Chapter 17 The First Snowfall

  Chapter Seventeen The First Snow

  Another sleepless night...

Xiao Yan brushed her teeth and washed her face, standing in front of the mirror, looking at herself in the mirror, as if reflecting 'her' shadow, hurriedly shaking her head, and then turning on the faucet, cold water splashing on her face, telling herself to wake up, it was just a dream.

Heavy snow is falling outside the window, the first snow of winter, so big and beautiful, filling the sky with flying snow, covering the ground, houses, and treetops, painting a serene and beautiful winter landscape.

Xiao Yan had just opened the door downstairs when a chill swept in, piercingly cold. She hastily rubbed her hands together, which were almost frozen stiff even with gloves on. Ye Chen suddenly popped up in front of Xiao Yan, startling her so much that she almost cried out, his face full of smiles:

"It's snowing, isn't it cold?" Ye Chen arrived early at Xiaoyan's house downstairs, afraid of missing the romantic moment of watching the first snow of early winter with Xiaoyan. Unfortunately, the flower shop wasn't open yet, otherwise adding a bouquet of roses would have made it perfect.

"Ah, okay, how did you get here? You've been waiting for a long time, right?" Xiaoyan was stunned for a moment before responding with a radiant smile.

"Come and watch the snow with me, I just arrived and you came down. Hurry up or we'll be late." Ye Chen said, taking Xiao Yan's hand and putting it on his arm, pulling her along as they walked.

Xiao Yan smiled but didn't speak, and the ice and snow in her heart seemed to have melted away by the warmth emanating from Ye Chen's body.

Snowflakes fluttered and fell, two people chatted and laughed, admiring the snowflakes dancing before their eyes on this quiet and desolate street.

Suddenly, Xiaoyan stopped and her smile froze. She looked down to see a thick layer of snow covering the ground, so white it was dazzling. At her feet, there were drops of bright red on the snow, blending with the pure white.

Ye Chen looked at the place where Xiao Yan was staring in confusion, but it was just a vast expanse of snow white, without any abnormalities.

Xiao Yan retreated in horror, looking forward, the blood droplets gathered more and more, forming a bright red pool of blood on the white snow, so obvious, so eerie and frightening.

A white figure stood at the source, turning its head to look at Xiaoyan, with tears flashing and long hair fluttering. The pale face had no blood color, no expression, as if frozen in place. Even if only one side of the face could be seen, it was clear that the face resembled Xiaoyan's, like a clone.

That white figure quietly gazed at Xiaoyan, their eyes locked, her face filled with sorrow and a hint of resentment, as if there was unspeakable anguish that couldn't be expressed. Without a word, she stared straight at Xiaoyan, her eyelids unmoving, her eye sockets brimming with tears. The bloodstain on the snowy ground seemed to have just flowed from her body, connecting her and Xiaoyan across the pristine white space.

Xiao Yan pinched the flesh on her arm again, and the waves of pain that came proved it wasn't a dream. She stared at all this, standing stupidly in place, her legs constantly going soft, as if she would fall to the ground the next moment.

"What's wrong?" Ye Chen looked at Xiao Yan's strange behavior and asked with concern.

Xiao Yan was stunned for a moment, looked up at Ye Chen's puzzled face, and then shifted her gaze to where the white figure had stood earlier. However, in that one second, when she turned her head back, the white figure and the bloodstains on the ground had vanished, leaving only a pristine snow-white landscape.

Xiao Yan hastily pulled a smile and shook her head, saying:

"Nothing, let's go." He said, turning away from the bloody spot and walking.

Ye Chen was still puzzled and turned his head to look in the direction that Xiao Yan had just stared at in horror, but it was still a snowy field, without any unusual signs.

Xiao Yan suppressed the fear in her heart, controlling her rapid breathing and clenching her fists, her fingernails digging into her flesh with a faint pain. She wanted to make herself more alert, to forget the scene she had just witnessed, but the image of those sorrowful and resentful eyes kept flashing before her, staring at her intensely as if wanting to tear her apart, yet filled with pity and love.

The bloodstain on the snowy ground, the woman who stood clearly in front of her eyes, how could she disappear in an instant? Xiaoyan didn't dare to think, looking at Ye Chen's puzzled expression, Xiaoyan knew that only she could see 'her'.
