Chapter Thirteen: The Great Leap of the Tai Sui
With his men, Qin Feng and Lin Ruochen arrived at the western suburbs of Jingchuan City in a Passat.
Thanks to the strong support and sponsorship of the municipal government for real estate development, the business of the construction company where Manager Liu is located is also booming. So, with a plan in mind, he waved his hand and bought these two or three small hills in front of him, preparing to build a suburban villa complex.
The surrounding hills are now lush with green grass, stretching endlessly. Perhaps due to construction and environmental planning, Qin Feng didn't see a single tree as far as the eye could see. Only in the small villa in the southeast were some cypress and willow trees planted.
Continue walking forward, already arrived at the hill, saw that Manager Liu had been waiting for a long time. Qin Feng walked over, and Manager Liu was also polite, smiling slightly in response, and told Qin Feng that Cong Cong's illness had improved a lot in these few days, followed by words of gratitude.
"Manager Liu, why is there no one working on the construction site now?"
Seeing the foundation that had just been excavated standing idle in front of him, desolate and bleak, Qin Feng felt puzzled.
"Alas, never mind, Master Qin," Manager Liu sighed with a worried expression.
"What's wrong, Manager Liu?"
"It's like this, although the project has only just started two or three months ago, there are always accidents happening. Just last month, a construction worker died on site, reportedly run over by an excavator. The boss tried to minimize the impact and temporarily put the 'Mountain Garden Villa' project on hold. Fortunately, the company is now preparing to restart the project, hopefully without any more issues."
"Manager Liu, where is that foreman Dahei you mentioned?" Foreman Dahei was the person Manager Liu said had given him the box. Qin Feng thought to himself, as long as he could get Dahei to reveal where he had picked up the box, he would be able to find Zhang Lai's tomb and possibly understand why such strange accidents had been happening on the construction site.
Manager Liu was also very thoughtful and thorough, knowing that Qin Feng might ask about Da Hei, so he had brought Da Hei along early.
"This is Bao Gongtou Dahei!" Manager Liu introduced the man behind him to Qin Feng. "This is Xiao Qin, a master from the funeral home."
Qin Feng didn't know why he was called Da Hei until he saw him. Seeing his sturdy build, his whole body tanned dark by the sun, plus a bald head, he looked like an African man. But although Da Hei looked like a domineering person, he was actually very gentle and kind-hearted. As soon as Liu Manager introduced himself, Da Hei hurriedly smiled foolishly and greeted Qin Feng.
"Dahai is a country bumpkin, he's just honest and doesn't know how to speak, don't mind him, Master Qin." Manager Liu hastily added.
"Hey, Big Black, do you still recognize this thing?" Qin Feng said, getting to the point, and took out that box from his amber-colored slanting backpack, handing it over to Big Black for a closer look.
"Isn't this thing the box I gave to Manager Liu?!" Da Hei asked in his thick Shandong accent, staring at the box repeatedly.
It seems that Dahei has remembered. Although the Shandong dialect has some changes in tone, Qin Feng can still hear the meaning of this sentence and excitedly asked Dahei: "Then Master Dahei, do you remember where you were dug up from?"
"This... let me think for a moment." Da Hei Shifu turned around, scanning the surroundings while trying his best to recall where he had dug up this box when operating the excavator.
"It seems to be over there..." Dahei pointed with his right hand to the foundation that had already been excavated. Qin Feng followed him, and the foundation hadn't been fully dug out, it seemed like only a small part of the soil had been removed, Qin Feng could still see the outside environment after jumping down. At this time, Dahei carefully identified the surroundings, and soon he shouted to Qin Feng: "Master Qin, it's here!"
Not long after, Da Hei found the place where he had picked up Huanhuan, a small hill outside the foundation.
The soil of the hill seems to have been disturbed by human activity, with weeds growing all around and dead leaves scattered everywhere. The foundation has moved about half of the hill, but it is still possible to make out its original shape.
"Little Qin master, I was just looking for it in this area. At that time, the black box was buried in the soil. When I started digging with an excavator, I found this box." Dahei gestured with his hands, fearing that Qin Feng wouldn't understand what he was saying. Qin Feng understood what Dahei meant and thought carefully, feeling that since this place was where the box was dug up, it should be the location of a tomb.
"Are you sure? Big Black Master."
"Ah, I remember this place had a lot of grass, and at that time I even complained that the excavator was not easy to use here."
Now that it was decided, Qin Feng took out his compass and carefully examined the surroundings of the tomb.
