Chapter 24: The Double Thieves Meet Their End
I pulled Panzi like this, and he suddenly reacted, perhaps because of the pain, his eyebrows furrowed.
I hastened to shout at him a few more times, wanting to make him thoroughly spirited, but unexpectedly this was just an illusion, and he fell asleep again with his head tilted to one side.
The male thief took two more steps forward, but his face was on fire and he couldn't hold on any longer. With a thud, he fell to the ground and smashed his face down hard.
His entire face was pressed against the road, and the fire was extinguished in an instant. Only a few stubborn small flames remained on the edges of his face, which eventually grew weaker and turned into a wisp of blue smoke.
For a moment the danger was lifted, but I didn't feel any relaxation at all. I stared blankly at the male thief, and I don't know if it had been several minutes or tens of minutes. Suddenly I shouted out loud, "Save me, save me" repeating over and over again.
I really don't want to face this scene alone anymore, I want to call Cao Yuan and Lu Yufeng back.
Before long, Cao Yuan led two policemen to rush out of the mountain forest. He saw me standing there like nothing was wrong and shouted, "What's going on?"
I didn't have anything on me, but I pointed at the male thief and muttered a sentence, "The culprit you're looking for is here."
The man's face hit the ground, and Cao Yuan didn't even know he was dead. At first glance, it seemed like he was just lying on the ground.
Cao Yuan beckoned to the two policemen, who rushed over there. One of them even took out his gun and pointed it at the male thief. They surrounded him like a pack of hungry wolves, squatting down beside him. Cao Yuan also took advantage of the opportunity to glance at me, with a hint of blame in his eyes.
I'm not in the mood to say much now, and I can see that these police officers are worthless. When they saw the criminal, they left me hanging and didn't care about what happened to me.
Cao Yuan and the others pinned down the male thief, and together they flipped him over. They really didn't expect the male thief to be this kind of person. When they saw the male thief's face clearly, they all exploded.
The two policemen shouted in unison and jumped back together, Cao Yuan stood up halfway, retreating quickly, but he slipped and fell to the ground with a thud.
I feel a bit evil, seeing them get scared, for a moment I felt very pleased in my heart, thinking let you guys who are worse than me see this, look at your reaction when you encounter such a situation, it's not better than mine.
Cao Yuan was not only disheveled but also had sweat dripping down his forehead, and he panted heavily as he wiped away the sweat.
I had seen it a long time ago, Cao Yuan is a very impulsive person, he can be so afraid now, but instead I find it strange, and feel that there is something else in this.
Cao Yuan took out the intercom again and shouted into it, asking the police to send all available forces over, saying that a major case had occurred here.
He then called two other police officers and told them to withdraw from the mountain forest and wait for reinforcements.
Those two policemen also listened and soon ran out one after another, but I took a look and didn't see Ah Feng's shadow.
Our relationship with the police is very subtle, at most it can be considered a cooperative relationship. I don't have much good feelings towards them, but I care about Ah Feng.
I'm worried that this kid will run into that ghost. I got anxious, grabbed the whip and ran to the edge of the mountain forest, shouting loudly "A Feng, A Feng".
I shouted for five minutes, and my throat was a bit hoarse. Seeing that there was still no movement from Ah Feng, I had to continue walking along the edge of the mountain forest, shouting out loud every now and then.
As I passed through a bush, I heard a rustling sound inside, as if something was there.
I tensed up again, took two steps back, grasped the flail tightly with both hands, and stared fixedly at the bush. I wasn't sure if that white-haired ghost was going to charge out.
But not so pessimistic, Ah Feng crawled out of the bushes. I don't know how far he walked during this period, anyway, he looked quite tired, and his eyes still had a hint of fatigue.
As soon as I saw it was him, I hastily put away the whip and went over to support him, taking him towards the main force.
A Feng didn't have the energy to carefully look into the distance, so he didn't discover the male thief's disgusting corpse. He took a deep breath and said to me, "Those two thieves seemed to have had an internal conflict, the male thief killed the female thief, and even brutally pulled out her teeth, cut off her fingers, and burned her face. I looked for half a day but didn't find the male thief, probably he ran away."
