Chapter 1: Ruins

Volume 1: Night Visit to the Vampire Chapter 1: Ruins

Just past midnight, a few wisps of smoke rose from nowhere on the desolate and dilapidated street, like the tentacles of a monster slowly crawling. (Ha eighteen pure text) The iron railings and mottled walls crisscrossed before my eyes, and no matter which direction I looked, there was endless darkness and the unknown opening its arms to welcome and devour several unsuspecting visitors.

Four girls huddled together under the only dim street lamp at the crossroads, accompanied by a tattered and dirty yellow lampshade above their heads and a swarm of moths gathered around them.

Ling Lan gazed at the battery level displayed on her DV screen, feeling a bit frustrated as she pressed the shutdown button. It had been an hour since they got off the taxi, and the four girls had been walking around this desolate neighborhood with timid steps, achieving nothing but satisfying their adventurous spirit and capturing the crumbling scenery of the night, which was all they got.

The person they really wanted to find and record was nowhere to be found.

"I say, waiting like this isn't a solution either..." The girl Yue Tong's doll-like voice trembled as she elbowed Ling Lan beside her.

Ling Lan didn't wait for Yue Tuo to finish speaking, and she refuted him in a bad mood. "You want to go back? Please, it was you who proposed coming here in the evening, and now you're telling us to return empty-handed?" Ling Lan touched the hard object inside her backpack, feeling unwilling to give up.

Yue Tong shook his head hastily, "No, no, I mean we should look for him in the dark places. Do you think he'll come out on his own and find us under the streetlights?"

As soon as the words fell, a burst of feminine sighs and whispers came, and Meng Yusi gave Yue Tong a white eye, with a resolute expression that refused to budge. It was Feng Jia's eyes that flashed with a hint of brightness, and after a few seconds, this big sister in the dormitory took the first step like a milestone.

"Let's go, since we're all here." Without another word, Feng Jia strode towards a dark corner with large steps.

Ling Lan steeled herself and followed Feng Jia, walking a few steps before she realized that the mysterious faint mist was coming from that corner. The mist was just like the props used in movies to create an eerie atmosphere, Ling Lan thought, but she didn't stop her footsteps.

Feng Jia turned around when she reached the corner, and saw two followers closely behind her. Even Meng Yusi, who was under the streetlight, ran towards them with a sudden burst of speed. As a faithful movie buff, Meng Yusi knew that in movies, the first person to fall behind often became the initial cannon fodder.

While waiting for Meng Yu Si to catch up with them, Ling Lan vigilantly looked around and then handed the flashlight to Yue Tuo, herself reopening the DV to read the latest chapter of "The Wind and Clouds Small Farmer".

Yue Tong shone a light for Ling Lan while supporting her as she moved forward, just like a photography assistant. Feng Jia acted as the vanguard, walking at the very front, and at the back was the timid Meng Yu Si tightly clutching Yue Tong's hem.

Suddenly, Ling Lan's breathing shook slightly. She didn't dare believe her eyes and quickly replayed the last scene on her DV.

Three girls came over and asked her if she had found something.

The screen of Ling Lan's DV showed a dark street that was slowly changing direction. The moonlight, the distant streetlights, and the light from Yue Tang's flashlight all came together to coincidentally sweep across a black figure.

Ling Lan pressed the pause button, then pointed at a blurry black shadow in the distance on the screen. "He appeared, he appeared! Although it was fleeting, I still recorded it!"

Feng Jia excitedly grabbed the DV and stared at the black shadow with wide eyes. After a few seconds, she shook her head in disappointment, "I must have seen it wrong, maybe it was just a vagrant nearby or someone who walked by at night."

"Why?" The other three girls asked in unison, why did Feng Jia determine that the black shadow was not the real target they wanted to explore tonight?

Feng Jia pointed to the protruding part in the middle of the black shadow, and several girls suddenly realized that this was obviously a side view of a man with a big belly. He also opened his two legs, apparently walking. Indeed, the person they were looking for could not be such a figure, he should be elegant and charming, fascinating, irresistible, and mind-blowing...

"Clang" a sound came from afar, the sound of metal crashing, seemingly the sound of an iron gate closing. The four girls were startled by the sound and simultaneously shrugged their shoulders, their faces pale with fear. Ling Lan had a premonition that tonight would definitely not be in vain!

This is the site of an old industrial base in S city's old town from the 1980s, with dilapidated factory buildings and piles of industrial waste everywhere, earning it the reputation as a forgotten dark corner.

In the past few years, this place was still bustling with activity, a gathering place for vagrants and also a hotbed of illicit dealings. However, after two vagrants mysteriously died here half a year ago, rumors spread like wildfire, and the place truly fell into disuse. After the mass exodus of vagrants, there wasn't a single soul left, not even the hoodlums and gangsters from the city who had also abandoned this treasure trove. The original plan to develop this land into a suburban park was also shelved.

Ling Lan didn't believe that the black shadow was a lone vagrant guarding this place, who had ever seen a vagrant with such a big belly? She also didn't think it could be their target for tonight. Ling Lan and the three girls were fundamentally different, with a completely different level of thinking. She hadn't wavered in her thoughts at all - the target they were looking for simply did not exist in reality!

Ling Lan came with DV and three roommates, not only because of her damned spirit of pursuing the root of things, but also because of her strong curiosity. Most importantly, she wanted to catch the criminal who used legend as a cover and still chose to conduct illegal transactions here. That's why Ling Lan spent money buying a popular electric baton to carry with her tonight, ready to make good use of it.

Four girls crept along the sound to a low-rise factory building's back door. The voice came from the gap in the half-underground black iron gate, and Yue Tong's flashlight clearly illuminated a row of footprints on the thick dust accumulated at the entrance, which only went in but not out, leaving no doubt that the owner of the footprints was still inside, possibly the same big-bellied man who had just passed by.

Feng Jia still maintained her fearless and reckless spirit, being the first to squeeze through the gap in the door.

It seems like there's no turning back now, Yue Tong thought to herself. She couldn't just shout out loud: "Feng Jia, come out quickly!" Nor could she possibly leave Feng Jia behind alone, so she had no choice but to follow him in as the second person.

Ling Lan was somewhat excited, she turned her head and glanced at Meng Yu Si who had tears in her eyes and shook her head violently to show her protest. She whispered softly, "You wait for us outside, if we don't come out within half an hour, call the police."

Ling Lan shook off Meng Yu Si's hand and resolutely entered the unknown world behind the black iron gate. (Download this book by entering or searching for "book name + Ha Shi Ba") You can search for "Mi Qing Zhui Xiong Ha Shi Ba" on Baidu to find the latest updates of this book!