"No wonder there are always accidents, this year's Tai Sui is in the east, and the grave is in the west, it just so happens that the east side of Tai Sui has been disturbed. It seems they didn't know that you can't dig up the earth on Tai Sui's head." After looking for a while, Qin Feng discovered some clues: "Ah, this project not only clashed with Tai Sui, but also destroyed the Ming Tang in front of the grave, which means the feng shui of the grave has been completely ruined by you guys." Qin Feng finally understood why this project always had big and small problems, the reason was right here.
If it's this tomb, then there should be four small hills around it, serving as guardian spirits to watch over it. However, even if that were the case, those things would still be hard to find now. The only thing is that this one tomb still exists, but Qin Feng discovered that inside it was pitch black and full of dirt.
Pinch out a bit to take a closer look, and it seems that this thing is like a compound of charcoal, somewhat like the ash of wild grass burned. "What's this?" asked Da Hei Shifu in doubt.
"It's a bit like charcoal!" Manager Liu expressed his own thoughts.
"Kobayashi, you're better at chemistry than I am, can you take a look at what this is?"
She pinched off a small amount of black substance from Qin Feng's hand, Lin Ruochen took a look and didn't know what it was either, but she could confirm that this was something produced after burning.
"So that's it, is this the corpse of that vengeful spirit?" Qin Feng muttered to himself, and it was very likely that this was indeed the corpse of that vengeful spirit.
However, thinking of this problem again, it's possible that there are other graves in this place. If we can't accurately determine and understand the situation, it will be difficult to make those resentful spirits surrender.
"Manager Liu, now the four of us will split up in the four directions of east, south, west, and north from this place as the center, to see if there are any more small hills similar to tombs." At this point, it's probably only possible to start with this aspect. If we can really find one, it would mean that this box is indeed a container for sealing souls, and the deceased was indeed subjected to the curse of the Gu.
"Why is that, Master Qin? Isn't the tomb over there?" Manager Liu still didn't know the reason behind it and couldn't understand Qin Feng's intention. Qin Feng had no choice but to tell Manager Liu what was going on and ask for his help, as this was the only way to completely cure Cong Cong's illness.
Although they didn't quite understand, Manager Liu and Dahei still followed Qin Feng's instructions to search east and west respectively, while Qin Feng and Lin Ruochen searched south and north, within a radius of 100 meters.
"Now I'll explain the real meaning of the Chinese idiom 'too much movement on Tai Sui's head'. In ancient times, people referred to Jupiter as 'Tai Sui' and divided the sky into twelve sections. Every year, Jupiter would pass through one section, each with its own name. It was said that when Tai Sui was in a certain direction, construction or excavation should not be done in that area, otherwise it would offend Tai Sui and bring disaster. Later on, people used the phrase 'too much movement on Tai Sui's head' to scold others for offending them, showing off their own power."
The traditional Chinese method of numbering years is called the Ganzhi calendar, which is formed by combining ten heavenly stems (Jia, Yi, Bing, Ding, Wu, Ji, Geng, Xin, Ren, Gui) and twelve earthly branches (Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu, Hai) in sequence. It starts with Jiazi and ends with Guihai. A cycle takes 60 years to complete, known as a Jiazi. Legend has it that within these 60 years, one god is sent down from heaven each year to preside over the fortunes and misfortunes of human beings for that year, as well as the fortunes and misfortunes of people born in that year throughout their lives. The common people respectfully refer to these gods as Tai Sui, and since there are 60 Tai Sui in a cycle of 60 years, they are collectively known as the 60 Jiazi Gods.
The sixty gods of Tai Sui have existed since the Northern and Southern Dynasties, but by the early Qing dynasty, all sixty names were changed to what is now found in temples that worship Tai Sui.
The common people's year of birth, if the same as the value of the year, is called "offending Tai Sui" in folklore. If the year of birth clashes with Tai Sui, it is called "clashing Tai Sui". A poem says: "Tai Sui sits on your head, no joy, only disaster." According to the records of the Twelve Main Stars: "When Tai Sui sits on your head, there will be disasters and calamities, punishment, clashes, harm, and ghosts pushing and grinding. If you encounter the ominous god in the current year, it will be difficult to avoid bloodshed and disaster." Therefore, no matter what kind of clash it is, in that year, everything will go wrong, careers will be hindered, and illnesses will occur frequently. Thus, it is necessary to worship Tai Sui Xing Jun to ensure peace and safety.
Each of the sixty Jiazi has a corresponding Tai Sui, and the Tai Sui that corresponds to one's birth year is called the Ben Ming Nian Tai Sui. To find out your own Ben Ming Nian Tai Sui, simply look up the name of your Jiazi in the sixty Jiazi cycle.
If it's breaking ground for building a house, you should avoid the direction where Tai Sui is located this year. This means that you can't break ground above Tai Sui's head, or else there will be bad luck. Many people around here are good at reading the calendar, although I don't know if it's accurate or not, but it's better to believe in its existence.
