Chapter Fifteen: Mysterious Death
I was stimulated by the word "her", and I thought that Ah Feng not only knew the female ghost, but also had a very familiar relationship with her.
I asked him again, what kind of person the female ghost was. But Lu Yifeng seemed absent-minded and didn't answer me, just nodding repeatedly and saying she came at a good time.
His current expression is also very serious, I can feel it, he shows a hint of respect from inside out.
Lu Yifeng glanced at the time and changed the subject, saying to us, "It's getting late, since there's nothing unexpected, let's continue sleeping."
I looked at the sofa and felt envious, wanting to discuss with Panzi whether we could redraw lots, but Panzi refused, putting on a defensive posture, and climbed up onto it.
The latter half of the night passed quietly, and at around 6:00 in the morning, the old man got up, wearing a tracksuit, seemingly intending to go out for a run.
This got us anxious, I thought the outside wasn't peaceful, and at night there were strange lights and white-haired ghosts coming to cause trouble. This old man didn't know how to hide at home, but instead went out wandering around, was he dissatisfied with his own long life?
The two of us tried to persuade him, but the old man was stubborn and insisted on going out. In the end, we had to physically stop him, and he didn't struggle anymore. He just said that he didn't need our protection and told us to leave in the morning. Then he turned around and went back into the house.
The old man's unreasonable behavior makes me angry, but since it's a matter of life and death, I couldn't bear to ignore him.
The two of us gathered around the table to discuss what to do, and Lu Yifeng had an idea. He said that this building was not very safe, and if we took the old man to the police station to hide for a while, we could also relax.
I think it's no problem, the police station is definitely a fortress, and if that white-haired ghost still doesn't give up, just come and try, it will definitely be caught.
Lu Yufeng immediately called Cao Yuan and asked him to think of a way to find a good mediator.
Cao Yuan also had a lot of connections locally, and after an hour, he called back to say that the old man had a fellow apprentice from his early years who was a retired detective from the police bureau. He asked the old detective to come forward and bring the old man out to talk together to see if they could persuade him.
The plan was settled, and the old man hiding in the house must have received a call too. Not long after, he came out wearing a neat and tidy outfit, telling us gruffly that we could leave.
Cao Yuan also mentioned on the phone where they would meet, a small baozi shop in Longzhou.
This makes me somewhat puzzled. On the surface, it's said that brothers who are fellow disciples rarely meet and chat, so why choose a baozi shop? Shouldn't they at least book a hotel with suites?
But the old man took advantage of the gap to say a word, which made me feel more at ease. As soon as he heard that it was that baozi shop, his mood improved, and he said that he remembered the scene of him and his fellow apprentices going to eat baozi together in the past.
It seems that Cao Yuan and others used a trick of touching the scene and giving birth to emotions.
We arrived on time. It wasn't mealtime yet, so the baozi shop was empty, and we two groups of people found a table by the window to sit around.
I found Cao Yuan's gaze quite venomous, this old detective is indeed good at playing with his tongue, first chatting about the interesting things he did with Lao Ren in his early years, and then taking the opportunity to insert a few sentences in between, implying that he wanted to go to the police station with Lao Ren.
But this old man is too nostalgic, not wanting to leave his small house for a day. I found that this meeting was almost becoming a debate by the end. The two old friends argued back and forth, with Cao Yuan and Lu Yifeng occasionally interjecting a word of advice.
The old man lazily said, finding a teacup and slapping it with his palm. His palm strength was really fierce, instantly shattering the teacup into several pieces.
He pointed at the teacup and said, "If that blind fool wants to harm me, I'll let him taste the ferocity of my iron sand palm."
He revealed this trick and shocked us all, taking advantage of the opportunity, the old man got up and went to the toilet.
We see him not leaving the baozi shop, and he didn't find anyone to follow us either. What are we going to do now?
Cao Yuan and Lu Yifeng both thought of a way to go. If this old man still doesn't listen, we'll have to tie him up and take him to the police station.
I believe Cao Yuan has this skill, I've seen his ferocity during interrogations with my own eyes.
But we had made our plan and waited for a good quarter of an hour, but the old man still hadn't returned.
Cao Yuan cursed and said, "This old thing hasn't eaten anything, how can he go to the toilet and take a shit? For so long!"
