Chapter Ten: Mystic Light Technique
My neck relaxed, as if the little devil had let go of my neck. I gasped for breath desperately, puffing and panting like a bellows, but my hands didn't stop moving. This was just my instinct, and in my heart, I kept telling myself not to stop - couldn't stop until the moment I died. As long as I wasn't dead, I couldn't give up. If I couldn't beat the little devil to death, then I would die trying. But now that I could breathe again, my senses began to return, and the pain started to set in. That fist was like pounding on a concrete floor, each blow making my bones ache with a dull throb. Only, at this point, I still couldn't quite grasp what was happening.
"Alright, that little devil has been beaten to death by you—" I don't know who said a sentence in my ear, and someone came to grab my arm, but I didn't think much, and suddenly punched out, then heard a miserable cry: "Ah, the stinky boy wants to beat me to death—"
It seemed to be Miao Chunyi's voice, I shook my head and barely regained my composure. The little ghost was nowhere to be seen, and all that was left under my hand was the ground. The entire room had no trace of the little ghost, and the temperature had also returned to normal, still as stiflingly hot as before. Miao Chunyi fell not far away, clutching his ribs and groaning nonstop, while the prison guard stood at the door with his mouth agape, staring foolishly at me like a complete idiot.
The little demon has been beaten to death, I was stunned, and my right hand actually stopped, is the little demon really dead? But I couldn't see the little demon anymore, let out a sigh of relief, and collapsed to the ground, all my strength suddenly drained away. Immediately after that, I retreated from that state, and in front of me was just darkness. I opened my eyes dazedly, and what I saw was only the concrete ceiling. Is everything really over?
Lying on the ground, I panted heavily, and everything I had just experienced seemed like a dream. But my left hand, which was throbbing with pain, told me that it was all real - had I really killed that little demon? The memory of that mystical realm from earlier sent a shiver through my heart, but how did I enter that state in the first place?
Miao Chunyi was no longer calling out, and he crawled up from the ground, but didn't immediately approach me. At this time, his eyes were nowhere to be seen, and he stared at me with a pair of small eyes, seemingly thinking about something. However, the constantly flashing lights revealed that he was also very excited in his heart. He swallowed his saliva, and finally, Miao Chunyi couldn't help but let out a sound: "Young one, how are you?"
He turned his head and looked at Miao Chun with a bitter smile: "I'm not dead yet, did I really kill that little devil just now?"
Miao Chun nodded slightly, but obviously didn't want to get entangled in this matter. He was more concerned about another thing: "Kid, I've never seen anyone as ruthless as you before. You haven't learned anything and yet you managed to kill that little ghost with ease. That little ghost would have taken me some effort to eliminate, and how did you open your heavenly eye? Has something like this happened before?"
The little demon is dead, I relaxed my body, just wanting to rest well for a while. Earlier, I stayed up till midnight and still haven't eaten anything, and just now I had another fight, really, I'm out of energy. Open the heavenly eye - what's that thing? I just smiled bitterly, everything that has happened recently is really too heart-wrenching.
Miao Chunyi was obviously very interested in me, sitting cross-legged beside me, staring at the colorful glint in my eyes: "Little guy, but I still want to warn you of one thing, this little ghost is cultivated, and most likely it's some evil art from Thailand. You've offended someone, and there are people who will stop at nothing to kill you. This time you escaped, but believe me, there will be a next time soon. Think carefully about what sin you committed against whom."
I looked up at Miao Chunyi, and for once, I believed what he said. However, thinking back to my over 20 years of life, it seemed unlikely that I had made someone so resentful that they would want me dead. The most I had ever done was get into a fight with someone, maybe even getting a bloody nose, but it was impossible for me to have offended someone so much that they would resort to using dark magic against me. Moreover, even if I had, it wouldn't be possible for an ordinary person to find someone who knew such evil spells, let alone afford the cost of hiring them. So, who could it be that's trying to harm me?
I shook my head, only a bitter smile on my face. I really couldn't understand it. My life used to be simple and I didn't think I had made anyone hate me that much. Miao Chun saw the look on my face and knew I was confused. He snorted: "Alright kid, I'll help you this once. Let's see who wants to harm you. But remember, no one does anything for free in this world."
"I'll pay you back when I get out, won't -" A bitter smile, although this bamboo pole is hitting loudly, but I really have to admit it.
Although I made a big decision and was willing to accept any amount of money, believing that Father would not ignore me, but unexpectedly Miao Chunyi just waved his hand with an eerie expression: "I don't want the money, as for what will happen next you'll know when the time comes. If my guess is correct, the upcoming disaster is not something you can handle."
As soon as the voice fell, Miao Chun started laughing, and I always felt that Miao Chun's smile was so sinister, as if he was calculating something about me. However, before I could think more, Miao Chun suddenly turned his head towards a stunned prison guard and shouted in a low voice: "Go get me a basin of water!"
