A catalyst

  The Detective's Records

I heard the sound of flowers blooming in that quiet black night. The intoxicating sound, just like I heard the sound of my own heart breaking. Memories kept spreading until I couldn't breathe. His shadow appeared vaguely in my mind. Did he also miss the good times we had together? He suddenly smiled, and my world became radiant because of his smile.

"Everyone has a past they don't want others to know, and everyone's heart has an unknown dark side. So you won't be an exception either... Do you think you're as pure as an angel? One day, I'll make you see your own ugliness! Haha..." A sinister voice echoed in my mind, making me shiver with fear. It was strange, I searched through my memories, but couldn't recall who had said these words. Was I just overthinking? Or... was this just a figment of my imagination?"

My thoughts were pulled, as if I had returned to that winter night with a hint of chill. If life was only like the first sight, wouldn't it leave behind many beautiful fairy tales? That faint smile hung on his mouth, I couldn't see his eyes, but I felt they were shining brightly, his gaze stayed on me, making me understand, the man in front of me loved me, the myth of love at first sight finally happened to me, I felt my heart was about to jump out. But it was only for a moment, he suddenly disappeared, as if taken away by a vague shadow. Where did that gaze go? The person is gone, leaving only me secretly lamenting.

It was just a beautiful fairy tale, he disappeared from my life, but became eternal in my heart. This, perhaps, is the most unrealistic dream of every woman? Every woman hopes that her life will be as beautiful as poetry, hoping to meet her prince charming at the best time of her life. Searching high and low, someone as proud as I can certainly hope to meet the one who makes me fall in love at first sight. But it seems that I am gradually being left behind, let alone mentioning my profession, how many brave men dare to meet with me?

Ever since I mistakenly entered the police station and became a so-called psychological analyst consultant in charge of media contact, my identity suddenly became mysterious. Men with small guts, who dares to get close to me?

"You're too idealistic? Most rich playboys aren't handsome, and most handsome guys are poor. You don't really think you're a Snow White who'll be awakened by a prince with a kiss, do you?" Shaoyin's mouth always had a hint of a smile that mocked my thoughts.

"Be more realistic, silly girl. If you're willing, I can introduce you to a friend. He's not a rich second-generation kid, but he has a car and a house. He's a bit ugly, but he has money, which makes up for his shortcomings. You won't have to work hard anymore, just be a full-time wife, and he can afford it...

"You'd better keep it to yourself, I'm fine on my own." Having a friend like that always leaves one at a loss for whether to laugh or cry, especially when I'm fantasizing about my future, Shao Yin always manages to inopportunely shatter my dreams.

Is it really a dream? I gaze at myself in the mirror, having experienced heartbreak once, and it seems to have made me feel worn out. Women can't bear the torment of love, especially someone like me who yearns for a passionate and intense romance.

"People should be realistic, being too obsessed will only hurt yourself." Shaoyin patted my shoulder with a hint of helplessness, "Actually, breaking up is not bad. That poor boy can't even match up to you. As the saying goes, 'a poor couple suffers a hundred hardships', if you really married him, you'd probably suffer even more. But what I'm more curious about is, did you two ever have a romantic relationship? Every day he's working hard waiting for you, but how many chances did you truly give him?"

"Who made me so busy? Otherwise, he wouldn't have been taken away by someone else, right? He has a good eye for things, I heard that girl is very pretty and considerate, it's better than being stuck with me anyway?" I explained somewhat helplessly.

Shao Yin stopped the eyebrow pencil in her hand, with a thoughtful expression: "I remember when you were in school, you took psychology as an elective and got the highest score. That psychology professor wanted to recruit you into his department, didn't he? You can't really not see it, that poor kid doesn't actually love you like that, does he? When someone loves a person, how can they just watch them cry in front of them without caring, and whenever you need him, he always comes up with excuses to not show up, but instead...

"Are you ready to give me another lesson? But I think what you said isn't entirely unreasonable, maybe I should reflect on myself. However, no matter what kind of person he was in the past or how he treated me, we've already parted ways. Apart from time, it seems like I haven't lost anything else, just becoming his ex-girlfriend.

I looked at her with a tilted head. It's pointless to explain to her that my liking for him only lasted for an instant, and it was because of the radiant smile on his face when he smiled, which reminded me of him back then. After accepting his confession, I actually regretted it too, plus work has been busy so not seeing him became a normal state. He should also be regretful to find out that I'm not the lady he imagined but rather a slightly crazy woman.

The breakup was liberating for both of us. However, there are some things he did that weren't quite right. Since it's already in the past, then it doesn't matter what anymore?"

"Of course, it doesn't matter anymore. I've said it before, the sooner the better. You'll have plenty of opportunities in the future. But shouldn't you meet those people I introduced to you?" Shao Yin blinked a few times, her small eyes carrying an inexplicable charm.

I shook my head vigorously, declining her kindness. Fortunately, we were just friends; if it had been a family member, who knows what kind of way they would have packaged me and then sold me off? Shaoyin always hoped that others would act according to her wishes, probably because I was an exception in her eyes, as I had always been indifferent towards her. As a result, our relationship wasn't distant, but neither was it particularly close.

After careful consideration, Shao Yin is a very special girl. She knows how to make the most of her assets and use her body language effectively. In other words, she has high emotional intelligence. That's why she knows how to win men's hearts, even though she isn't particularly beautiful. As a result, there are always men trying to please her, especially those willing to spend lavishly on her. Compared to her, I seem like just a primary school student, only thinking about my own preferences.
