steps back in terror, and the fake me who was holding onto me also rushed up to help, looking shocked and waving a torch. Suddenly, a large number of black hairs flew out of the coffin, stabbing several people like sharp swords, and the smell of blood filled the air.

In the midst of chaos, when everyone was entangled by those black-haired creatures, I suddenly caught a glimpse of that ashen-faced living corpse crawling out of the coffin in an eerie posture. He seemed to still retain a thread of consciousness and slightly opened his mouth to "say" something to Qing Ning. I couldn't understand lip language, so I didn't know what he said to Qing Ning, but judging from Qing Ning's expression of sudden astonishment, it shouldn't be anything simple. Otherwise, with his calm and collected personality, he would have been completely unfazed.

Although I'm very curious, I've lost the ability to think now. These hairs are like they're not afraid of fire at all. Even when burned, they still stubbornly stick up. The air is filled with either a stench of death or the smell of burnt hair. The two smells mixed together make me feel that it's worthy of being called "the world's number one stink"!

"Hurry up and light it, make it bigger!" Someone shouted a sentence. At this time, the fire in the tomb was suddenly extinguished, and it was the kind that was extinguished all at once. In the chaos, I turned on my flashlight and saw an incredible scene - those flames were actually extinguished by the black hair!

All the flashlights were turned on, and the lamp slot was ignited again. However, when I looked back, that living dead man had disappeared!

Perhaps the sound we made was too loud, and those vines came to life again. All I saw were dense green-black vines waving in front of me, and before long, I was once again honorably hung up. The feeling is hard to describe.

"Damn it, he's run away again!" Hearing a familiar voice, I turned my head to take a look, and unexpectedly, Xian was also hung up like a sausage. Seeing me looking at him, he actually glared at me and shouted: "What are you staring at?"

I replied with a straight face: "I'm looking at you." After that, I provocatively glanced at him. What's the big deal? You're also stuck here!

"Hey!" Xianxian's face turned slightly red, and I regretted it as soon as I said it, because Xianxian was clearly not an ordinary person. He flipped himself up with force, reached the vines on his feet, and then "stood" up, looking down at me with a gaze full of mockery and complacency.

I no longer looked at him, but instead searched around for Qing Ning's figure. On the other side, Qing Ning's waist was also entwined by the green and black vines, but he wasn't hanging upside down, rather he was facing upwards. I only saw that one of his hands was grasping the vine, while the other hand held a knife, chopping at the vines wrapped around his body. Perhaps the vine felt pain, as it suddenly started shaking violently, but Qing Ning's grip was tight, and he didn't fall off, instead taking step by step upwards.

I didn't want to climb at first, but when I saw Xianxian climbing up too, something came over me and I exerted some force and flipped myself up. At the same time, I grabbed onto that vine and steadied my body. Before I could even react, I heard someone let out a cold snort. I looked over to see Xianxian hooking her mouth into a mischievous grin, saying with a sly smile: "I didn't think you'd look like a woman, but your movements are quite agile."
