The suspense you've created is so captivating!
This is a long review from:
I'm sure many of you have had this experience: wanting to read about ghosts and monsters, but finding it too unrealistic and far-fetched; wanting to read about social issues and human nature, but finding palace and workplace dramas too formulaic and clichéd; wanting to read mysteries, but finding the authors' IQs not high enough, with plots full of holes; wanting to read about real human emotions, but finding romance novels too sappy and melodramatic. In short, it's hard to find a book that perfectly hits the reader's sweet spot.
It's time to see Wenhao's bubble!
It must be said that Foam's works are a very unusual kind of horror. Readers familiar with Foam's writing style know that although she writes about ghosts and monsters, she never focuses on depicting their supernatural powers, but instead presents a virtual society that allows people to better examine the ugliness of human nature under the participation of ghosts and monsters. However, while exposing human nature, she never simply creates stereotypical characters, and the protagonist never has a lucky halo. What's even more unusual is Foam's extremely fast-paced rhythm, which never tries to stir up emotions or frantically sets up plot twists, but instead often takes sharp turns, with ups and downs that readers can hardly predict; yet the emotional scenes are not weakened in any way, as if Foam has a natural talent for using very ordinary language to touch every nerve of the reader, evoking the most intense and full range of emotions. With few words, she expresses the most genuine and sincere feelings vividly. Moreover, the tightly packed plot makes one hold their breath from the moment they open the page, even with only 9,000 characters per day, the amount of information is still explosive.
The first work of Baoyue I read was "I Have a Date with a Corpse". The common type of horror theme "Cat Surprises the Corpse" was played out by her with 100% new ideas. The mysterious Ren family mansion, the cold and tough male lead who surprises the corpse, the clever and resourceful young master of the Ling family, the strong and high EQ female lead, the suspicious and evil Taoist butler, and the endless exorcism and corpse-snatching techniques, all forces collide violently, yet so unexpected, yet 100% reasonable. If you don't consider whether there are ghosts or monsters in this world, every story of Baoyue's could possibly happen in real life.
The following "Baby's Daddy" is even more vivid and colorful, boldly combining taboo topics such as drug trafficking, ghosts, and campus crime, and has a profound understanding and exposure of social reality and human ugliness. Mo Yan said that the most important thing for writers is to have the ability to assimilate life. Bubble perfectly grasps the psychological characteristics of both male and female in the first-person perspective, making me wonder if this guy is a man or a woman at one point.
The current "If the Other Half is a Corpse", when I first started reading, I thought this title seemed to fit perfectly with the story of "Corpse". Doesn't Foam fear falling into her own previous routine? However, after reading only these few chapters so far, I realized I was overthinking. Isn't it true that even I said, "corpse" and "ghosts" have never been Foam's style? The essence of her works has always been those stories about the lives of ordinary people that are both unbelievable and suspenseful, yet down-to-earth and in line with social reality. The intricate plots and struggles against authority, which make us see the ugliness of human nature while also admiring its nobility. What secrets is this village hiding after mysteriously disappearing overnight? Why did an entire squad of soldiers die inside, and why are the media and military completely unresponsive? Are they trying to cover something up? The corpses that suddenly emerged from underground on a cold night, lined up and left, what injustice did they suffer, and what truth did they take away? I hope you all will go and uncover it for yourselves, and you will definitely discover a new world full of wonders.
Foam is a highly efficient and relatively introverted author, not good at promoting herself, so even though she has already published the third volume of such an excellent work, she still hasn't received the recognition that belongs to her. Come on, come and share her world, don't disappoint the reader's heart that wants to get good works!!!!!!!
