Chapter 9: Ambushing the Bear
After half a moment, the bear's roar had sounded, but no footsteps or anything were heard.
Yang Zilu suddenly became enlightened, and a bone rolled over, looking around, without finding any trace of the bear. Yang Zilu couldn't help but let out a long sigh of relief, and wondered what kind of bear it was that could roar so fiercely. Suddenly, another wild beast-like cry was heard, but it was unclear what kind of wild beast it was.
Yang Zilu heard this voice and immediately thought of a story. Two tigers fighting!
He glanced at the wild rabbit hanging from the axe handle, estimated that after skinning and removing its internal organs, adding bones, it would weigh no more than one and a half catties, or even just one catty. But what about tomorrow, and the day after? Yang Zilu gritted his teeth and muttered: "It's definitely going to be a fight to the death, either both of us will die or one of us will get hurt! Ancient times were really tmd difficult to survive in, you had to fight for every piece of meat!"
Although complaining, Yang Zilu didn't hesitate, hanging the wild rabbit on a nearby low tree branch. After thinking for a moment, he picked up several angular stones from the ground, about the size of his fist, and took out the hemp cloth bag that originally held soap nuts, pouring them out and refilling it with stones, which he then hung at his waist.
Yang Zilu then bent down and slowly walked in the direction where the voice came from.
Although he heard the sound, the distance was not close, Yang Zilu estimated that it was about thirty meters away. Especially in the densely wooded Mother Pig Mountain, if this bear hadn't roared, neither Yang Zilu nor the bear would have known they had passed each other by.
Slowly approaching, Yang Zilu was originally prepared to climb the tree, but after climbing a little, the tree didn't go up, and it shook violently, making rustling sounds. Yang Zilu hastily stopped her actions, slowly got down from the tree, and changed to walking on the ground, lest she startled these two fierce beasts. Who knows whether they would choose to jointly confront Yang Zilu, this human, because of a third party's intervention, or choose to retreat from battle.
Neither of which was what Yang Zilu wanted to see.
Yang Zilu changed his posture to a crawl, imitating the military's stealthy advance in the movie, slowly moving forward. Slowly Yang Zilu arrived at the edge of the grass thicket, where there was a small clearing, a patch of sandy and rocky terrain with sparse, half-withered wild grasses growing here and there.
But when Yang Zilu's eyes shrunk to the bear, Yang Zilu was really shocked. He suspected that he had seen Xiang Yu. There was a wild man with a height of only 1.6 meters, or even 1.59 meters (not enough?). He wore a simple beast skin long gown, which had a few ancient Greek costumes, but others used white thin gauze to make the long gown, and he used a black beast skin to make the long gown. In his hand was a large wooden stick, with sharp stone pieces and wooden thorns at one end. His slightly dark body was full of solid muscles, and because of the fighting, the blue veins were all exposed. Wasn't there even a low growl like a wild beast?
His opponent, on the other hand, was a black bear standing up, about 1.75 meters tall and weighing at least 250 pounds. One of its paws danced in the air, with a surface area larger than Yang Zilu's two palms combined. Its arm was thicker than Yang Zilu's thigh by several circles.
However, when the fight started, the savage was not much better than the dog bear. A wooden stick swept across the dog bear's body, and the dog bear couldn't help but let out a mournful howl, retreating two steps, its thick black fur dancing wildly in mid-air. If it weren't for the thickness of its fur, it would have probably lost a chunk of flesh. Yang Zilu watched with his eyes wide with amazement.
However, the wild man is also full of danger, making Yang Zilu feel like he is extremely restricted.
Yang Zilu couldn't help but glance around, and suddenly found that not far away, a savage girl was lying on the ground, motionless, and it was unknown whether she had fainted or died. However, although she was called a savage, the girl was not ugly at all, her skin was a healthy wheat color, and her long black hair was scattered on the ground, vaguely showing her delicate profile. She's actually a little beauty! Yang Zilu couldn't help but sigh. No wonder that wild man, who was comparable to a beast, had gone to protect her with his life, despite being tied up!
The dog bear suddenly let out a slightly excited roar, and Yang Zilu's attention returned to the battlefield. The big wooden stick in the wild man's hand had been knocked flying at some unknown time, and it was unclear where it had gone. The situation changed, but although the wild man was short in stature, his movements were extremely agile. He pulled out a black stone dagger from his waist, estimated to be made of obsidian, with a very smooth surface. Holding the dagger, he dodged and weaved around the dog bear.
But clearly at a disadvantage, he was often hit by the dog bear's broad palm, and two or three blood-red claw marks flowed down his body. But the wild man still stirred up his spirit, roaring continuously, not just using his dagger, but also his fists and feet. However, the dog bear's skin was thick and tough, so the dagger only had a little effect on him.
The dog bear suddenly left the battlefield and rushed towards the wild girl who didn't know whether she was dead or alive. The beast-like wild man let out a furious roar, either in anger or anxiety, and charged forward to engage in close combat with the black bear. In an instant, he was knocked to the ground by the dog bear, his right hand pinned under the dog bear's paw, while his left hand desperately pressed against the black bear's lower jaw, preventing it from biting down.
Yang Zilu saw the situation and knew it was his best chance, taking a swift step forward like an arrow shooting out of its bowstring. Yang Zilu himself didn't know why he was so fast, the axe in his hand slashing upwards from below, leaving behind a faint green afterimage.
"Whoosh!" Yang Zilu only felt the axe in his hand pause for a moment, then continue forward slightly before coming to a stop. The force of the rebound made Yang Zilu's arm feel numb and weak, but upon closer inspection, he saw that the axe had cleaved into the black bear's mouth and continued all the way to the back of its brain, where it was stuck in the bone, unable to move any further. This dog bear was already doomed to die.
However, the black bear was not dead yet. Before dying, it slapped a wild man with one hand and knocked him onto Yang Zilu's body. Yang Zilu and the wild man rolled together for several rounds before they finally came to a stop. The dog bear's vitality was very worthy of its massive body shape. Yang Zilu suspected that this black dog bear might be born by his mother and a cockroach, otherwise, how could it have such strong vitality.
The black bear took a few steps forward, and with one swipe of its paw, it knocked down a tree trunk as thick as a bowl, which then crashed to the ground, kicking up a ring of dust.
"My grass, this hunter's job is really not for humans, no way! Got to pull someone in, these crossbow arrows need anesthesia, otherwise one person sees this big guy, either runs away or becomes his food, too fierce!" Yang Zilu cursed and slowly got up, only feeling that all the bones in his body were aching. Thinking of himself as a meat pad for that wild man, Yang Zilu could only secretly call out "bad luck".
However, Yang Zilu glanced back at the wild man with one eye, and he felt that his meat pad wasn't too unlucky after all. The wild man's left hand was bloody and blurry, seemingly fractured as well. But thinking about it, those dying bears would also counterattack with 120% of their combat strength.