I was momentarily tongue-tied, and after a pause, I pointed to the distance and said, "A Feng, what you just said is only half right. You saw that the female thief died miserably, but do you know? The male thief didn't fare much better either."
Lu Yifeng's body suddenly shook violently, and he didn't even have time to feel tired. He looked in the direction I was pointing, then broke free from me and rushed over with large strides.
I don't want to accompany him, so I just slowly walked back by myself.
Before long, two police vans arrived, and a large group of police officers got out, some of whom were still sleepy-eyed, probably having been forcibly called out from their homes.
I handed the scene over to them and put my energy back on Panzi. I found that it was still not my skill, Lu Yifeng casually poked a few times on Panzi's forehead, and he slowly woke up.
Although Panzi's medicine has worn off and he's back to normal, he still looks a bit weak. I took my tattered jacket and used it as a cushion for him to sit on and rest for a while. During this time, I started chatting with Lu Yifeng about our encounter with the ghost.
I had no secrets from him and told him the whole story in detail, but Lu Yifeng listened with a look of astonishment on his face, clearly disbelieving.
It's not that Lu Yifeng is inexperienced, if someone else were in his shoes and suddenly heard this, they would definitely react the same way.
I thought to myself, anyway the place where I encountered the ghost is not far from the road, and now there are so many police officers here, I'm not afraid to go take another look. So I told Lu Yifeng to bring him to find that spirit money.
I'm sure I didn't remember it wrong, but when we arrived at that place, where was the hell money?
Lu Yufeng gave me another suspicious look, I plucked up the courage to walk around a bit, but still found nothing.
I'm afraid Lu Yifeng thinks I'm fooling him around, so I solemnly swore to him and told him that he must believe me.
Lu Yifeng didn't say anything and turned around to lead me out of the mountain forest.
I thought we had been busy all night and no matter how strange the case was, we should take a break, but Lu Yifeng arranged for us to go to the police station.
Moreover, the corpse of that male thief was also on our carriage, wrapped in a large white cloth. All along the way, I looked at the white cloth and my heart felt stifled. Especially when we encountered bumpy roads, the white cloth would shake, and my whole heart would flutter.
They arrived at the police station, and the forensic doctor was already waiting at the door with someone. Lu Yifeng followed behind the forensic doctor as they rushed upstairs carrying the male corpse on a stretcher.
I didn't know anyone at the police station, so I had to follow Lu Yufeng. We went up to the third floor. Lu Yufeng followed into the morgue without any hesitation.
I and Pan Zi stopped following him, stopping in front of the forensic room door. I could already guess what would happen next inside - it was definitely going to be very bloody, they were going to dissect the male thief's corpse.
At this time, Cao Yuan also rushed back. He saw me and Panzi lingering in front of the forensic room door and hurried over to pull us away, saying "Ordinary people can't enter the forensic room."
He generally refers to the two of us, Panzi and I, as informants. This remark is a bit condescending, but I thank him for thinking that the forensic lab is a tourist attraction. Are Panzi and I going to squeeze in with our full bellies?
There was a small conference room next door, and Panzi and I hid in here to wait for Ahfeng.
I thought the autopsy wouldn't take long, but that night, Lu Yifeng didn't show up either. Panzi and I were so tired that we fell asleep on the table.
The next morning, after 7 o'clock, the two of us were starving. I saw that the forensic lab was still quiet and everyone in the police station was busy, so I said to Panzi, "Let's not bother them, let's go downstairs and have some breakfast first."
Next to the police station, there was a stall selling porridge and buns. We two were like starving ghosts, went and had a big meal. Actually, sometimes filling our stomachs can make a person feel more energetic.
I feel this way now, and I can clearly see a difference in my state before and after eating, and my heart has also become much calmer.
As a rule, undercover agents should try to keep a low profile, especially when dealing with police and police stations. But this is Longzhou, I'm an outsider, so I don't have to be too careful.
The two of us strolled back and forth, even walking in through the main entrance of the police station. As we passed by the security room, I heard the security guard grumbling inside. He said, "Who sent a package so early in the morning? No shipping address, and it's for Du Rui to collect. There's no such person at the police station!"
