Chapter Thirty: Strange Change
Just as I was still thinking, **another wooden box was opened, but unlike the previous two boxes, this one did not contain precious items such as gold, silver and jewels, but was empty with nothing inside.
"Damn it, why is there nothing at all?" He cursed.
After hearing the sound, I looked at the box that was opened. My line of sight and his were different. He was standing looking into the box, while I was sitting on the ground roughly parallel to the box. All I saw was a black thing connected to the edge of the box's lid and mouth.
Looking at that black thing, I find it very strange. Did people in ancient times use iron to connect objects?
Look at this empty box with a face full of anger, only to see it being kicked hard, I thought the empty box would be kicked over or kicked to another place, but the result was completely different from what I expected. The wooden box didn't move and remained in its original position, as if it were stuck to the ground.
"Damn it." He twisted his right foot and cursed, but didn't continue to waste his effort on the empty wooden box. Instead, he walked over to the side of another wooden crate and used his handgun to pry open the lid.
Regarding the discovery of gold, silver, and jewels or strange boxes in tombs, my grandfather had also told me about it before. In his younger days when he was a grave digger, there were times when they found gold, silver, and jewels or strange boxes in tombs, but most of the time, Grandfather wouldn't touch those things. At that time, our family wasn't well off, sometimes we couldn't even live like ordinary people. I had asked Grandfather before why he didn't take away the gold, silver, and jewels or strange boxes when they found them, and at that time, Grandfather would always answer me: "The deceased have passed on, their burial goods should accompany them far away from the world." At that time, I didn't understand, so I kept asking Grandfather what he meant. Then Grandfather told me that if we were to move those gold, silver, and jewels or treasure boxes and such burial goods, it's possible that they would become new burial goods for those deceased people who had passed on.
He only saw the wooden box lid being lifted with a pistol, and just as he had barely opened a small gap, I only heard a crisp "bang" sound, as if something had broken.
That 'bang' sound wasn't from this wooden box that was just picked up, but rather it seemed to come from the empty box over there.
It was too late to speak, and in an instant, I felt a gust of wind rushing towards me. I couldn't get up and dodge in time, so I quickly tilted my head to the side, and suddenly it seemed like something had flown past me.
The place where I sat could be said to be very close to the stone wall behind me, because since entering through the stone gate, I haven't moved forward.
I turned around to look at the stone wall, thinking it would be some kind of hidden weapon or something, but when I turned my head back, there was nothing on the stone wall. Immediately, I lowered my head again to search for what it was.
It wasn't until I lowered my head that I discovered the object flying towards me was a thread-like, stringy substance, just like a single string on a violin, with great elasticity and not easily broken.
What is this thing? What's going on? I looked at the empty wooden box, and that 'bang' sound was clearly coming from inside it. Is this thread-like object flying out of there?
Before I could think much, I only heard a "click" sound, the entire stone room emitted a kind of "rumbling" sound, that faint green light and dazzling yellow light surged, the entire stone room was shrouded in these two lights.
Watching this sudden change, I hastily stood up and picked up the ancient sword to examine it carefully. Apparently, he also found that something was about to happen. He quickly ran to the two boxes filled with precious items, grabbed a handful of things from inside the box, stuffed them into his coat, and then retreated back.
Just as he had just retreated, the two lights flashed violently for a moment, and the "rumbling" sound also stopped abruptly. The entire stone room suddenly fell silent.
Although the "rumble" that made people feel flustered and panicked had stopped, this eerie silence was even more disturbing, a feeling of unease surged up in my heart.
Those two sounds undoubtedly proved that there must be some mechanism in this stone room. I don't know much about the mechanisms in ancient tombs, mostly just knowing a little from my grandfather's past experiences, but I've never experienced it myself. Moreover, there are countless mechanisms in the world, and how many of the mechanisms set by ancient people still exist today? I have no idea about the thoughts and mechanisms of ancient people.
At this time, the stone chamber fell into an unusual silence. The one who was previously trapped in madness also calmed down, apparently knowing that this stone chamber was not simple. Otherwise, relying on the previous frantic momentum, the position where I am standing now should be next to those two boxes filled with precious items.
The eerie silence is unsettling, this silence is not the kind that soothes the soul in nature, but rather the kind that makes one feel suffocated. The entire stone chamber's time seems to have been frozen as if under a spell.
Time was passing minute by minute, second by second. If it were in peacetime, this time wouldn't be long, but at this moment, it seemed like the seconds were dragging on for years. Suddenly, the nine boxes opposite me started shaking violently. I stared intently at those nine boxes, wondering if they would suddenly spit out nine complete corpses. We couldn't even deal with one complete corpse, let alone nine. If there really were nine complete corpses inside, I might as well just kill myself directly.
