Chapter Eighteen: Old Hatreds and New Enmities
Su Luo burst out laughing: "It's said that a daughter is her father's little cotton-padded jacket, today I thoroughly experienced the feeling. Nanjiang is the provincial capital, so there should be plenty of opportunities. The key is that our family can still be together."
"Is happiness not?" Su Miliang smugly farted.
"Happiness, but Dad is thinking, how did you suddenly become so sensible, so emotional, and so insightful."
"In the past, I was ignorant because I had you to rely on, so I could be reckless; now that you're facing difficulties, it's my duty to help you share your worries. On the surface, it's for Dad, but in essence, it's still for myself, because in this world, no one will spoil me like you do and let me depend on them!"
Su Mei Liang held onto her father's arm, pouting and swaying as she spoke, affectionate and natural. Her bright smile had a hint of childishness and cuteness, making her look even more lovely and adorable.
Su Luo obviously enjoyed it, laughing even more peacefully: "Let's go, feel like going to eat, it's almost time for dinner."
While speaking, she let her daughter pull her arm and took the phone on the table to call Zhang Ju in the finance department to go eat together.
Out of the office, Su Miling still insisted on pulling her father to the rooftop to enjoy the view, citing that there were still 15 minutes before dinner time.
This office building is the tallest in the factory, and the top floor is deliberately designed as a viewing platform similar to a sky garden. Standing on it, overlooking the surging Nanjiang River, looking up at the majestic Yulong Mountain, the beautiful scenery of Dayong City is all in sight.
Su Mei Liang relives the old dreams of the past, looking up at her father with a sigh, perhaps only those who have lost loved ones can understand how precious and grateful it is to regain them.
She racked her brains to recall the location of the explosion, stood on the top floor and looked around, and finally confirmed that it was a vacant area in the south of the factory area. There was a wall there, and along the wall, a simple house was being built, apparently intending to cover something. It was chaotic, with people measuring, laying lines, and various building materials piled high.
"Dad, what are those people busy with on the empty land? Are they going to expand the factory?"
Su Luo looked in that direction, furrowed his brow and said: "It's inexplicable, the factory has clearly emptied out a space to install the assembly line workshop, but he insists on me building a new wooden house instead. Where is the long-term plan in having a cold-in-winter-and-hot-in-summer wooden house?"
"It's strange, the buildings in the factory seem to be leaning towards the north side, leaving a large piece of land empty on the south side. Why didn't the designers consider an even layout at the beginning? It would have looked much better that way." Su Miling asked casually.
"That place was not originally enclosed within the factory area, it was only later when the expansion took place that it was included inside. The building under our feet is not the original main building, the original main structure is that one over there."
Su Luo pointed back and pointed to a short three-story building further north.
"How come I didn't know?" Su Miling said with some surprise.
"Heh, it's not something you'd know about after being born, of course. Look, from north to south, this building isn't getting taller and more modernized as we go along?" Su Luohe said, gesturing for her to take a look at the row of buildings from different eras.
Su Mei Liang looked very seriously, indeed it is so, from the earliest blue brick building to red brick building, and then to compressed gray brick building, and then to the building with powder on the outer wall, with crystal stone grid pattern or ceramic tile, it's simply a miniature history of architectural materials across different eras.
"Cover the factory, need to be approved by relevant departments in the city, do professionals review it?" Su Miling couldn't express her underlying worries, she always felt that the unstable factor seemed to be hidden under that vast empty land in the south, but what could have such a huge explosive power?
She really can't think of it.
"This is the site within our factory, not a public community development. As long as the factory has the ability to build it up, who cares? The construction team belongs to a building company with excellent qualifications and has cooperated with us for more than three or five times."
"Was the specific construction team recommended by him?"
Su Luo nodded slightly.
"Dad, who is that person?" Su Miling suddenly asked seriously.
Su Luo sighed: "It's not good for kids to know too much, they can't calm down, don't ask anymore."
He thought his daughter was being too weird today, all the questions were circling around that one thing, making him uneasy, and his reaction was so big that even his daughter noticed it, really getting more and more muddled with age.
Su Mei Liang didn't intend to give up, she said with a playful tone:
"I'm guessing, the municipal party secretary is a parachute appointment, you belong to the local faction, it's impossible for you to get close to him;"
The mayor might be possible, but if he wants to manage such things, his hands will be too long and will be caught by several deputy mayors who are eyeing his position. Moreover, it's not time for the election yet, and he doesn't need to take risks to make money.
Even if he wanted to, it's possible that his heart wasn't in it or he didn't have enough energy?
He is nearly fifty years old, and it's said that his power has been largely stripped away by several powerful deputy mayors. The only one who can sign business agreements on your behalf, apart from Vice Mayor Zhou Tao, who is in charge of finance, is probably unable to intervene even if they want to."
Her dark pupils shone with a mysterious color in the sunlight, and she stared tightly at Su Luo's expression.
Su Luo sank into contemplation, and indeed, these few main leaders in the city were just as she had said, but how did she know all this?
"Sometimes at the dinner table I hear you and mom muttering about it." Su Miling explained very reasonably.
Su Luo helplessly raised his hand and patted her head: "Girl, it's not good for a girl to be too clever."
"Dad, arriving at such a result requires only simple logical reasoning, no need to be too clever."
Similarly, if you want to counterattack, just take the proper route. No matter how powerful he is, there are still people more powerful than him. After all, this factory is a major taxpayer in the city, and you're not someone who can be easily belittled.
"When dealing with people in the political circle, pay attention to manipulating the media as vanguard, and naturally there will be his political enemies who will fall into the well. You have materials in your hands, and you can also shake them out together. It's best to beat the fallen dog, so that he can't turn over again."
Su Mei Liang said this, and couldn't help but think of the past. After her father's death, Zhou Tao had pretended to comfort them, a widowed mother and orphaned children, just for show. However, the compensation for her father's sacrifice in the line of duty was frozen because he had ordered all the factory's assets and liquid funds to be frozen, so it could not be issued.
Mom repeatedly asked him to explain, but he avoided seeing her. In the end, the secretary intervened and he had no choice but to transfer the account to mom's account. However, this was followed by an investigation into who was responsible for the accident, and all sorts of dirty water poured down on them.
Zhou Jinyu's marriage was fruitless, apparently inseparable from Zhou Tao's sabotage. He let a scapegoat daughter become his daughter-in-law, which must have been infuriating for him; however, knowing the exact amount of the huge compensation, he hinted to his son to take advantage of her, which is not impossible.
