Yan Sheng

Yan Sheng was born in 1922

Looking back on those years, the creator of the great cause of the Qin Empire swallowing up the six states, the wise and brilliant First Emperor Zhao Zheng was bewildered by the clever words and eloquent speeches of several fangshi, and was confused about east, west, south, and north, indulging in the dream of eternal life.

Not only did he send a fleet of ships to search for the elixir of immortality in the overseas fairy mountains where the immortals lived, but also recruited many Taoist priests and magicians to refine the golden elixir.

Human fear of death obscured the vision of the First Emperor, but he was not an ordinary person. When he woke up from this beautiful dream and realized that he had been deceived, the First Emperor immediately flew into a rage and issued a decree to burn books and bury scholars, determined to make those who dared to pull out the tiger's whiskers pay a bloody price.

In fact, the true external alchemy is a very profound practice, and it's not as simple as someone giving you a so-called nine-turn golden elixir, which you swallow with your mouth open, regardless of whether the person taking it is a cat or dog, and instantly becoming an immortal.

The practitioners of Waidan Dao, in the long process of burning and refining the Golden Elixir, are not just sitting around with their mouths open, waiting for manna to fall from heaven and bless them into immortality. Instead, they have no choice but to guard the furnace day and night, using their whole heart and mind to comprehend the great principle of transformation and ascension of various substances within the furnace, thereby gaining insight into the workings of the ultimate truth of Heaven and Earth.

Only in this way, when the golden elixir is refined nine times and becomes mature, the alchemist's moral character and enlightenment will be matched with the golden elixir, even if they have not reached the state of unity between heaven and man. If at this time, one takes the just-refined golden elixir in accordance with the momentum, the cultivator's mental state is sufficient to control the violently rising medicinal power like an unbridled wild horse, and the achievement of external alchemy will also be a matter of course, not worth feeling surprised, this is where the true essence of the external alchemy cultivation lies.

If the spiritual cultivation of the Golden Elixir practitioner is insufficient to control the violently increased magical power, swallowing a genuine Golden Elixir will have an effect no different from swallowing a small nuclear bomb.

It's really come to this, and I'm afraid there's no hope of achieving immortality. Trying to make a quick escape by kicking my legs and rising to heaven is basically an impossible outcome.

Since the principles of Waidan are so complex and profound, they are by no means a shortcut that ordinary people can easily take advantage of. Therefore, all those who claim that taking one golden elixir pill can achieve this or that, let's just say there is one such person, they are all charlatans.

Black dogs steal food, white dogs ward off disasters. Those who have been mixing in the prosperous world of Xianyang for many years and are infinitely glorious, the Fangshi, rely on relying on big customers to start a business. Even if they were bitten back by the regretful master, it can only be said that they got what was coming to them and are not worthy of sympathy. The key is that those Waidan Fangshi who have nothing to do with this matter, at this time, they also suffered with their swindling colleagues, such an unbearable situation is so unjust!

The strange and wonderful experiences of these innocent people can't help but make one sigh at the unpredictability of fate. This is truly a case of "calamity coming from the heavens"!

Fortunately, the Fang Shi were all clever people with brains, they lamented their bad luck on one hand and quickly packed their bags to prepare for escape on the other. Those who stupidly stuck out their necks to be chopped off by others were not worthy of being in this circle.

Later, in order to avoid the strong counterattack from the imperial court, many Fangshi fled to the southwestern Yi area where the imperial power was the weakest.

Finally, the fierce wind of severe punishment has passed, and even the First Emperor who failed to achieve his dream of longevity has died. These lucky Taoist priests who escaped with their lives began to reflect on their past experiences, thinking about how to change their ways, at least they couldn't let another innocent person be wrongly accused again. Smart people won't fall into the same trap twice. So, they combined and referenced the cultivation methods of various schools from the pre-Qin era, including Taoism, Yin-yang school, miscellaneous schools, as well as folk Taoist practices such as Fangxian Dao, Huangji Dao, Jiaogui Dao, witchcraft, etc.

Later on, by sorting out the theories and techniques of different schools of thought, they recreated a new religion. From then on, these Fangshi called themselves Daoists.

Qigong practitioners are the ancient heritage of alchemy, which rose from the mainstream external elixir to the internal elixir. However, as time passed, qigong practitioners also could not avoid the fate of prosperity and decline, and walked towards decline in the long years of wind and dust.

At first, Yu Jingxuan was sealed in the stone platform by Ling Xuzi before, and the cultivators in this piece of land were still in a very active stage. It can be imagined that with their abilities, not to mention small monsters that are not in the mainstream, even if a thousand-year-old monster comes out for a stroll, they will have to be careful when encountering a cultivator, so Jingxuan is not adapted to the current situation of Huo Mountain where the demon flames are raging. Lin Xuan strictly forbids her from going out casually and only allows her to move within the range of the mountain god temple. Soon, this lively and energetic little jade spirit becomes bored, and she begins to think of ways to find fun for herself.

"Hey, I've told you many times already, don't mess with the offerings."

Lin Xu helplessly looked at Yu Jingxuan, putting down the book in his hand to persuade her, hoping that she could learn to be more obedient and not be as lively as a hyperactive child.

"You don't like eating fruit anyway, so someone else will take care of it for you!"

Yu Jingxuan, who looked like an over-aged loli from the outside, was now holding a large snow peach that she had taken from the offering table in the main hall. She was gnawing on it with her hands full, completely ignoring Lin Xu sitting next to her, whose forehead veins were bulging out in an "well" shape.