The prison guard's son was shocked, waking up from his earlier astonishment, but only had a lingering fear on his face. He didn't mind Miao Chunyi's scolding and instead nodded unconsciously before hastily running to the duty room to fetch a basin of water. Miao Chunyi took it over and returned to my side, placing the basin beside me. It was just an ordinary basin of clear water with no impurities, and the basin itself was a plain plastic one. What did Miao Chunyi want to do?
"Wait until I use the Xuan Guang technique to see who is harming you, and you will also have a number in your heart." Miao Chun's face turned serious, completely different from his usual sly appearance. He slowly clasped his hands together, forming a handprint shape, but I didn't know what this was. However, Miao Chun then began to chant incessantly, and I guessed that this should be an incantation.
A moment later, Miao Chunyi suddenly opened his eyes, and a sharp light burst out from them. He stretched out his hand into the void and grasped something, and a misty object fell into his palm. This was visible to the naked eye. As he compressed the mist in his hand, his other hand pointed with two fingers like a sword at the water basin, and he shouted in a low voice: "Daojun Shenyan, Xuanguang Xianling, Taishang Laojun Jiji Rulü, Sha——"
I gazed into the water basin, and to my surprise, the water inside started boiling as if it had reached its boiling point. Miao Chun then tossed that wisp of mist into the water, muttering something under his breath, which I couldn't quite make out. As I watched, the mist dispersed in the water, and the surface began to calm down slowly. However, as the water calmed down, a scene emerged, just like watching a movie. The people inside were moving about; if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would have thought it was created by a projector. Inside, there was a young man in his twenties and a middle-aged man dressed in an ancient attire, seemingly in a luxurious mansion because the living room they were in was incredibly spacious and opulent. Unfortunately, I couldn't hear what the people inside were saying.
"It's these two people who want to harm you, do you know them?" Miao Chun let out a sigh and looked at the picture in the water basin, lost in thought.
I shook my head, I swore that I had never seen these two people before, even if I racked my brains, I couldn't recall when I got to know this rich young master. Looking at the clothes he wore and the house he lived in, this young man was absolutely a rich kid. What deep hatred could there be between him and me, a small poor guy?
Look at my bewildered face, Miao Chunyi also furrowed his brow, just about to speak, the scene in the water basin changed, and suddenly it was that strange middle-aged man staring over, as if piercing through the water surface, staring at me and Miao Chunyi with a fierce gaze. Those eyes burst into a brilliant light, followed by the water basin exploding with a loud "boom", the water inside splashing out in all directions, even the water basin itself was broken, drenching me and Miao Chunyi from head to toe.
"This guy is not simple, kiddo, you're in big trouble. That Thai person's skills are at least no lower than mine, and he might make his move soon." Miao Chun's face turned gloomy, and he casually wiped the water droplets from his face, revealing a rare hint of solemnity, with his eyebrows furrowed into a knot.
I can only sigh, what else can I do? I'm just an ordinary person. When faced with such a situation, all I can feel is fear and worry, it seems like there's nothing I can do, let alone resist. Now I really don't understand why that young man wants to put me in a desperate situation. We have no connection whatsoever, even if I die, I want to be a ghost who understands what happened. Lying on the ground, at this moment, I miss my parents so much. Although they can't help me either, but with them around, I would feel at ease.
"Kid, are you scared?" Miao Chun looked at me with an inexplicable expression on his face, and suddenly said: "I can help you, but only if you kowtow to me as your master; otherwise, I won't be able to go against our ancestral teachings to help you."
Apprentice? I was stunned at the time, looking up and down at Miao Chunyi, asking me to apprentice this old man wearing red underwear as a master, of course it's not impossible, but in my heart I feel strange, however thinking about it now, survival seems more important than anything else, but I still hesitated for a while before nodding heavily: "As long as I can survive, I will apprentice under you——"
"Alright, listen up!" Miao Chunyi suddenly stood up straight, his tall stature commanding attention, but the solemnity of his expression was somewhat undermined by the comical look on his face: "I am Miao Chunyi, the 67th generation disciple of the Quanzhen Sect. From today on, you will be under my tutelage and considered a member of the Quanzhen Sect. You must strictly adhere to our sect's teachings, cultivate your character and nurture your nature with virtue, and not violate human morality. As such, you will become the 68th generation disciple, and I shall confer upon you the name Liu Guanhai."
So I was given a new name, and that's how I became an apprentice. It didn't seem like the three kneels and nine bows, offering tea to the master, and burning incense at the mountain gate that I had imagined. My mind was filled with random thoughts as I stared blankly at Miao Chunyi, who would be my master from now on. He stood up straight, chest out and belly in, looking up at the sky with an expression that made me feel strange. Just then, I heard Miao Chunyi cough and say, "You little brat, aren't you going to kowtow and pay your respects? Do you want to exhaust me to death?"