Lu Yifeng gave me and Panzi a look, I understood what he meant, he wanted us to go over and take a look.
From the negotiation until now, Panzi and I were not the main force. I didn't want us to be idle, so I took on this task and invited Panzi to come along.
The toilet in this baozi shop is divided into male and female compartments, both are small enclosed houses. I and Panzi approached the men's toilet door, I twisted the doorknob and found that there was someone inside.
I knocked heavily on the door and asked, "Uncle, are you in?"
No one answered me inside, only a flush of water came, and I waited for more than half a minute. The door opened.
I stared blankly at the person who came out, he wasn't an old man, but rather around thirty years old, quite fair-skinned.
He stared at me and Panzi, then asked, "Why are you calling me Uncle?"
I thought he was really self-loving, even in the toilet he wanted to take advantage of me, but I didn't have time to entangle with this little guy, what I care about is where did the old man go?
The young man didn't say much either and walked away with his head down.
I still had some doubts, so I went to the men's toilet to take a look and make sure there was no hidden space. Then I thought of another possibility - what if that old man ran away while we weren't paying attention? So I wanted to bring Panzi out to inform everyone.
But Panzi pulled me back, pointing to the women's toilet and saying, "Xiaobai, do you think the old man would hide in there? The men's toilet had people in it all along, so he was desperate to pee and used the women's toilet instead."
This analysis is also possible, but the women's toilet was also closed, I'm afraid that if we rashly knock on the door, we'll be scolded as rascals.
Pan Zi didn't care about that and started knocking loudly.
I listened carefully, and there was no sound coming from the women's restroom. I just happened to glance down and saw a bit of red at the bottom of the door.
What's going on? I carefully moved my foot forward a bit, but as soon as I did that, I brought out a trail of blood.
My heart sank and I knew something was wrong. I quickly told Panzi to go find Luyu Feng and the others, and then I kicked the door handle shut again.
The lock on this women's toilet is actually quite simple, I can easily open it with a wire or card, but I don't want to show off such petty thievery in front of everyone.
I kicked a few times with the same effect, and after a few kicks, I broke the door handle. I pulled hard a few more times and finally managed to pull the door open with a creak.
I had expected something terrible to happen, but I didn't think it would be this serious. As soon as the door opened, the old man's body leaned out and stuck right to my belly.
An old man had a small hole in his neck, and blood was gushing out of it. His clothes and my pants were all stained red.
The old man still had a breath left, but it was very weak. He sniffled his nose. I noticed that he had just written two words on the wall of the toilet with his finger - monk.
I was momentarily baffled by what the monk meant, I just wanted to get him to the hospital and see if he could be saved.
Lu Yifeng and the others arrived, seeing me struggling to pull the old man out. Lu Yifeng came over first, took a look at the old man's neck, his face turned solemn, shook his head.
My heart skipped a beat, Ah Feng understood that there was no hope for the old man as he shook his head.
But he's not dead yet, and we must hold on to a glimmer of hope.
Cao Yuan was thinking of another problem, he quickly let the old detective block the exit, and he called the police station again to dispatch more police officers, because this murder had just occurred, the murderer might still be in the baozi shop.
We two are no longer involved in Cao Yuan's affairs. We borrowed Cao Yuan's car and took the old man to the hospital together.
Cao Yuan didn't turn on the police car's sirens, probably trying to keep a low profile, but his low-key approach delayed our rescue efforts. Without the flashing lights and sirens, Ah Feng could only frantically honk the horn, trying to get the cars in front of us to give way.
I sat in the front passenger seat and felt a bit better, Panzi and the old man were sitting in the back seat, he stared at this half-dead person and muttered to himself.
This baozi shop is not far from the hospital. After turning a corner, I saw the red cross of the hospital, but then something unexpected happened.
We encountered a red light, and Lu Yifeng was about to take the pedestrian crossing to get ahead when a three-wheeled small truck appeared.
This little car is driving like crazy, and the driver looks quite foolish, but he's still heading straight for us.
He crashed into our rear door, and the impact speed made the whole car shake, and the rear glass was also broken.
I really want to scold him, thinking that this little truck driver is a ruthless devil who hastens people's deaths.