From the knowledge imparted by his predecessor, Mount Hua's God, Lin Xu became aware of the existence of the so-called Five Iron Laws in the divine path. These rules are as follows: First, unless invited, one must not appear before mortals. Second, one must not leave their post without reason. Third, if summoned by a symbol or edict, one must respond and go forth. Fourth, private fighting between gods is strictly prohibited. Fifth, those who enforce the law are not allowed to bend the rules for personal gain.

Where there is a cause, there must be an effect; where there is an effect, there must be a cause. Since there are explicit prohibitions, it means that violations must exist, and these rules also have room for flexible changes.

If we analyze these clauses from Lin Xu's perspective as an outsider, the loopholes are so huge that he doesn't need to take risks and violate regulations directly. He can easily get a super-loaded coal truck with a load of over 40 tons through.

Although, the rules still make sense. Think about it, if a god frequently appears in front of his own believers, at first it would be an exciting and astonishing miracle, but after a long time, it's inevitable that the believers will feel aesthetic fatigue, and even give rise to negative thoughts that the gods are nothing special. In view of this, these seemingly useless clichés still have practical significance, and Lin Xu didn't plan to deliberately break them.

Lin Xu never moved the offerings, out of the idea that he didn't want to make mortals feel his presence. He had many ways to satisfy his desires, and didn't need to take advantage of this small convenience.

If the devotees who come to burn incense and worship at the mountain temple every day find that there are fewer offerings on the altar, they probably think it's not the gods coming to enjoy them, but suspect that there is some kind of evil spirit haunting around.

The hierarchy of the Shinto is very strict, and even the two high-ranking generals, Wang Liang and Zhang Xin, always address Lin Xu as "Old Master" in his presence, never daring to make a joke with him. When interacting with him, they are always formal and courteous. In the entire Mountain God Temple, except for Lin Xu, the two highest-ranking generals behave so cautiously, let alone others.

Now that things have developed to this point, Lin Xu finally understood why the ancient kings all claimed to be lonely and few. The wind comes from an empty cave, not necessarily without sound!

The so-called widowed and orphaned, simply from the literal meaning of the words, "widow" refers to an old man without a wife, "widower" refers to an old woman without a husband, a young person without a father is called "orphan", and an old person without children is called "lonely". These terms with special implications all refer to certain people's incomplete lives.

It's probably because the emperors also felt the chill of being in a high place, so they deliberately called themselves that to express their regret at not being able to communicate equally with others. It was precisely this reason that Yu Jingxuan didn't differentiate between old and young, and Lin Xu saw it with his own eyes, feeling annoyed but also slightly relieved. Otherwise, why would he always raise the board high and bring it down lightly when teaching Jingxuan a lesson, never punishing her severely?

Glaring at Xiaoyu Jing with discontent, Lin Xu sighed and said:

"Let's make a deal. You stop sneaking food, and next time when we replace the offerings, I'll give you all the replaced ones to eat. How about that?"

Her mouth was stuffed with fruit pulp, Yuqi stretched out her left thumb and said in a muffled voice:

  "Pull the hook!"

It wasn't easy to get Yuqi to give up her habit of pulling pranks, and Lin Xu had just made amends with Little Loli. Just as they were about to step out for a stroll, a sudden whooshing sound came from above their heads, followed by the cooing of pigeons.

  "Cuckoo! Cuckoo!"

A pigeon with a body as white as snow, flew into the hall, circled around and finally landed on Lin Xu's open palm. Then, with a "bang" sound, the originally lively pigeon transformed into a paper folded pigeon in a wisp of smoke.

Lin Xudong unfolded the paper crane with a flick of his wrist and took a closer look at the note, which only had one line of small writing on it:

"My foolish brother has a guest visiting, hoping to meet with you, come quickly."

This method of communication through flying pigeons was pre-arranged by Lin Xu with Huang Shiren, the landowner of Jiangjia Village. He carefully examined it and confirmed that the handwriting was from this landowner himself.

At once, Lin Xu ordered his subordinates with a single voice not to disturb him and turned around to enter the inner hall of the Mountain God Temple, where he sat cross-legged. Lin Xu attached his divine consciousness to an external body that was collecting military souls near Jiangjia Village. After completing the attachment, Lin Xu immediately set off for the Land Temple, but as soon as he arrived near the Land Temple, he noticed a new change here.

Although the effectiveness of jointly promoting the oath with Huang Shiren is not yet significant, ordinary people feel unfamiliar with this kind of divine credit as a guarantee method, but for Huang Shiren, who has been struggling for a long time, his living conditions have greatly improved.

The Landlord God impatiently transformed into a kind-hearted outsider, using the name of repaying gods and fulfilling wishes to lavish money and grain on repair projects.

The Jiangjiaji Temple has undergone renovation and expansion, with the physical building increasing to a two-story courtyard, covering an area of over 10 rooms.

At this scene, Lin Xu was slightly stunned, and then he choked with laughter, shaking his head as he walked into the land temple. If seen through an outsider's eyes, this Lin Xu, holding a ghost-painted banner, transformed in the blink of an eye, entering the forbidden area, like a wisp of water vapor dissipating into thin air.

"Oh, I haven't asked yet, what is your honorable name?"

In the main hall of Jiangjiaji Land Temple, opposite to the Earth God Huang Shiren, a middle-aged man with a black robe and whiskers was sitting calmly. He wore a Taoist outfit, had a sword at his waist, and his face showed signs of wind and frost. When Lin Xu's incarnation appeared, both men stood up to greet him. After exchanging greetings, Lin Xu felt that this stranger he had never met before emitted an aura of sharpness all over his body, especially his eyes, which shone like a sword out of its scabbard, making Lin Xu ask this question.

At this sight, Huang Shiran, the landlord, smiled and said:

"Oh, and let me introduce you to these two. This is Yan Chixia, the Daoist from Guanzhong who has come from afar. And this is my brother, Huo Shan Shenlin Weiming."
