Chapter Twenty-Three: Who Is It?
In the following time, there were no more guests in the small wooden house, and I managed to hold on until 4 am, locked the door after work, and left.
After returning home, I immediately called my uncle and asked about the situation on that side, but this phone call suddenly lifted my spirits.
My uncle just told me that they received a call from the municipal bureau about ten minutes ago, and they said we can visit my father now!
This was great news for me, so I quickly made a phone call to wake up the guy who drove me to the municipal bureau last time and asked him to drive me there again.
This guy is also particular, after receiving my phone call, he came straight away without saying a word.
When we arrived at the Municipal Public Security Bureau, I saw my mother and my uncle and aunt as well as my elder brother from my own family.
My uncle told me that just now the other party gave them a 15-minute visit, and they saw my father. My father is fine. Judging from his physical appearance, he has not been abused, but his spirit has dropped a lot, and he looks much older.
I saw that my mother's eyes were still red, and I knew she had just cried. So I comforted her: "Mom, don't worry, I've already asked someone to pull some strings, and I believe it won't take long before we get news, and I'm sure Dad will be fine."
My mother didn't respond to what I said, just as if she hadn't heard it at all.
After that, I asked them to follow me back home, after all, staying in the city didn't serve any purpose. But my mother refused to leave until there was some result with my father. In the end, I couldn't persuade her, so I had my elder brother drive Yin Lao Liu's car and temporarily send my uncles back to the village first, then pick up two aunts to help take care of my mother. After all, it's more convenient for women to be together.
After finishing all these things, I and my brother who drove me here went back to the city and then directly asked him to drive me to Beishan Cemetery.
I went to the North Mountain Cemetery just to ask my good friend, Yin Ye. He said that if I mention his name, that young man would help me out. But last night, it seemed like mentioning him had the opposite effect. If it weren't for the appearance of that mysterious masked woman later on, I still wouldn't know what to do!
After the guy who drove me here left in his car, I smashed that small wooden hut at the foot of the cemetery with all my might.
"Knock knock knock——"
"Old Yin, open the door! I have something to ask you, hurry up and open the door!"
Then I heard a very lazy voice coming from inside, "Who is it? Come on in! Knock gently on the door, the door isn't sturdy, don't knock it to pieces."
"Squeak——"
The door opened and Yin Lao Liu's head poked out from inside.
As soon as I saw the door open, I pushed Yin Lao Liu aside and walked in without any courtesy.
"What's wrong with you? Did you take the wrong medicine or something? How can you be so rude? You just pushed me away as soon as I came up. And let me remind you, I'm your boss, I'm the one paying your salary, is this how you treat me?"
I didn't pay attention to Old Six's complaints, but instead sat down unceremoniously in a rattan chair inside the wooden hut, poured myself a cup of tea, and only after draining it did I respond to him.
"I said, Old Yin, didn't you say that mentioning your name would be enough to get that young man to help?"
Seeing me ask like this, Old Yin nodded and said: "Yes, how is it? What did he say?"
"What's going on? I didn't even mention you and everything was fine, but as soon as I bring you up, they immediately turn against me, without even leaving any room for negotiation. I said to Old Yin, 'Your face is really not worth much, is it? Are you actually helping me or harming me?'"
As soon as I said that, Yin Lao Liu's face suddenly changed. He looked serious and asked me: "What exactly did he say?"
"He said you're not even worth a fart! He said you're all talk and no action, and he told me to turn around and tell you that this is what Cao Wanjun said. Let me tell you, if he didn't mention your name, he might have had some sympathy and helped me out. But once he mentioned your name, he said there's nothing he can do to help. He also said to let him make it clear to you that don't think he's an idiot who doesn't know anything, some things are now crystal clear to him, he just can't afford to mess with you. And as he was leaving, he even snorted in disdain." I almost repeated his words verbatim.
As soon as I said that, Yin Lao Liu's face turned gloomy and terrifying, so dark it seemed like water could be squeezed out of it.
"He... really said that to you?" Yin Lao's eyebrows rose, his eyes gleaming with a hint of sharpness.
"That's right! He told me exactly those words, go ahead, how do you explain?"
I asked him like this, and Yin Lao Liu seemed to be thinking of something. Then, he suddenly grinned at me and said: "Little guy, don't worry, if Cao Wanjun is not willing to help you, I'll think of another way to help you."
Seeing him smiling at me, my anger dissipated by half. As the saying goes, "Don't hit a smiling face," and he's an old man, so I sighed and said to him: "Well! Later, a mysterious woman came, she volunteered, expressed her willingness to help me, but asked me to agree to one condition, after I agreed, she mysteriously disappeared."
"What's mysterious about her?" asked Yin Laoliu.
"I don't know, judging from her figure, she probably doesn't look good, but she's wearing a mask, who knows what's going on, maybe she was disfigured before she died?"
Seeing me say this, Yin Lao Liu shook his head and said: "It doesn't make sense. Most of the dead ghosts who can go to the small wooden house are those who have opened their ghostly wisdom. For guys like them, repairing a ruined face shouldn't be difficult. I reckon it's possible that she is unwilling to reveal her true appearance in front of others, and even more likely, she doesn't want to reveal her true appearance in front of you!"
"Why don't you show your true face in front of me? Why don't you reveal your true self to me?" I found it quite strange when I heard this.
"Who knows! It's highly possible that she knew you before, so she was afraid you'd recognize her and didn't dare show her true face." Yin Laosixi thought.
"Did you know me before I was born?! Who could it be?!"
As soon as I heard Old Six say this, my brain started racing quickly.
Was it one of my three deceased girlfriends from the past?
This possibility is very great!
After all, they were once the women I loved. It's highly likely that their spirits would linger and find me after death. Moreover, apart from these three, I couldn't think of any other woman who would be willing to help me voluntarily.
There is something I don't quite understand.
That's the woman who came to the cabin to find me, her figure is really too good! Although the three girlfriends I had before were not bad in terms of figure, they didn't reach that level at all.
Is it said that after a person dies and becomes a ghost, this body can be adjusted?
Just as I was lost in thought, Yin Laoliu interrupted me: "Hey, little guy, what are you thinking about?"
Seeing him ask me like this, I woke up from my thoughts: "I wonder who this woman is, is she someone I know? Ah! Old Yin, I'll ask you something, can that mysterious woman really help me?"
Seeing me ask like this, Yin Lao Liu smiled and said: "What? When you asked for my help, you still called me old man? I know you're angry with me, but can't you be a bit more respectful to your elders?"
"Alright! Can't I just call you Old Master Yin? Are you still bothered about this?! Never mind, let's get down to business. You tell me, is it reliable that this mysterious woman agreed to help me?"
Yin Lao Liu smiled and said: "Reliable, of course reliable. As long as she agrees to you, it should be possible."
"Really? How can you be so sure?" I asked curiously, sizing him up.
Yin Lao Liu smiled and said, "I've spent my whole life dealing with the dead and communicating with ghosts. For these ghosts that exist in the dark, ordinary people might be afraid or even disdainful. However, what many people don't understand is that when they promise to do something, they will always follow through. Their promises are far more reliable than those of us living humans who scheme and plot against each other."
After listening to Old Six Yin say this, I felt a lot more at ease in my heart. However, I was still puzzled as to who the woman would be that would help me?
I didn't know that, just as I was thinking about this kind of thing, I didn't notice that Old Six Yin seemed to be thinking about something too, and the corners of his mouth were crookedly raised... The noble gathering hall is shrouded in ominous fate.
